My interpretation of "Why wait for the best when I could have you?" is that she knows there's better men out there, but she's used to what she has with him, so she'll stay in the relationship but is aware that she's settling. NFR perfectly explains a toxic relationship I was in and this line really hits home.
I think for a woman it's SO easy to understand Lana's lyrics. From the very first time I heard the song Norman F****** Rockwell, I fully understood every word she sang. Not only that, but she put into words things I've experienced with ex boyfriends that I couldn't articulate that well. That's why I love Lana, she's a genius when it comes to expressing emotions.
@@holylemon1242 That build-up to 'Blue Banisters' era, when she was messing with us and just releasing the same pic from a 'Chemtrails' photo shoot, only each one slightly altered using iPhone filters/picsart...that was some wild times full of speculation among the stans, lol.
Barrender is about hiding from the fame and keep her life normal. The last Song touches a lot of themes. Butterflies only comes to you if youre calm down. That means that if you obsevsibly try to reach happiness the butterflie Will go away. She Also talks about how shes capable of understanding the pain of a psicopath and having empathy with It. Sorry for my english
I listened to this album every single day going into work and coming home. It quite literally defined all of 2019 for me, and it's probably my favorite album of all time.
Listening to NFR (the song) as a woman really just illustrates what a relationship with men is like. “you talk to the walls when the party gets bored of you” to me, references the way men will fill a space and talk whether they’re wanted or not. The assumption that a man’s opinion is warranted and important even when no one wants to listen to it. i’ve met a lot of men who would talk to the walls if no one else listened. “head in your hands as you paint me blue” makes me think of the way men will hurt women and then somehow seek sympathy for the consequences of those actions. They’ll hurt us, and then seek sympathy when we withhold affection or try to leave. “you’re just a man, it’s just what you do” - is the simplest, most complex lyric i’ve ever heard. it’s just what they do, and as women, we have to pick and choose our battles often. we enter into relationships with the mindset of “it’s just what you do” and let certain things slide, even if they were harmful or disrespectful. I think the song really exemplifies the way women will settle for a man because of the knowledge that they might not find better. “why wait for the best when I could have you?” - a lot of the times it can be easier to settle for “okay” instead of waiting around forever for a truly good man to come around. She takes his slights and disrespect because she knows she’d have to wait a lifetime to find a man who truly treats her right. It’s a commentary on men’s behavior and actions within relationships, and the way that women have to navigate love based on those repeated, cyclical actions of men
bartender is more so about trying to hide from the limelight by buying a truck late at night and knowing this will guarantee her an “escape” from it until people find out. i think the bartender aspect is her venting to him, like a drunk person would typically do, except she’s not drunk and not wanting drinks. the bartender may not know she’s famous either, so there’s comfort in that for her. there could very well be a relationship with him afterwards, im not sure tho😅 music video wise .. i think the space ships and explosions in the back symbolize destruction and war that is happening all around, yet they don’t care and are still having fun. possibly referencing the political climate in the world and how we go about our days even when things aren’t happy and bright in other places. this is how i interpreted bartender but i could 100% be wrong😭 bartender is definitely one of my favorites off of norman :)
In the song Norman Fucking Rockwell, Lana acknowledges the fact that he is a man child, narcissistic and immature but that’s just the way he is and she says it herself “well I can’t change that”. She points all his flaws but at the end of the day she still likes him: “but I don’t get bored I just see you through”; “why wait for the best when I could have you”;
The album of this literally saved me from being depressed after a horrible breakup with my backstabbing, manipulative ex!!! NFR and Melodrama by Lorde are my f*cking god tier albums.
For the last song, in the video she's upset when she's on the phone talking to the guy but cheers up when her friends are around. And you mention they caught the butterfly, but she did it with her friends and not man the song is talking about. She found the happiness with her friends and it's not fleeting
Bartender is escaping paparazzi im pretty sure hence the lyrics "cause they dont yet know where i reside" "i bought me a truck in the middle of the night it'll buy me a year if i play my cards right" the part "Bar t t tender" the t sounds she makes can replicate the sounds of cameras clicking, atleast thats what i picked up
In my opinion the MV is just meant to be whimsical and open to interpretation. I think the spaceships are just a symbol for chaos and turmoil that can happen around you but when you’re “in love” or “crushing” all that doesn’t matter. You’re just enjoying riding with your girls, wind in your hair, and being free. But also she did say she bought a truck to not be tracked by the paparazzi. I believe at this time she was dating a cop. Thanks for the video!
every song on this album is really great. i would just suggest to listen them in order tho (with lyrics). it'll help you understand the songs and the narrative better. her best album along with honeymoon!!
But also witnessing the release of this whole project when it happened as fans it was like a culmination of so much Lana and started with Venice Bitch to Butterfly. It’s just so beautiful. I’m so high.
OMGGGGGGG I LITERALLY SCREAMED. Also this has 3 songs in it. She combined the MV. Also this MV was so random and distracting. So I mean It would be great if you read the lyrics on your own.
So in order to understand this music video you have to listen to the whole album first. It will all make sense if you listen to the whole thing. It’s a journey.
i want you to listen rest of the songs in NFR album, Mariners apartment complex and Venice bxxxx is really amazing. If you like about story telling, i want you to react 'how to disappear'. AND ASLO GREATEST IS THE GREATEST. i like to watch your reaction videos, I also want to request for Lust for life and more Single or albums of lana.
Not my intention to make this sound mean in any way but happen to your face😞 just curious? I joined not too long ago and I love all your reactions of Lana. ❤
Haha no worries, I fainted a few weeks back and hit a window sill on my way down. So that bashed up my face pretty good. Glad to hear you enjoy the videos :)
this mv actually contains 3 songs
- norman fucking rockwell
- bartender
- happiness is a butterfly

yesss and her repeating that he makes her blue, but still stays
exactly, she is settling with him even tho He is clearly not the best option for her to be.
I think it’s just sarcasm lol tbh
@@coryb7404 I think so too
100% agree Emma

Womans and Gays
You have no idea how much this album saved me in 2019 & I got to see her live for that tour. 😭 Protect Lana at all costs. ❤️
It saved me too ❤
"if he's a serial killer then what's the worse that could happen to a girl who's already hurt" hits me everytime, I felt that way. The best 2019 album
The fact that Lana edited this music video all by herself which is AMAZING!!!
She also edit her single/album cover with picsart

the explosions make more sense when you know this song comes after the greatest
The fact that I fully understand and feel every word she is singing in NFR scares me...

Lana saved my life 💗 I love your reactions to her music vids! Please do more !
The album of this literally saved me from being depressed after a horrible breakup with my backstabbing, manipulative ex!!! NFR and Melodrama by Lorde are my f*cking god tier albums.
Literally my top two albums of all timeee
And were produced both by Jack Antonoff.
For the last song, in the video she's upset when she's on the phone talking to the guy but cheers up when her friends are around. And you mention they caught the butterfly, but she did it with her friends and not man the song is talking about. She found the happiness with her friends and it's not fleeting
“Why why for the best when I could have you?” It’s an ironic quote pointing directly to the irony on some Norman paintings
Like in the album cover
The happy foreground is an inversion of what’s horrible happening on the background. Its genius!
Bartender is escaping paparazzi im pretty sure hence the lyrics "cause they dont yet know where i reside" "i bought me a truck in the middle of the night it'll buy me a year if i play my cards right" the part "Bar t t tender" the t sounds she makes can replicate the sounds of cameras clicking, atleast thats what i picked up
Agree 100%
She has quite a few songs with the paparazzi- 13 beaches and High on the Beach are others
Happiness is a Butterly is so beautiful. Best of the best of Lana’s work in every way
“Why wait for the best when I can have you” she’s being sarcastic Lol that’s all

I was wondering, Why lana puts those 3 songs together on this MV, But i realised that it's all connected. It's all a one history
Finally, some Lana!
every song on this album is really great. i would just suggest to listen them in order tho (with lyrics). it'll help you understand the songs and the narrative better. her best album along with honeymoon!!

I believe her sister Chuck records alot of her videos
This MV was so random and distracting I'd suggest you to listen to album in order with lyrics video or something. And Music videos maybe later.
I know she's dated several officers, so maybe that's why she chose it for the video.
