  • We are used to seeing our dogs panting, but panting in cats is not common. If your cat is breathing fast is indeed a cause for concern in many situations.
Today, our veterinarian from The Vetic Pet Clinic is talking about when panting in cats is an emergency situation.
If you have been playing with your cat non-stop for 30-minutes and now they are a little breathless, that’s expected. Just switch the AC and fan on, give them cool water to drink and they should be fine.
In situations where cats begin to breathe with their mouths open suddenly, it can be a sign of one or more serious diseases.
Check for the following red flags:
    - Pale or blue gums
    - Noisy or raspy breathing
    - Loss of appetite
    - Lethargy and hiding
    - Excessive drooling
    - Visibly blocked nostrils
    - Head held up during breathing
Open-mouthed breathing in cats can mean an upper respiratory tract infection, such as calicivirus or herpesvirus (rhinotracheitis), heart condition, heatstroke, heartworm and an allergy attack or asthma.
Your pet’s health is crucial. You should visit the veterinarian whenever you see your cat panting without any discernible cause.
