  • A quick first test of my 'faux' modular Electribe rig. I made a simple MDF case for my 2 old Electribes and added space for 4 x Mooer micro-fx pedals (usually used on guitars). The idea was to 'fake' modular synth routing options by using the various sound generators on the Electribes sent thru each other's Audio Ins and sequencers and then add the Mooer pedals as extra modulation colours. Just a bit of fun ... please don't get worked up that it's actually digital and not really a modular!! :)

You should post a video of that rack setup without the synths on it- I am _very_ inspired and would like a closer look!

Can do! Maybe give me a week and I can probably get that sorted ... I don't think I took any pics when making it but it's easy to left out the Electribes to show the rack/case. I know I have the full scale drawing I made with InDesign and can post or email that as a PDF.

great sounds out of your "half modular"-stuff and pretty cool idea!
love your moor mini pedals, especially the flanger! but delay sound are also really spacey!

Hi VolcaRock, thanks for the comment. I chose the Mooer pedals mainly for their size (plus they are cheap $$ on the secondhand market here) ... I like their Analog Delay and Distortion pedals best but unlike Boss pedals the Mooer pedals are rally best on guitar, probably something to do with how the circuits are configured for nput from pickups.

analogmoose the size is unbeatable! Most guitar pedals are not really "clean" in frequency. some make it sound better, some not, but in the mix it is mostly not noticeable. . I also love to run my MS-20 through my pedalboard including the guitar preamp wich really cuts the edges hard, but so I get a unique lead-sound.

The piece was great, the setup thumb made me laugh cuz some take it a smidge too serious, and finally, those 'tribes rock even though they are almost old enough to vote, I will never part with mine, returned the TRash-8 immediately though, funny that...

Thanks Gossamyr Thorne; yeah some folks do get a bit too serious in their pants at times! I have to confess though, I have actually parted with my tribes - so many great times with them - but I just wasn't using them enough so they have gone to users who can now appreciate them all over again! Funnily I'm left with my customised stand that doesn't really fit anything else but the Mk1 tribes ...might have to offer it up on eBay or something.

dude man, this looks cool! anyway, the electribes are virtual analog, I always thought for "digital" they had a good sound.

yrmothervideos Thanks! I agree about the Electribes, for VA synths (and older ones at that) they have a sound all their own that just seems to work.

Cheers! I made the stand out of MDF from the hardware store. There's a more detailed clip of the stand itself here: ruclips.net/video/Ws1UykZo_ls/видео.html but if you want a PDF of the design plan I drew up you can PM me at analogmoose(the at symbol)gmail(the dot)(com) ....

These early Electribes had a great vibe and easy editing to quickly get ideas happening. Cheers!

Can you explain please how you gate the sound of the EA-1 with the sequencer of the ER-1,would like to try this out, just need maybe some more fx pedals, have Boss distortion, the korg kaoss pad 2 which i could output to and a zoom multi fx rack unit that has everything but i feel not as good as especially some of the delay pedals that i would rather try,so how do i gate the sound please?

Hi John G, thanks for the question. I've since got rid of both of these units but as I recall what I did in this clip was run one side of the EA1 output directly into the ER1 external audio in #1 and sent the Part 2 audio thru some of the FX pedals. The part going into the ER1 could only be heard when the corresponding button was pressed (audio 1 & 2 buttons located below the Ringmod button) and I had set the ER1 Decay for that button to a very short length. When I listen back to it now I'm not sure it comes thru the mix so well as I had a lot of FX and delays fighting for attention. Basically I was trying to use the ER1 as a stutter syle gate for the EA1 sound, to get that hard clipped end to the audio rather than have the EA1 Decay envelope do it. You can gate the EA1 sound with or without using FX before feeding it into the ER1. Your Boss distortion should sound good on both Electribes. But a dedicated delay effect is something I always recommend for every electronic player but a great, cost effective alternative is the Zoom CDR70 and there are many excellent clips showing it used on synths and Electribes and other groove boxes. I hope that helps. Best of luck!

Hi analogmoose, will try this out at some point, thanks for the advice, not got a delay pedal at moment,do have a zoom 1201 but not sure if i can use it like a pedal as its a rack type multi FX unit, need to plug it into an input on an amp usually, will maybe look at getting a delay pedal from ebay, been looking but keep getting outbid lol.Is a good result you get though the way you have connected things together.Thanx again.

Hi John, glad to be of help. You could definitely use your Zoom1201 as an FX unit on Electribes as I'm sure it has stereo line level in/out on the back and broad selection of FX types to choose from. Could even be worth experimenting to see if you fed a different Electribe output to each of the L and R ins ... might give some interesting results coming back out as a stereo mix. Alternatively if you happen to use mixer with an FX send or 2 you could easily strap it across the sends/returns on that and then mix the depth of the FX to suit the sounds going to each channel.

that sounds like some good ideas, not used it for a while the zoom unit,am just working out what the EA 1 does, used to have the EA1 mk1 and am sure it was a little more easy to work out than the mk2,I also might have to unplug something else to make room for the zoom 1201 9v plug/adapter on the already full extension board, thanks for the help analogmoose .
