I'm the niece of the boy that never returned from the skating rink. Edward Hope Smith. Because of whoever did this he missed out on his two younger siblings, finishing school, grandchildren, all his nieces and nephews. And that's very unsettling that they didn't catch who did it just who they think did it and he didn't even get charged for their murders even if he did commit them. And my grandma is 70 and his grandma is now 91 years old.

I was in my early 20s when all of this was happening....living in a state far away, and a new mother with my first baby son. The news on the TV was sickening....and left us horrified and dismayed that sooooo many children had been killed. I missed the programs on TV that were produced after the case went to trial....and I'm catching up to all of them that I can find now: thanks to the gift of RUclips.
I feel so sorry for all of the families and loved ones who experienced the murder of their children.
For many of them: there will never be closure....never be relief...and the grieving will be forever.
I'm wishing all of them continued strength, resiliency, and comfort apart from their troubles.

I was in my early 20's attending college in TN one state away from GA. So many were killed I remember well. In 1979 I was in Atlanta with 3 friends, the Aunt Pittypats restaurant near where that guy was killed was where we went. We parked my friends car in a nearby garage. When we returned the car was broken into and all our luggage was gone. I can remember there had already been 3 unsolved murders of black children at that time.

Wayne Williams lived 1.6 miles from us. I was in 2nd grade walking to and from school. I remember watching this movie as kid. It scared us. We were scared but we still had to walk to school. Thank God nothing ever happened to us back then. So sad for the families who lost their children.

It amazed me that with all the murdered children, kids were still walking around at night by themselves. That the wife of the main detective thought nothing of her two children waiting on a bench in the dark cause she was late picking them up!? WTH?

I find it intriguing since I was 9yo in the 80s. I learned of this movie while looking for porn in my mom's vhs stash tapes. It was on a memorex vhs tape with no label. I didn't find any porn that day, instead I came across a mystery that would change my life. I've always thought Wayne was stupid, naive, condescending, intelligent, wierd. He either killed some or none. NO WAY HE KILLED ALL OF THEM CHILDREN...... AND TWO ADULTS. BULLSHHT!!!

I didn't live near Williams ..I lived in Rockdale County.it's about a 25min. drive from Atlanta . I'm white and all the kids being found were black , but still a killer is a killer So yes we were affected by it . when your a kid you think the ''killer'' could be anywhere . plus I had black friends in my classes . and that was the first victim found in our county , so it was big news . the case itself was so huge ...everybody followed it even us kids .I still think about it from time to time ..I feel sorry for not only the victims familys but also William's parents . they seemed like really decent people . they were also victims .

I drove by Wayne Williams' former home in recent years, and the house still looks close to the same - and it even appeared that someone was living in it. Yikes! I wouldn't want to be the one to live in a serial killer's former home - but maybe that's just me. Maybe the current occupants performed a "spirit cleansing" on the home, or something. Or perhaps the current occupants are relatives....one might have a different perspective on things if one is a relative of Williams.

BTW: I was about 10 years old and living in South Texas when these crimes happened. In a little city called "Texas City" - and my classmates and friends were 80% black. I was scared for all my classmates. Our school had police officers come and talk to us kids about strangers - exactly like the scene portrayed in the movie where Morgan Freeman talks to the school. That whole time period - we lived in fear. It was actually the first time in my young life where I was really truly scared.

the only hard thing to deal with even to this day is imagining what could have happen, imagining my faace on this tv show. but god saveed me for a purpose, he has saaved me a few more times since then, the aangels has sspokeen to me many times. there has been things happen that i couldnt explain. i have seen things move i couldnt explain...of course it moved in a way that just let me know someone was there and not in a way that scared me. there were times i use to drive home late at nite either tired from working or from drinking at a friends house and i dose off and a voice or something would wake me up just in time for me to keep from runing off the road down 20ft embankments. i remember me and a friend of mine was at a birthday party one nite and i remember getting off work kinda late and tired but i still attended the party. i didnt drink any alcohol that nite because it was already late and i had to get up extra early the next morning. but anyway we left maybe 2am. i remember taking a left to get onto the interstate and merginging into the traffic. home was about 15miles....and thats all i remembered..i have no memory of getting off the exit but what was so funny is i remember waking up at the redlight and car was still in drive and my friend who was riding with me was the one that woke me up. he said he had fallen asleep to and he ask me who was driving the car if both of us had fallen asleep?...it freaked him out for weeks..

But 4 African Americans who actually lived in Atlanta during that period a lot of us that feel retelling this story is not in the best interest of the community. Some of those victims families still live in Atlanta & 4 those who did not live in Atlanta during that time it would be hard 2 grasp the magnitude of fear suspicion & mistrust our communities felt. I don't think many native atlantans would object 2 the story being retold we just don't want it turned into a tv drama series 4 entertainment. We are talking about actual events that have had a prolonged & adverse effect on the lives of many people.

I saw a documentary, the kids Williams killed were out at 2 in the morning running the streets, they went to arcades that were open to all hours. Some of the young boys, some even under 12 were hooking. We didn't know how the blacks lived back in the day, but it was an eye opener for law enforcement and the rest of the nation.

I really appreciate you uploading this. I have been looking for this for so long and finally here it is. I use to watch it as a kid and use to be so scared. I think during the time that all those kids were being murdered as a mother I would have kept my child in my eye sight at all times and not let them go walk different places. No, not really, this movie didn't show half of the real evidence. It's a made for TV movie by CBS (Complete Bull Sh!t). There were many more kids who came forward who had gotten away and pointed right at Wayne Williams as the predator. 1979 I & my family were living in sw Atlanta my first year of high school. Timothy Hill one of the victims of these crimes his family lived 2 blocks from us. I remember this mini series on tv many people in our neighborhood could not & would not watch it. Many people believed these murders were committed by racist white police officers because no one else could move so easily through black neighborhoods & not be suspected.

I will never forget this movie and the intro was creepy in a way. I do remember this movie scared the ish out of me when it first came out and the situation was itself was scary as hell. I grew up in Connecticut and I can remember watching this on the news and feeling so bad for the city of Atlanta and the parents of the slain children. So saddddddddd! This is something Atlanta should never forget about. Does Atlanta even acknowledge a memorial for these murders or any kind of rememberence for the slain children.

I find it intriguing since I was 9yo in the 80s. I learned of this movie while looking for porn in my mom's vhs stash tapes. It was on a memorex vhs tape with no label. I didn't find any porn that day, instead I came across a mystery that would change my life. I've always thought Wayne was stupid, naive, condescending, intelligent, wierd. He either killed some or none. NO WAY HE KILLED ALL OF THEM CHILDREN...... AND TWO ADULTS. BULLSHHT!!!

I remember this Series when I was only about 7 years old , it showed in Brazil, I was so young and didn't understand much if was only a movie or about reality, the name (Assassinato em Atlanta) and some scenes just got stuck in my head forever like a trauma.

@I Flick wrong the murders did not stop after Wayne was convicted! Ask the detective who was signed to all the cases, he wrote the book called "The List" with all the other 60+ victims who did not make the official list

The only issue with that extension of the list was that almost all of those victims were shot or stabbed, not strangled. Those bodies were found where they were killed, not dumped. They also were males in their 20's involved in street crimes and women in their 20's who were drug addicts or prostitutes. So yes, the tragedy of black deaths continued in Atlanta, as they do today but they were not part of these killings. These killings were the dissolution of a child sex ring. Wayne was a participant as either john, procurer, photographer, killer or body disposer.

I was 9 yrs old when this movie came out. I recall being terrified to walk to school afterwards; even though I lived 100's of miles away. Now, at 46, I get that same cringe up my spine. But, as an adult and mother, my heart 💔 breaks for the parents/families who lost their children/loved ones 🫂. Im not 100% sure Wayne is thee (or the only) responsible party 🤔. I also lived in Decatur - but I guess for much of those years (1979 - 1981) I was a little too young to fully realize what was going on. Maybe my parents kept me sheltered from what was happening. One of the only memories I have from that time was the flyers of each missing and/or deceased kid that were posted in the lobby of my church. But even seeing all of those flyers (which eventually numbered in the 20s) didn't scare me *that* much - for some reason, I kind-of thought of the murders as something removed from myself and my life. I guess it helped that I was a girl - I really didn't fit the profile of the victims.

Gladys Durden saw a man climb into the window 4 times, who would've then had to climbed over her brother's bed and past her parents' room. He left out the back door, leaving it ajar. She then witnessed him talking to another black male in the parking lot, with LaTonya in his arms. Nathaniel Cater once lived upstairs from her apartment, and was suspected to be one of the men speaking in the parking lot.

Witness Amp Wiley, who lived next door, said earlier that day he had seen an old model van and two males and a female hanging around near the back of the Wilson's apartment. After he went into his apartment, he could hear a commotion in the Wilson's apartment through his kitchen wall, like someone was getting "a whipping." Then he heard Ella Wilson's voice yell "Stop!" Wiley left his apartment about an hour and a half later, when he saw Ella Wilson, seemingly upset, sitting outside on her apartment balcony. She ignored Wiley when he called out to her.
A maintenance man had replaced the glass in the window a few days before. The same man confessed to another murder and had pictures of "all the victims" in his room when arrested.
