Jam with Korg ER1+ESX1+ Boss ER20 + Soundblox ProBEF

- A short jam to test how I might use these boxes for a live performance. Nothing too sophisticated here: the ER-1 clocks the ESX1 over midi and the RE20 has tap tempo on. I've split the stereo out of the ER-1 so the L channel goes to the mixer with the RE20 on the FX return; the ER-1 R channel is fed to the Soundblox BEF. Then it's just a matter of tweaking the pan on each of the sounds as they play to get different effects plus modulating the sounds with the ER-1 knobs and playing with feedback and reverb on the ER20. Hey thanx, it was a fun experiment. I hotted up the ESX1 and replaced the EHX valves with a matched pair of Mullard JJ ECC803S ones so those subby basses and kicks are super fat and warm.
Thats a pretty cool idea, with replacing the tubes, especially because these are really good ones. should do this with my TL Audio fat track, too :-)

The tube swap works a treat on the ESX and easy to do but I would of thought the Fat Track had some pretty nice tubes as standard, it's a pro piece of kit
It has, but I bought it used and the fat track is now about 6 years old. This is why I thought about swapping the tubes.

Hey Matt, Thanks. It's always fun to get all the boxes out to play together! Since this clip was made I have replaced the ESX1 with an Elektron Analog4 ... they are not exactly the same kind of machines but the A4 is a great noise making box nonetheless
Nice. Seems those Elektron boxes are universally applauded. Would love to have one but just haven't wanted to eat the cost yet.

They are expensive for sure but they do make some amazing noises, although I'm still getting to grips with the workflow (but maybe I'm just a slow learner). I did have to sell some gear to offset the cost but now I'm GASing over the keyboard version ... aah well, the grass is always greener when you start looking round at other gear!
