@@vishnuskumar5387 ahh so someone did point it out, I'm thinking that I was the only judge there note: I do know that animators put in lot of effort and time and are getting underpaid but I really am traumatized after 7 deadly sins season 2 so I'm sorry if I offend anyone
tbh its an stupid decision change all the story just to be concentrated on YOUR country instead of the country the creator put, its like me, an brazilian, wanted the world to know the other parts of brazil other than rio de janeiro and sao paulo, its stupid Plus the amount of hate they will get if that changes be true is gigantic, i really bet they will go back into normally adaptating it after the hate
Suddenly my interest in the anime collapsed. The fact that Sung Jin Woo is Korean is so fundamental to the plot of the story that this simple nationality change is depriving the story of one of its best fuel : the fact that South Korea, as a small country, struggle to keep its place and stability in this era of powerful hunters, surrounded by juggernauts like China, Japan or the US on the outside, and struggling against power of the guilds in the inside. It is not just decoration, it is structuring the very core of the story. An more, this is increasing the importance of the power scaling of Sung Jin Woo towards domination.
Yeah, that’s stupid to me. Are they just going to rename all the Korean characters now too? At this point it isn’t even solo leveling. This was just a horrible idea in the first place
Honestly I was also disappointed. You are totally right about just how important Sung being Korean is to the story. To add on to your important points, theres also cultural aspects that are in the manhwa specific to Korea that I don't think would come across nearly as well. Also (and this could just be me), but it kinda feels a bit disrespectful to DUBU who put their all into solo leveling right up until the end. I want to see it as its supposed to be; in Korea, with a Korean Sung Jin Woo.
@@TotallyNotHau From what I heard, they got tons of backlash from reviewers and fans of the Manwha, in addition to the illustrator passing earlier this year, late last year. Not sure if that was the reason though.
@@ShadedReaper the thing is they never said they would change the origin to japan it just came out of someones ass saying "yeah mate they gonna change from korean to japanese" source "trust me bro"
First issue won't be a problem, japanese localization version of Solo leveling also changes the setting from korea to japan, they changes japanese hunters into a hunters from Fictional Nation.
i dont understand the first issue. So when South Koreans in manhwa portray Japaneese as evil and cunning - it's ok. Let's go with that. But when Japaneese in anime portray South Korea as evil and cunning - it will offend an entire country?
@@quas3728 and that’s crazy, because the webtoon literally only has some, emphasize SOME villainous Japanese characters for the Jeju island arc and that’s it. It’s not denoting or insulting Japan in any way. I PRAY that the rumors are just rumors because if not, Crunchyroll and A-1 are cowards
@@AndresHernandez-yk5im A-1 was not involved to this situation. A lot of webtoons change character from kr to jp when they release jp version. (I don't know the reason. maybe It makes sales higher). Solo Leveling was one of them. this localization already has happened in novel and webtoon version 2019. tbh I don't think It's a issue. because most of people probably will watch eng version which is not jp version.
@@quas3728 ok, but then why not change God of High School then? It’s still based in Korea. The only reason they’re changing it, hope it’s still a rumor, is because of petty reasons like the Jeju Island arc. If God of High School had Japanese villains, they would have done the same thing
Well, episode one just came out and all these allegations proved to be false so....that goes to show the importance of not reviewing something before it actually comes out
this video is just his speculation and analysis on how the anime would turn out. He even said in the description that "I hope I'm wrong about this'' What? You cannot have an educated guess of where a new adaptation anime would turn up to be based on other adaptation anime that he has mentioned here? You mad? People can have an educated guess on something. You just need not to confuse that as if it is a negative criticism without any thoughts behind it. I still believe the anime will not be as hyped as in the manhwa just because they change the country of origin in the anime. That has a huge impact to the story later on. I guess we will see
I don't think it'll be bad long term. Chances are if you're watching this anime : You're a fan and wants to consume more SL content or you're an anime-only who wants to see what the hype is all about. If you're in the 2nd camp, assuming SL anime can stand on its own merits (by making its own pacing and changes), it'll be better for the series. It'll create the usual division among its community, but at the same time it'll also expand the total viewership of the series which seems to be the goal by doing the whole Korea to Japan thing. Also, its A1 Pictures. They've done big shows like SAO, Lie in April, 7Sins for 20+ episode, so they'll very likely to do a 20+ episode run for SL.
@@isaaconthetele Well, we hope it'll be. Afaik, there's no official confirmation for 20+ eps yet. I do agree that having this as a 12 episode will really be bad for the pacing.
@@isaaconthetele If there is one big problem for SL getting adapted by A1, is the fact they're under Aniplex. The workers there... are pretty overworked with how many anime adaptations they're currently doing. There's already 6 animes by them being adapted this season. From the conversation around Aniplex workers... it's not going good.
1. I don’t see why Japan can’t stick to the source material even if it does make them look bad. Obviously it’s a fictional story, and Korean representation in manwha adaptations is important as that’s where the stories originate. 2. I might be in the minority but I absolutely love the beginning of solo leveling. The way they use sungs experience in the double dungeon as a call back to all the ways he has grown is fantastic writing, and the fight in the goblins layer and with Igris and the undead army are going to be nuts, so either way I don’t think the first season will be boring, however I don’t want to see it rushed with 100 chapters. 3. A lot of big name studios are already adapting more shows than they can handle. With that being said, I am also nervous for the quality that A1 studios will bring, however they do have the musical director that worked on AOT and I’m hoping that since this one of the only big name action works they are working atm, A1 studios won’t want to drop the ball. I never see anyone make Solo Leveling content so I hope you keep up with the series
Ya I think you are correct, the first part of solo leveling is really good, people probably forgot that A-1 worked on fairytail and while they did reuse the attack animations they did make good action scenes, A-1 also did sword art online which the animation was objectively good, their story was just not good for what A-1 had to show off, they seem really good at mixing 2 and 3d together and I think they can do a good job. TLDR: A-1 have animated good action animes and I think people should give them more credit.
Absolutely agree with point 2. I LOVE the beginning of this story, especially when he's first starting out as a Player and figuring things out, as well as the first solo dungeon.
1. Yeah, they should have stuck to the source material regardless of how the story made Japanese look. If they reverse the whole thing and make it so the Koreans are the "bad guys" during the Jeju island arc, it will feel weird. Plus Sung Jin-woo straight up looks Korean and Goto Ryuji looks Japanese. Will they also change the character designs? Overall it just feels like such a bad choice. 2. I also loved the 1st chapters. My favorites to be honest are the chapters that he clears dungeons and recruits his army of shadows and obviously the Jeju island arc is the peak of the Manhwa. 3. I wish the studio was Sunrise or MAPPA because they know how to do CGI the best in my opinion, but I think A1 will do a decent job and the studio in general will be the least of our concerns.
Honestly i wish ufotabel would be the low bar for every anime, but sadly its a shit ton of work, not like mappa where they do like 10 shows and one maybe looks okish. And since 86 was really good and you saw that they even pushed episodes back so they can make the final great was a really good idea, one mappa would never do since most mappa stuf looks better on blu-ray what just shows that they should just take more time. Also i think the fast half isnt the best of solo leveling but still really good and i loved it, i mean most that happens there is important till the end
@@alterman200 What crack are you on? All projects MAPPA done have been great. Ufotable is wasted potential with Demon Slayer, but of course they will only animate whoever pays them a fortune.
I wish sung jin woo would be sung jin woo, not just out of respect for the late author but also for the fan base that certain identity has created. Imo the impact that this manhwa has created and the plot as well as the emotion behind it is enormous and really something that you get only out of a masterpiece. I pray that this anime is just as good as the manhwa/novel or else it’s gonna be down the gutter.
the simple reason is that some parts of the anime will be changed. The problem is that the anime will change not only the nationality, but also the name of Sung Jin Woo. If you are a fan you'll know that chills have gone down our spines after any character has said his name so its not the same without his name.
@@Mike313H so they prefer to fuck the opportunity of making a banger anime as it was in the manga because they salty that Japanese people were a bit shitty in the manga? Like bruh
I just recently got back into anime and ended up reading the manhwa in like 3 days since earlier this week. I’m honestly sad that it’s ended even though all the build up was surely worth it. They could break this down into 4 seasons and honestly get a lot out of it if they were willing to take their time with the story, but if they don’t include the Jeju arc I can’t see how this would turn out okay.
This does highlight a lot of the problems with using our world as the base for stories. It makes it convenient in the aspect that people know Korea, Japan, China, America, etc. but foolish people will take it personally when the ones from their country are the bad guys.
@@cortesyes why not just have a fictional world and solve all the problems associated with using our world? @@cortesyes I would disagree any country that didn't send help when they had it before the rift break on Jeju is evil and responsible for all the people that died in the initial rift break. Also just to be clear I never said Solo Leveling should be changed at this point quite the opposite actually. I merely stated that when writing initially there was no reason to develop the story based on Earth's countries. They already made a Cha Hae In character design so it's either gonna be a 24 episode anime OR a really fast pacing.. 😐 (She debuted around chapter 60, so we not gonna end on the part where Jin Woo gets his powers.)
Hold your horses son. Second episode is great, but we're starting to see the pacing issue creep in now. We need to see them push down the brakes after the Job Change arc to avoid the tower of god crash. They're going to blaze past the Jeju island by episode 16 at this pace. They're going to blow their load then we get a sloppy second/final season cleaning up after that mess before snoozing through the boruto spin off

to say the first 47 ch is boring is an overstatement. It's literally the key part of the manhwa.. where a bunch of isekais like SAO failed, SL succeeded. it's his growth you're calling boring where it was actually the hook of the whole thing. the latter chapters are the conventional op character stories you'll always see anywhere personally they can make it 2 seasons tops. the story is short but it's worthwhile. rushing it or dragging it ruins it. and they should end S1 at 110 because that's how the manhwa ended so that's how the author wanted the 1st season to end
I said this so many times... the localization is not issue. It's like a pokemon's mc. he is ash in us, he is han jiu in kr, he is satoshi in jp. It's like that. many people think japan is overwriting SL. It's wrong. If you don't believe me. just go watch official teaser. JP teaser has jp names like Shun Mizushino but KR teaser has names like Sung Jin Woo. You guys probably watch english version of anime which has KR names. so it's not issue at all. Actually a lot of webtoons change character from kr to jp when they release the series in jp. I guess It's because It makes series sale higher. Well... yeah I kinda wanted ufo to animate solo leveling but maybe solo leveling didn't have enough money for ufo since genshin got ufo.
If Korean and English dub uses the Korean names I will probably end up watching that instead. If you haven't read the Manhwa, then watching it in JP dub with the changed names shouldn't be an issue, otherwise it will just feel wrong.
That's false equivalence, firstly Ash comes from a fictional setting, so the series can distance itself from portrayals of real people and nationalities. Secondly, where he is from (pallet town) will never change for different languages, even if his name changes. In SL Sung Jin Woo is Korean and the studio has purposefully changed his nationality and the setting of the story because they don't like the depictions of Japanese people in the source material. I get that it's not a good look when hunters from Japan get killed off and Sung Jin Woo saves Japan straight after the Jeju arc, but it's pretty self serving to make these kinds of changrs.

@@quas3728 I get your points here but almost all dubbed modern anime acknowledges the original country of origin for characters and settings. A majority of localisation happened during the early years of dubs and they have since kept those naming conventions because it was what people grew up with, but times have changed. People don't want to see anti-korean sentiment here but it's hard to ignore given the history between the two countries. You're free to consume whatever content you like and nobody is going to stop you, but it's clear what the studio is doing and it's definitely not justifiable in a modern context.
There is actually no way they changed the name “Sung Jin woo” for webtoon and novel readers, the name “sung Jin woo” is so popular that pretty much every reader of this genre knows the name… changing the name would make the story feel completely different.

I'm expecting it to be more of the same to be honest. Anime based on Manga / Manhwa / Manhua in general always seem to struggle because of the pacing reasons you stated. Either they skip a lot of stuff or they end it on a super inconvenient point, or it's both. We've honestly seen stranger things when it comes to locational censoring. So a location change and name change isn't all that surprising to me. Honestly I kinda saw it coming. If anything I kinda like it. Manhwa constantly portray Korea as a gem of the world and shitting on other countries so it's nice for them to get shat on for a change.
Yeah, Tower of God should have been a masterpiece, but they rushed they hell out of it. Every episode I implored anybody who actually liked it, or semi liked it, to read the 6-7 damn long ass chapters that were crammed into each episode. They could have made the damn thing something like 20-22 episodes and gotten all they needed into the first season/prologue. Hopefully they'll be kinder to season 2. The uptick in action will bring in way more eyes.
I don't really like it when people say something will fail without even watching it, while I don't like that they've changed the country I'll watch it anyway.
the only thing, that makes solo leveling great - amazing art style. Those static, saturated, colourful scenes. Story is bad. Main Character is bland. World building is flawed. So either anime would have to change story into better one. Or do incredible animations of fighting and scenery. I mean, animations better than season 1 of Onepunch man. And that's a really hard thing to do

Solo Leveling is the manhwa that many people love. I don't know why they chose a Japanese studio instead of a korean one to represent the manhwa, and there are many good korean animation studios. Lookism is a good example, Netflix did justice to its webtoon and stuck to its origin.
@@fazn664 thats true, which is a little annoying sometimes. i dont think the animation in lookism was that terrible, i had enjoyed watching it regardless because of how they did a good job of sticking to the source material.

i just watched the anime and checked if they changed the names and it looks like they didnt. plus about the pacing i dont think it really matters if the animations and fights are elite as the writing in the manhwa is pretty mid in and of its self just cookie cutter hype which isnt a problem. as long as the scenes are well animated and feels as much hype as the scene in the manhwa then i shall rest happy.
trailer just dropped and im so happy that yourewrong, they actually stuck with the original adaptation and just seeing reduce and chugong working with the anime, this will be amazing!!!
This might sound both good and bad but I just wanted to say props to you for making such well made videos when you have under 1k. That type of effort is amazing and motivates me. Cant wait to see you at 100k.
First issue doesn't seem it'll be that bad. Going off the other comments, the manhwa localization had the Korean characters be Japanese and the Japanese characters be from a fictional country. It does confuse me where that would put Jeju (the island) as Jeju is a South Korean island, the largest one actually. I'm guessing the name of the island is changed to the name of a Japanese island or something cause Jeju Island is before Jin Woo goes international (progression goes from national to international after Jin Woo gets stronger *wink*. If you know, you know). If they don't change the island's name then it'll mean instead of Jin Woo going to solve a problem in his country, he's right off to go solve a problem in another country. A huge leap in development. Second issue. The one that worries me the most. After GOH and TOG, I've kind of come to terms with the fact that any manhwa adaptation is going to be rushed with this one being no exception. In the trailer, Hae-in's character sheet was shown meaning they are at least going to have her appear within 24-25 episodes (assuming A1 is doing the usual). She first appeared around the 65th chapter so that means they're going at around 2.7 chapters per episode. That may not sound bad, but this is only if she's going to appear around the near-end of the season which I highly doubt. So we're looking at about 3-5 chapters per episode, maybe even more. That would be a bit more difficult to pace out, especially for the action or exposition heavy chapters. Hopefully they don't rush it too much though, I don't have much hope. Last issue. Going off the second issue of pacing, I've kind of accepted that this anime will be more of an eye-candy anime than a plot driven anime. Not that the original manhwa or novel were heavily plot driven. In fact, you could say the manhwa's art style carried the novel's typical op main character story. But the story did have some plot to be carried. And as of right now, my prediction off the previews alone is that the anime will drop even that little bit of plot by rushing the story. This was likely going to be true no matter what studio received the job as if they were going to be doing a well-paced adaptation, it would become a long term investment similar to MHA (multiple seasons, likely 3 to 4). This means the only real thing we should be concerned about is the animation as plot being properly paced was highly unlikely from the start no matter the studio. This one I'm worried about, albeit to a lesser extent, as it's A1. Going off SAO and 7sins, the animation likely won't be bad by any means. But for Solo Leveling's style with the characters being more tall and lean a studio like Mappa would likely fit it better (I'm going off the AOT s4 and OPM s3 designs as a base) than A1. Still, we can't tell until the first episode is out so all we can do is wait and speculate for now.
If the anime really thought the portrayal of Japan and Japanese was a problem in the manhwa (which I completely understand -- it is offensive and directed), they could have changed the characters representing Japan to a fictional country. It fixes the problem just fine. But why Sung Jin Woo to Japanese? Sung Jin Woo and the other koreans being korean plays a big part in the story. Bits and pieces of korean culture can also be seen in the story as well. Heck, an even better solution would have been to change both countries to fictional, and remove all the cultural references and make it pure objective. They didnt. And thats plain disrespect in my eyes. And the most important thing is -- that is plain disrespect of the author, story writing and culture of the country. Additionally, changing solo leveling to Japan seems like stealing something Korean to Japanese. As an asian (neither korean or japanese but still an asian), its fucked up to take something from another country (especially since the plot circles around these different countries) and reshape it to your country. As an artist, its fucked up to change something so integral to the plot, when there was another better solution to the problem. Sure its not a big problem, but its fucked up and deserves some degree of hate and attention. There are better solutions, they just chose a fucked up one.
It doesn't matter crap what country he comes from or if Japan is evil or not. Some guys just want to create a controversy because they were proved wrong when they said Solo Levelling will not get an anime. Nope,in novel version you can see racist in it,in manhwa there few hunter who survive in jeju arc but in novel all the hunter from japan is killed. And in novel the president hunter association need kneel to korea president association to help in japan arc. And there more but im forgot, manhwa version got nerf in hate to japan (you know why). Bro one of the best things about SL is the interactions later on between the different country's and also hunters being a representation of a country's power since you never really see that kinda thing in anime/manga/manhwa for some reason. For me at least I think that changing the mc origin, name etc... is not gonna turn out well +CG shadows 💀💀💀
I actually was introduced to this manwha/story via audiobooks. It did take me awhile to figure out all of the characters, as I'm much less familiar with Korean names than I am with Japanese names, and having nothing but audio to go on, with no text, it was tough...but I eventually got it all down and was glad to be learning some new stuff. It is REALLY bizarre to me that they would change this to a japanese setting, particularly when God of High School seems to have pulled it off just fine in terms of setting (and yes, the last half of that season was a complete cluster) Also, I don't know if I agree that only doing the first 45 chapters would be a boring first season. I loved that part of the story, as it did a bunch of world building, and showed his humble beginnings, which is a HUGE part of what makes there be such amazing payoffs down the road. His first solo dungeon for example? So good seeing the payoff when he went from that to when he meets his friend in the next dungeon (I'm being vague for no major spoilers).
Wow, I was hesitant to watch this at first. Just thought it was going to be someone trash talking with no justifications to back it up. But this was legit so informative. I randomly stumbled onto SL of all places, on Amazon. And this was just me going on the deep rabbit hole of "window shopping". And stumbled onto some framed poster showing off what I now know is Jin Woo's necromancer crew. But I didn't know at the moment I saw these pictures on Amazon, but the artwork was fascinating, so dark, and the engery aurora colors they showed were beautiful. This wasn't even official merchandise, just a generic seller. But the series title wasn't mentioned on the product description. So I was able to find out where this work came from and got into it. I'm glad I discovered it before it might get butchered when it's converted into an anime. Your review video was legit insightful, thankz 💯
I have an idea of how they would pace the show is like this, there will be 2 seasons 55 chapters for per season. there will be 18 episodes for each season. In every episode, they would go through 3 chapters except for the final episode of each season which would have 4 chapters in it.
I think the problem is, if they kept Japan as the "cunning" ones, not only will it offend where unchallengeably the best anime and the most viewers of anime come from, as well as the ones obsessed with Japanese culture. Also, I forget his name but the guy that got solo'd by Beru, "Japan's strongest hunter" would be correlated to a weak Japan, in a modern world which would offend Japan as well. I don't think A1 studios want to change the location of the anime for the culture but rather views and money. Either way, someone is bound to get insulted. And considering they made/contributed to, SAO, black butler, Fairy Tail, Blue Exorcist, I think this is their chance to show they are capable and using a manwha to do that is that much better because of the acceptance.
@@user-zl1vf4me1p Yes this is very true, I really liked that plot because it also shows that korea stands no chance, it was like all of korea and japan were evened out but as much as I hate to admit it, it could be related to a stronger korea (because of sung jin woo) than japan which would set crazy people off.
in my opinion, this matter reaches far further than being offensive. korea and japan have had many fall-outs and disagreements due to culture, land and historical events i believe. many japanese hates the south koreans while many south koreans hate the japanese. if im not wrong, there was already an incident regarding kdrama almost surpassing japan's media, which caused quite a few protests and unhappiness. im sure the anime studio animating solo leveling would not want to deal with such criticism and accusations of supporting the koreans/encouraging more korean manhwa's from being animated and challenging japan's own anime industry
@@project-th1rteen true, but what I'm trying to say is that, even though they might be intentionally doing it for publicity and Japan, either way, it's going to be originating from a Korean manga, thus supporting illustrators and writers to push for better Korean mangas so at one point, it rivals Japan's culture and anime.
@@jjhicky hmm i believe thats ok, because korea's dominating side is manhwa and japan's dominating side is anime + manga. it doesn't matter if theres a spike in readers of korean manhwa. as long as korean culture etc doesn't invade japan's side of anime and manga, leading into the invasion of their local media, it doesn't impact them badly for animating a manhwa
animation is probably gonna be a huge issue cuz art played a huge role in solo levelling's popularity. the story isn't all the unique, the characters are alright but the art is on a level of its own. the manhwa has some of the most beautifully drawn scenes i have ever seen in a manhwa. they released a new trailer recently and the animation is alright but its definitely not enough to capture the fighting scenes as well as the manhwa did. it would've been nice if they went with the animation style that was used in jjk s2 since it kinda matches the manhwa's artstyle but every studio has their own style ig.
Talk all you want whether or not if it’s boring if you’re a real fan you’re going to see it through as I believe that we’ve all waited long enough. I only thing that sucks is that we all read the books but some random people that happen to catch the show are gonna act like die-hard fans that have been there since day 1. That’s the most annoying part to me.😅😅😅 Not saying you can’t; just saying ou annoy me. “So callled Expert’s.”
American people watching the 100th anime where they are portrayed as the villain : ☺️ Japanese people when they are a villain in one of the manhwa:🤬 let's change the whole shit up
A1 Studios is not bad at all! Mappa is taking all the shows right now and ufotable is focusing mostly on DS right now. I think A1 Studios can nail the anime but other points are relavant
We really need to see The president of the Japan Association on his knees begging Gunhee Go for mercy! But with this if they try to get rid of their wrong doing in the novels and the manhwa, the it destroys more than Jeju Island arcs, it destroys what happens in Japan as well! I can wait and see, but changing his name and place of origin is so very wrong. Every instance dungeon he goes in will not be accurate to location. But we have to watch it people and judge for ourselves.
Very underrated and thorough video, I love it! Well done fr I'm going to be hyped nonetheless for this anime no matter what, especially since I am very into animation detail of action anime (for instance, I'm hyped for OPM S3 and loved the fight Saitama had with Boros). I don't pay *too* much attention to story when it comes to action-packed anime besides with ones similar to One Piece, so I'm mainly just hyped for the fight scenes and the beautiful animation.
Idk how I ended up here but that is just downright fkin sad. Some artists pour their heart and soul into not only making great art styles but coming up with a story that resonates with everyone on a visceral level and crunchy roll thinks, “hey this is popular. Let’s just throw it to some random studio and let them fuck it up so we can make some quick dollars” I just don’t get anime studios and why they crank out trash if they know it’s trash and they knew it was gonna be trash from the beginning
I remember my grandmother saying to me "I don't care what they tell you in manhwa and novels, Sung Jin Woo was japanese and his name was Shun Mizushino"
They changed the country , and that s really a disrespectful act especially for the Late DUBU , how could they change even the name of sungJinWoo😢😢😢😭😭😭 Even though I've been waiting for this animation till now, I still dunno how to react, I m just so sad of the changes
Solo leveling is at best ,mid. Simple story , bad characters (even when a good intresting character appears he is completely vanished after 3-8chpaters) and many plot holes.
I don't really agree the first 45 chapters were boring. Chapters 2-6 the lord there were very menacing and that's what made the start of the manga good. And the fight with rasaka was also pretty good but not different to other animes/manhwa. Ofc the mc would win against rasaka even tho he had nothing to help him he's the mc it'd be a bad manhwa/anime if the mc/mv would just die then and there. And the fight with igris would look sick.
Japan really holds the "Anime" Scene internationally so they really Japanized a lot of Korean based Manhwa which is sad tbh.... still might watch it...
I think they didn't choose either mappa or ufotoble because they already have some big projects with mappa having just finished chainsaw man, they are still animating AOT and they are doing OPM season 3. Ufotoble is doing demon slayer season 3 and their genshin impact anime adaptation sooo yeah

It was doomed for me when they decided to change the name of Sung Jinwoo, I mean come on. Can't even pronounce the Japanese name and even if I could I really don't like it.
Wtf why did they do this change? This is just ridiculous, is this the geopolitical issue related to the diplomatic relationships between JP and SK because of WW2? Like wtf?
This was my first manawha, my first thought after reading up to chapter 80 something as that was the most recent chapter was I hope anime never touches this. They will never be able to do it justice and we have alot of examples of anime destroying good manga as you mention goh
A positive is at worst this anime can be a bad dream, the man who is over save for a few side stories and the manga is so good you can reread it over and over and still be excited for the next arc or next chapter
I would prefer a slower pace. If done right it would still be exciting. I followed the manhwa and it kept me. However since there is a game coming out where the necromancy powers are on display, it's definitely the fast pace
wait if sung jin woo becomes japanese where does the giants thing happen otherwise how would he find and defeat the architect in time cos of the major level loss
I've read so many Isekai/power fantasy manhwa that it's the point where the main character's name really all sounds the same and doesn't even matter. This is blown out of proportion and just fundamentally won't be true. The only thing that be affected in Solo Leveling by an ethnicity change of the main character and the localization is the Jeju Island story and that was the most controversial portion due to the portrayal of the Japanese. I would be excited if the Jeju Island part of the story is changed and extended into its own arc. It was one of the more exciting parts of the story and the Japanese hunters (in the anime's case, some foreign hunters) needed a lot more screen time.
Changing an anime, making it different from the manga is sometimes alright but when you change too much people are gonna dislike it, I don’t see a reason to change the region. P.S: this is just my opinion

In the latest trailer, all the names are Korean and unchanged from the Manwha so I think it’s staying as korean

You just need not to confuse that as if it is a negative criticism without any thoughts behind it.

Appreciate the comment! Good to hear we're looking at a 20+ ep. run here.
You're totally right

I’m ngl, I was pretty angry at the fact that they changed both Sung Jin Woo’s name and nationality to japanese, because it’s disrespectful to the author who died a while ago. Its gonna cause problems in Jeju Island arc too, but honestly as long as they dont change anything else, we can still enjoy the anime because after all, it is the anime of Solo Leveling
the author didn't died rather the artist.
The only issue for me is the name change. If Sung Jin Woo isn't Sung Jin Woo then its just not the same. To me it's like completely changing the mc that I know and love, even if its just a simple name change
Tbh It took me like 100 chapters to remember his name . I'm not used to reading manhwas set in Korea so Korean names are still hard for me lol
Your issue is the name but not the part that changes the characters nationality that has the possibility to change the story the name won't change anything but him being from Japan will change parts of the story completely. Shits kinda scummy and disrespectful to the original author they don't need to change anything keep his story the way he wrote it
@@Allyfyn sung jinwoo is simply 3 syllables. solo leveling was my first manhwa but i didnt have any trouble remembering his name because i dont have memory problems
@@ockertoustesizem1234 the fact that it was your first manhwa is likely why you remembered it so easily. tbh I still don't remember his name I can only recognise it lol.
I don't really have memory problems I'm actually quite good with remembering character names it's just Korean ones I can't remember; they have such a different pattern to japanese ones which I'm most used to remembering so it confuses my brain.
A really key aspect of Solo Leveling was how much Jin Woo and the others loved their country. Now that that country is not Korea, it's just not the same, and I know this sounds stupid, but like-
Completely changing the main cast's identities and uprooting the Jeju Island Arc? What was the reason istg 😭😭
Ok so I wasnt even aware of why it was getting hate. Now that I know...well...has anyone see that one calebcity skit where he literally mimics the people who make anime adaptators of certain stories?
That is LITERALLY this...they didnt need to change ANYTHING so I also believe this will either be trashed, hated or just downright looked down upon
Solo Leveling is the manhwa that many people love. I don't know why they chose a Japanese studio instead of a korean one to represent the manhwa, and there are many good korean animation studios. Lookism is a good example, Netflix did justice to its webtoon and stuck to its origin.
ye but the animation of lookism wasn't that good tbh and for SL people are expecting god tier animations xD
@@fazn664 thats true, which is a little annoying sometimes. i dont think the animation in lookism was that terrible, i had enjoyed watching it regardless because of how they did a good job of sticking to the source material.
@@aenoty ye bro I enjoyed it as well even rewatched it a day after finishing it xD
True, I wonder as well why Japanese Studio would waste energy on this material.
Korean animations aren't common for a reason
Imo The ‘Most Boring Chapters’ as you put it, we’re some of the best. Sung Drip Woo became a Goat after receiving his powers but prior to him becoming the Shadow Monarch he was still an amazing character and the story was still great
i just watched the anime and checked if they changed the names and it looks like they didnt. plus about the pacing i dont think it really matters if the animations and fights are elite as the writing in the manhwa is pretty mid in and of its self just cookie cutter hype which isnt a problem. as long as the scenes are well animated and feels as much hype as the scene in the manhwa then i shall rest happy.
Here after it became 2024's most popular anime 💀
didn't really aged well
trailer just dropped and im so happy that yourewrong, they actually stuck with the original adaptation and just seeing reduce and chugong working with the anime, this will be amazing!!!
Also Japan isn't even shown as evil as such it was just Goto Ryuji with the chairman of the Japan hunter's association as most of the non koreans are depicted like that even some Korean hunters.
Exactly. Most of the hate is focused on the evil side of hunters. They're like movie stars corrupted by the fame and they become narcissistic.
But if you read novel you can see the author is racist to japan
@@dioerlangga4958 Japan is racist to korea in real life as well as many foreign ethnicities. It doesn't matter what the web novel says as such the manhwa or manga is being adapted not the light novel.
@GIGA says the japanese weeb
This one didn't age quite so well
This aged well
Nahh
It aged like milk lmfao. The anime is amazing
It is REALLY bizarre to me that they would change this to a japanese setting, particularly when God of High School seems to have pulled it off just fine in terms of setting (and yes, the last half of that season was a complete cluster)
Also, I don't know if I agree that only doing the first 45 chapters would be a boring first season.
To be fair, anyone except the MC that was on the jeju island gets clapped by Beru.
Your video quality is very good for only having 149 subs
im understand your point of view, very good video but we need to wait and hope the best for this amazing manhwa adaptation
Talk all you want whether or not if it’s boring if you’re a real fan you’re going to see it through as I believe that we’ve all waited long enough. I only thing that sucks is that we all read the books but some random people that happen to catch the show are gonna act like die-hard fans that have been there since day 1. That’s the most annoying part to me.😅😅😅
Not saying you can’t; just saying ou annoy me. “So callled Expert’s.”

Japanese people when they are a villain in one of the manhwa:🤬 let's change the whole shit up

Buddy this is me from 1 year future, it worked out well 🎉
I think they’ll either make a decently paced show with 20+ episodes or blaze through it in 12
alright but i have one question,
would you watch the anime cause i would even if i finished reading the manwha and i bet many other's to
A1 Studios is not bad at all!
I think the studio that'll handle solo leveling needs to see this video in order to improve their efforts
Pfft. Just be happy that it got picked up by a studio, you're not even paying them and you demand too much. lol

I'm going to be hyped nonetheless for this anime no matter what, especially since I am very into animation detail of action anime (for instance, I'm hyped for OPM S3 and loved the fight Saitama had with Boros).
Let’s just throw it to some random studio and let them fuck it up so we can make some quick dollars”
I just don’t get anime studios and why they crank out trash if they know it’s trash and they knew it was gonna be trash from the beginning

Yeah I thought I was the only one thinking this, but the anime WILL FLOP.

Why Koreans rely on Japanese Animation? This is a modern age they can make their own studio or produce themselves...
See, the best thing is to read the manhwa before the anime drops, i mean the art is so good and tbh i loved the story too
No 1 : Changing original story ...
No 2 : it's not gonna live up to the hype ...
Should have just made an independent anime
Because the thing is trash to begin with. Most people wont even make to ep 5 when they realize its just another trash isekai
Changing an anime, making it different from the manga is sometimes alright but when you change too much people are gonna dislike it, I don’t see a reason to change the region.
