Which character do you miss the MOST from past games?

    • @christophermoran6926
      @christophermoran6926 Год назад +5

Strangely enough, Mister Resetti. If he does his old shtick again, you should randomly walk a few feet out your home and you fall through an invisible pitfall I to a chair and he's just waiting there, ready to yell at you for reseting the game (again) or even time travel. Though, I understand that he may never get the job again, due to emotional reasons and a lack of a reset button, nowadays, He could still be viscous about. First could just be a letter of warning and then the pitfall...
My bad, I got carried away... Still, Resetti.

I hate the lack of things to do lol personally I really loved in New Leaf the minigames you could play via the Nintendo products in the fortune cookies from the Nook store. The different systems had different minigames you could play if you set them as furniture in your home. You even got special items if you got far in the games, like wallpaper and flooring. There were several times where I loaded up New Leaf just to play the minigames. Island Escape was so fun and your different villagers had different stats which helped you in the game. I think the minigames added a lot to New Leaf and gave another layer of depth

A weird gripe I have is the island setting. It felt like they never did enough with it and alot of changes made to fit the image better were for the worse imo. Like, there are Convenience Stores and Supermarkets and even Home Centres in Beachside towns irl, so why do we only have a small general store and coastal Emporium for stores? Also plenty of Police Stations and Post Offices, and especially cafes that aren't just apart of Museums. I love the theme of an island / beach town, but I really hope next game sees us return to a mainland town
Also it's a shame constellations never returned, and it would have been nice to let some of Harv's merchants move into your town with fully decked-out buildings imo

TBH, I would have rather that some of the events welcoming characters who never made it were like the Blathers/ Abel sisters/ early villager events, where you gathered materials to establish say a post office, a boutique, etc. But I can also see why that would eat up space on the island.

My issue with the villagers is the limited types of personalities vs the amount of villagers you can have on the island: 8 personality types but you can have 10 living on the island? It just means you’re going to have 2 duplicates, and that means you’ll get worn out of the character much more quickly. We need more types, like a brainiac, an energetic, a pessimist, and a random (a villager who changes personalities throughout the week, to make things more interesting).

  • @ghostreyn

One thing that I have ONLY SEEN in Pocket Camp is having items turn to a forty-five degree angle and interact with them. That, alone, would make all furniture and items feel SO much better to use and more enjoyable.
The other thing I hate is that, you literally have the biggest house on the island and only one islander can and will enter, one at a time. Or even still, if you have guests over, they won't come over at all, I think...
Last one (hopefully) is in its DLC, Happy Home Paradise. The islanders vacationing there should be able to visit other resort homes as well, without the use of Amiibo Cards and figures, if you have them.
    Just my opinions, is all.

I mean I'm fine with the nicer "mean" villagers as long as Skye doesn't keep repeating every Thursday that she hates it because she had P.E. or her friends piano recital.

I don't like that I can't reject items and recipes from villagers, if I already have a recipe, I want to be able to say 'no' to receiving it, I know it's done so you can share items/recipes with other players but I'd just like the option. Especially if I've done all my chores for the day and some the villager hunts me down just to give me an item I already have so I have to go back to nooks to sell it.
I have a very specific routine on AC, and it just gets in the way sometimes.

  • @john_evo
    @john_evo Год назад +5

One thing that I never see mentioned is how small the island is. ACNH maps seem like 42 acres at first, but almost half of them are beach acres. There are actually only 20 acres of land, making ACNH towns smaller than ACGC and ACCF. Towns should be bigger and allow for more villagers like the GameCube game! Maybe then we’d have room for more buildings like the post office and police station.

    • @CrossingChannel
      @CrossingChannel  Год назад +1

To be honest I’m okay with this. I think a lot of people struggled to fill space anyways, and it’s not like it’s smaller than New Leaf. Back in the old games, decoration was limited so having more to explore made sense, but I think they honestly nailed the island size for this game. Less beach areas would be good though imo, I like how it was in the older games before NL.

I wish that there was no limit on how many villagers you could have living on your island. Imagine a packed city island with 100 unique villager homes on it! I suppose that the game would likely struggle with that many NPCs wandering around the screen but 10 just isn't enough.

Also non-Interactive Items was a huge disappointment for me when I first played. I booted up the game and bought a lifeguard chair thinking the villagers could take shifts as lifeguards or something and.... nothing. They had several opportunities to make these villagers feel more like real people (thankfully they removed the needless tutorial dialogue when villagers have known you for several weeks so Audie having moved in last year in New Leaf would have still been saying "Wanna know how to switch tools on the fly?" Or "Shake every tree you can!")
For all the crap this game gets I feel like it's a lot less handhold-y than New Leaf was.
Another thing I really don't like is those infernal ordinances mixed with unbreakable flowers! For what SHOULD have a far better system than new Leaf, NEVER use the beautiful town ordinance. All it does is make every single village plant flowers where you don't want them. I do understand you can put paths where you don't want your villagers planting but it's too much of a hassle to terraform your entire island till you get it just right, all while your villagers are dopely putting down flowers you can't even dig up.

As much as I love NH, the thing I want most is for the villagers to feel more "alive" and unique. I agree with the dialogue and interacting with items more. But I'd like to see certain personality types interact with different things. Like, jocks would play with a ball or sport equipment more and a lazy character would interact with chairs/benches more. Simple stuff like that that makes the villagers feel more in line with what their personality is supposed to be would be cool.

  • @dashcamandy2242
    @dashcamandy2242 Год назад +4

    Things I hate about ACNH:
    Can't put bridges/walkways over land
Can't have a regular conversation with villager if a "missing item" is in inventory and the owner hasn't been identified
Crappy selection of goods at Nook's Cranny
    Nook's Cranny never expanding
    Villager houses never expanding
Having to pay Cyrus to customize things in every variety in order to "learn" how to customize things in every variety
Tortimer being reduced to what is mostly a storage-access GUI with personality
Lack of volume adjustments for in-game music, SFX, etc.
Missing: Pelly, Phyllis, Pete, who could have worked IN CONJUNCTION with DAL (Orville is so busy banging on his keyboard all the time, sweating profusely, he could really benefit from having someone take over the postal duties!)
No villager interaction with items (jock-types should be interested in athletic items, lazy-types should be drawn to seats/beds, peppy-types should prefer more "playful" items, etc.)
Online features are mostly-wasted game assets, I have few IRL friends - none of which play the game - and I don't do the social media thing anymore. I doubt I will ever get every fruit.
"Last Major Release" actually meant "No More Releases, Not Even A 2023 New Years' Arch"
I still love the game more than I hate it. 🤣

    "Bob's Gang"
    my response to this vid:
Lost Charm/Missing Characters (I feel is pretty much the same topic): Yeah I miss the characters, but I would prefer something, anything to do (such as more items to collect to begin with) than a developer that spends all their efforts on vanity than practical use.
Villager Dialogue: Totally agree, could have copy pasted text from previous games and added to it, it wouldn't have added a lot more in terms of disc space to do either.
Bulk Crafting: Completely agree, when you've crafted so many of the fishing bait, you should be able to unlock a x10, x50 etc based on your progress which would have been tracked by nook miles easily. It's just a really cheap developer bulk out of game play!
Interactive Items: Yep, complained about this too, we spend ages decorating our island, we have phones, it wouldn't be too hard to code villagers to "hang out" outside from a friend phone app and have them follow and interact with objects, following again if the player moved too far away.
Online play: Totally miss doing stuff with friends, only time you can have mini games with friends is either building them yourself, or tourney days which happen 4 times a year (and even then if you have more than one player the bug/fish spawns are reduced!)
Sad you missed my complaint about incomplete furniture sets, tons of missing furniture, how dressers could have been a separate and more welcome function than wardrobes (essentially functioning like a shed for quick storage which you cannot do with the current house storage other than deposit one item at a time)

Less what I hate vs what I would desperately love to see implemented:
Bulk crafting and purchases (obviously) at LEAST for things like fish bait or wrapping paper etc
Play modes around time- people who don’t want to wait around when they’re terraforming but don’t like time travel could have x2 or x4 speed game time maybe? But people like myself that play sporadically and have limits on available hours could have a completely different sort of mode that’s still 24 hour days, but when you log back in, it’s the time and day you finished last, or maybe it forwards 8hrs as though you’ve slept, which could double as a fast forward for other players? Then I wouldn’t miss out on as many seasonal exclusives because I happened to be extra busy or fixated on another game or hobby for days-months.
Third person camera mode- I want to see my island from the back, and what my designing would look like in person. (Plus I keep going to use the right stick after playing other games and getting annoyed).
Ways to get every variation (or at least every fruit, which is a nook miles achievement) without friends that play or strangers on nookazon. By all means make it fun to play with friends, but don’t short change people who don’t have friends that like AC.
Bring back all the fruits/perfect fruit.
    Interactive pets (random out-there wish).
A random recipe exchange you can participate in once a day- equivalent to Pokémon random exchange and would make it a lot less frustrating to complete your recipe catalogue late game.

God the internet/traveling in this game is such a pain: "Hey! Wanna travel?...Btw you have a mile ticket. Ok where do you wanna go? Ok, you sure you got everything with you? Ok, *loading* Ok, your flight is ready. Hop on board." --- like oh my god it takes ages, i hate it with a passion. And online with multiple people it is just a warcrime.
Also the bulk crafting is really missing. Crafting bait is horrible for example.
Also i loved all the previous Animal Crossing games BECAUSE OF THE ANIMALS.
Now they are empty shells, just decorativ stuff to collect. They are so boring to talk to, i have no emotional connection to them whatsoever. I loved in previous games how you would learn that the cranky villagers actually just need to warm up with you, then are really caring and loveable.
I think they tried too hard on making them cutsie wootsi, completely ignoring personalities. I wish they had more personality, not only for a category like sleepy, cranky, big sister etc but like i want to see why Stitches is different to Pekoe, that Admiral really likes nature and Kabuki just LOVES coffee. (or whatever they would have made up for them)
I also miss that in older games, villagers could be mean, would be angry at you, another villager, at the town tune etc. Give me the tea, give me the drama, make it worth talking to them, get to know them, do tasks for them!
I just really didn't realise how sad i am about the absolute boring villagers before i typed that in lol

    - Bulk Crafting

Another thing similar to the complaints about Online is villager hunting with the same dialogue each time. Honestly there is 2 things that I think ACNH could have done/Does annoy me.
    1. I miss having all the stores to go to. Like I get your Turing a deserted island into a home for you and your villagers so you wouldn't have many shops. But then why have Leif and Kicks just pop up every once in a while? Just give them a shop (especially now that there's crops for cooking)
2.have a bit more to do for multi player. Both residents and vistor co-op doesn't have to much to actually do besides showing off stuff to each other. Even when you play with 2 people from the same island it can get pretty annoying bc only 1 person can play normally at a time.

This is why I was sad when I heard New Horizons won't be receiving new updates, but they'll update other games, no problem. New Horizons seems empty after you're "done" with the main game in the beginning. Bulk crafting could have been introduced after the beginning, such as after you upgraded buildings and such, and then we could have gotten that option for an upgrade to crafting. I definitely agree that acnh had so much potential to add more before they started to take away things from us, which again made no sense.
I just hope this doesn't make people steer away from the game if there is another game in the future.

Now, Tortimer is just a talking storage shed :/
But at least he's still around. I agree it's sad how many characters have disappeared and been replaced by items and such.
The thing I hate the most is having to fly back home and doing the entire dialogue all over again every time you go villager hunting. I've had hunts that took 500+ tickets to find the villager I wanted and IT. IS. PAIN.
Just let the pilot say something like "I see you have more NMTs, would you like to visit another island?" but nope.
And with so many different island themes and customization being such a big deal, I was really surprised and heavily disappointed that the 2.0 update didn't let us customize our RS and airport. Especially since this WAS a feature in New Leaf!! But they didn't bring it back for some reason. Even if they would've just let us paint our airport in one of the other already existing colors that would've been great, but not even that much.

You can only have 10 on your island but there are over 300 villagers so why can't you go to Isabelle tell her you think a specific villager should go on vacation or something and in 3 days they will leave. 1st day is when you told Isabelle you want a villager to go on vacation, 2nd day they are packing up and 3rd day they are gone and then you can get a nook miles ticket and go villager hunting again

New Horizons is still my favorite aside from City Folk because of how easy it is to do things. I'm autistic and for me personally, I get overwhelmed with the lack of quality of life things in older games (how frustrating it can be to fish in some games, a lot of the placing of projects in New Leaf, etc.) However, despite it being my favorite, I struggle to play it much anymore since there aren't any new updates. Not that I need new content, but there are so many ways the game could be improved upon with actual content updates and knowing we won't get that has left me feeling meh. I always had hope we'd get more stuff so some of the more dreary or tiring aspects, I could hope would have newer stuff to it. Unfortunately that won't be coming and the game is left stagnant.
In the time since, I've managed to finally play the GameCube animal crossing so I've managed to play every mainline version of animal crossing (meaning the ones with towns/islands) and I gotta say, there are a lot of small details I miss. Small little conversation dialogue (not the mean dialogue really), the variety and weird things they'd say, the ball you could kick around town in the GameCube, some of the older holiday events, and plenty of older characters. I can't list any right now cause it's been a bit since I played and my memory is failing me, but there's so much charm that I really wish could have gotten added to new horizons. It seemed for a moment we were going on the right path, but then it was announced 2.0 was the last major free update.
I still find myself checking on my older towns more than I do my island aside from when I'm having a psychotic breakdown or episode and need to feel any sense of control. Especially since I have OCD and mine affects me to where I can't change my island regularly or restart (or I risk a bad anxiety attack and it can get ugly), I wish there were more things to do. Even Happy Home Paradise which I adore has become kind of stale that I barely can even complete one house most of the time.
It is a lot of just me personal things, but I solidly played the game for two years and when no more updates were announced was when I hit burn out. I could steadily go on cause there was always stuff to do, new stuff to explore, ways to imagine what could be added to the game. Now it's just the same over and over. It's already such a great game, but I do wish more fun, small details from older games and unique aspects could have been added in. Even some of the older NPCs returning are honestly...not as fun. Whenever I play now, I just think of "what could have been" including small little things to make the game easier as well as some accessibility options with the game volume, the music, etc. Just quality of life things that will probably never come so I'm stuck with a semi-stressful experience for my disabled gaming self.
This comes from a very passionate fan that adores all games and sees that they all have their pros and cons. Personally New Horizons and City Folk work best for my specific needs and desires. And although I'm a bit more negative here, I do still adore the game. Again, I do use it for when I have breakdowns and such so it is still a big comfort game for me and I love celebrating my villagers' birthdays. It's a wonderful game series and NH is a wonderful game, I just wish they hadn't given up on it or at least put the updates on pause for a bit.
Edit: I was really hoping for Celeste in the museum, able to purchase a specified amount of items instead of just having to spam, a specified amount for nook tickets and stuff, limiting orders to maybe 10 items a day instead of 5, make it easier to skip dialogue, adjust in game sounds like the waterfalls and change the music between the original soft music that plays before town hall is upgraded (I desperately tried to find a way to change it only to realize I was stuck with the current music. I like only a few specific tracks with others flat out giving me sensory overload, specifically 2 pm), some more activities to do like group stretching, more reactions, bringing back more older villagers cause that was dope. There was so much hope I had, also skipping a lot of repeated dialogue like when buying something or travelling (I have had SO many meltdowns over messing up the opening gates or flying stuff.) So much could be improved on as well as content added like having a variety of stores that were optional so if people just wanted the nook shop and the museum and clothing shop they could while citycore islands would have access to the myriad of stores possible, customizable buildings for the main buildings and stuff to help them fit themes better or just wanting to change em cause you don't like em. So much could have been done and now we won't get that, whether it's big updates or just quality updates. It's a shame we won't get it and have no idea what the future for AC holds.

Don't get me wrong, I love all those customization possibilities but it feels like that would be the main-task for the player and as someone who isn't artsy and creative at all, I get rather ovwerwhelmed by it. NL for example had much more things to do besides decorating your town, but NH doesn't really have that imo. It sometimes feels like some sort of decorating simulator in the AC universe (especially with the DLC), which would be cool, but maybe rather as a spin-off. There could've been added so many cool features from NL that would've kept you busy but somehow they didn't want to :(

I hate a lot of things already said in this video, but to add i also hate that the game is island centric and all the islands look the same..... They're islands in random locations supposedly around the world, why do they all only have brown cliffs and sands? The only thing that makes them "unique" are the native fruits and flowers, and out of the fruits we only get 1 out of like 4 options. I don't even care about the fruits much but it annoys me that the game is centered around islands and the islands aren't that customizable in terms of island types, we don't get the option for tropical climates a stereotypical thing we associate with island living.... I've been wanting white cliffs and sands for the longest time when thinking about making an island themed in Mario sunshine only for them to finally add it to the game in the form of Happy Home, and it's only on their archipelagos >.>
I still made my Delfino island but it could be so much more if only i had it feeling a bit more tropical. I'm not going for Caribbean or Hawaiian vibes, it's more rustic Italian cottage tropical warm, but i could only imagine how far id push the tropical vibe if i only had white cliffs and sand and some more tropical fruit trees.
I just find it stupid that they made a unique animal crossing game centered around island living and decorating the outdoors and there's no customizations as far as the climate we want, or how our islands look. That's all fine and all if it was towns like back in the day set in forests, but islands should be a bit more unique than that. For the first time they allow us to decorate outside, and everyone's islands feel the same. I also hate that the custom codes don't have sound files for us to attach to the custom paths where they all sound like we're running on paper, and yet in happy home they gave us sound files for indoor soundscapes, because we totally hang out in our houses all day in that game...

just a little complaint, but I really would not mind more buildings on our island. i get that its supposed to be "deserted", but if we are trying to build the island into our own little town, why not have more buildings? we only have three if you count resident services, and that seems like too little for me. a lot of creators have had to resort to using resident or villager homes to act as other buildings, or even use walls and other items to mimic buildings. it seems like such a let-down and more buildings would go a long way i feel, even if they are small and not as big as able sisters or nook's. idk just a personal take

As a software developer, I think I understand what's going on with ACNH's long loading screens.
*TL;DR:* Those long loading times are _not_ justified or necessary at least half the time. Details below for anyone who's interested:
    *The crucial context:*
Basically, when a new player enters an island, the Switch that's hosting them needs to load up all the assets for that player: the items they're carrying, the clothes they're wearing, their facial features---all of that needs to get loaded into the host's Switch's memory for the game to actually function properly.
For that matter, the Switch that the newcomer is playing on _also_ needs to load up all the assets for the island they're traveling to: all the furniture, all the villagers, all the buildings, all the clothing of all the characters who're already on the island, all the items on the island---the newcomer's Switch needs to load all of that, or else their game won't function properly, either.
In fact, all the Switches of other players who're already visiting the island _also_ need to load up the newcomer's items, clothing, and facial features, or the game won't function correctly on _their_ Switches, either.
    *The boneheaded part:"
The way the game is handling all these requirements right now is to simply have _all_ the Switches reload _everything_ that everyone is wearing and everything that's on the island every time someone new arrives.
Reloading everything is a fairly easy-to-code solution---if I can _call_ it a "solution". I strongly suspect that the developers of ACNH went with this as a quick and easy solution for how to make sure all the connected Switches had all the assets they needed for the game to function properly. Unfortunately, it means that any time anyone arrives at the island, _everyone_ gets a long loading time.
    *What they should've done instead:*
The _smart_ way to handle all this loading would be to have the visitors' Switches and the host's Switch quietly load up the assets of the newcomer as a background process during gameplay: that would just be adding whatever assets the newcomer has on top of the list of assets that are already in-memory. Then, once all the Switches have the newcomer's assets in-memory, the host should signal the newcomer's Switch that they're ready to enter, and _then_ the newcomer arrives on the island and can interact with the other players. With a more dynamic asset-loading system like that, only the newcomer would need a long loading time.
Or, to put it another way, the only long loading time that's genuinely impossible to avoid is the loading time for the newcomer; anyone who's already on the island shouldn't need to have their gameplay halted whenever someone new arrives, because the vast majority of the assets that they'd need to load _are already in their memory_. The reload-everything-for-everyone "solution" is loading a _lot_ of data that's already _been_ loaded, and that's unnecessary work that's halting everyone's gameplay experience.
Whatever the next Animal Crossing game is, I certainly hope Nintendo takes to heart that they can and should give players a much better online experience.

while I really love the whole Island terraforming and pathing mechanics, I miss the grass patterns changing with each season and the old way of making Paths with go trails and gradually trampling the grass over time so your established routes were literally carved into the grass
and the fact that the nook store only has one upgrade, I mean sure the cabinet basically took over Nookingtons entire lower floor minus the stationary and Harriet got replaced by a Mirror
but Cmon! give us more shop slots, even if it was just Gracie's over priced stuff
also the fact that Kicks is still separate from the able sisters just seems like a silly choice, especially given how small his stock pool is compared to the Able sisters and unless you pump up Harvs island to get his perma shop with the week long inventory with still limited stock
and gonna be random but I really Miss the Megaphone from new leaf, it made finding villagers so much easier where you would legit just call their names and they'd be like Ya called? they could have made it into a radial menu of your villagers icons and you could select who gets called for
it can be such a pain in the ass trying to find your villagers when you find their lost stuff or you have something from another villager to get them, also calling their names while they're really close and having them be surprised and then are like "Oh hi!" was really cute

I love Animal Crossing: New Horizons more than any of the games before it and I started with the first on GameCube here in the West. I love practically everything about it, but I don't love that Nintendo seemingly dropped adding things to the schedule and the calendar doesn't feel as optimal as I would've liked. I was expecting more, not sure exactly what I was expecting, but I wanted to retain events from all the past games including the Summer games and aerobics from the original. I also miss the Lost and Found because I really liked Copper and Booker, and I thought maybe they'd add a city island at some point to bring all of the characters like that who have disappeared in this game.
One more thing, probably the most important and it's just echoing something you said, I miss cranky villagers. I miss being able to push them around while they're sleeping until they get angry, I miss planting pitfalls outside their houses and waiting for them to walk by, and I miss the glimpses at their hearts when mailing them letters and getting a response.
