For context, OG doesn't had Voice acting, so the voice that everyone gave Nanaki in their heads is different, and even when you get to Cosmo Canyon you were 10 maybe 15 hours in. So is not like people gave him that mental voice for too long. And with Remake, we got a voice. Then in Rebirth you spend over 40 hours with the same voice. Then suddenly it changes to a younger one. And I think the whiplash is even bigger if someone played Remake back in 2020. That means people had the same "Red" voice in their heads for years. Also, I feel one of the topics of the game in general is about identity, so it kinda fits.
