lol i tricked u into watching a movie
Not if I immediately come down to the comments and post
Jokes on you. We tricked you into making us a movie we could watch for free.
How many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man!
psh like I wouldn't watch Adef: The Movie
You warned us of the length in a community post. Yet we have come. There is no trick, only treat.
Hello, Juggler Gregory here. I find your claims that a team consisting of a single Mr. Mime cannot get all eight gym badges to be highly offensive. With that said, I would also like to point out that I actually own five other Mr. Mimes, and they just happened to have been fainted when you ran into me in Victory Road that one time. And yes, before you ask, they all have the exact same moveset. You can't improve on perfection.
lol
you joke but let's go added an alakazam to his team so maybe that actually was just fainted
The man, the myth, the fucking legend.
I think that "fainted pokemon" in their party arguement could apply to every trainer that didnt get 8 CheckPlusses. With a little logic, could probably round out every team with a thematic pokemon and the game doesnt become Trivial, but do-able.
oh no, i just realized this game is so much luck, you COULD attempt this and just code yourself for max damage ranges, guaranteed accuracy, and permanent crits, with the opposite for your opponents because TECHNICALLY, each of these trainers COULD have had this level of luck.
to give the solo-mime a fair shake; ingame you get told that Sabrina *recently* became the saffron gym leader, with the other gym being the fighting Dojo. If Gregory went for badges when it was the Dojo and not Sabrina, THAT is a easy W
The 8 badge dream never dies, Mr. Mime believers rise up
On top of that, Giovanni wasn't at the gym. That means they faced someone else possibly making the level ratio off. This doesn't help mr mime specifically but it would affect everyone
I also believe he could have beat Sabrina with the correct strategy. Meditate and double slap on Sabrina's terrible physical defense Pokémon would have done it.
Did Rolando mug Professor Oak or something, how did he get all those starters?
He figured out what happens when two daycare pokemon love each other very much 3 years before everybody else
Next time I'm asked who ??? is, I'm answering Ronaldo.
Or maybe he just went and caught them in the same place in another region where Oak did. Or maybe they were handed down between generations from when they were common in the wild.
No that's just Kanto being weird.
He hopped the fence in Pallet town
Can't wait to see this for every other region
Your a sadist lmao
ohh yes
@@DragoCubX Can't wait to see Hoenn. I'm legit curious if Vito Winstrate can get it done like his family says, or if he's forever stuck in Victory Road
We need to be careful with these asks though. He needs to survive at least past Sinnoh
Can’t wait for the Johto edition (Johto Victory Road contains a rival fight and literally no other trainers)
Pretentious wine snobs is not where I was expecting "the couple accross the bar dig your vibe and want to buy you a drink" to go. Good save.
NGL I was hoping for something different…
So much joke potential left unexplored around teaching the Double Team TM to Nidoking and Nidoqueen. Especially when you remember that individual TMs can be reused through breeding in Gen 3, but also that Nidoqueen can't breed for some reason.
(I assume there's just some unspoken ban against evasion setup cheese, if it wasn't outright stated at some point)
Perish song isn't cheesy, it's strategy, it's one of that teams unique options
We the player also get the option of using perish song, why not these trainers as well
Not to mention the team is handicapped enough by being three underleveled mons including a Lickitung.
My man has taken the wolfeglick kool-aid
@@wolas321 Lol Perish Trap
Have I ever asked myself that question? No.
Am I gonna watch a 2.5h video explaining me everything in way too much details?
Absolutely!
Man the fact you did hard mode with Dawson instead of hitting perish song is nuts. It’s a move that he has on victory road so I think uses totally viable to use it on every mon
never been more hype to see a video length be two and a half hours
me when 8 hours of japanese goblin
Came here to say the exact same thing, brother. Couldn't have put it better myself.
technically the for the Mr Mime run, Mr. mime can learn metronome through an egg move, and the psychic tm can be relearned through the move relearner prior to victory road. So all you have to do is roll fissure for every gym leaders pokemon, then relearn psychic.
Using the level scaling rules adef used, this only works on the gyms where Mr mime's levels round up to be the same level of the gym ace. I don't know if metronome changes it, but when used regularly ohko moves automatically fail when used against a higher level target
@@TheRedVoyagermaybe he just leveled up to ace level for each gym but then got lucky psychic crits on giovanni
@@TheRedVoyagersimple solution: metronome double team and then dodge hits while you grab coverage
He could probably luck into calm mind/agility/nasty plot boosts with some recovery in between and beat sabrina without items, not that that would really count as a check+ given that it would require thousands of attempts
These teams are like personal preferences over optimal performance.
Your pokemon are your friends, and if they matter to you as friends, you'd probably not take them off your team even if it would make the journey easier.
These guys are actual champions when it comes to the power of friendship.
Do true friends let nidokings stomp on their friends for money though?
@@mopanda81 Maybe that trainer figured his tiny buddies would fight larger mons Dark Souls style or something.
Really fun idea and fantastically executed! This was one of the best videos I've seen in a while. From the challenge itself to the presentation, it all gets a Check+ from me! Scratched my challenge runner itch just the right way. Thanks for all your hard work! I'd absolutely love to see you tackle some of the other regions if you're up to it eventually.
Seeing one of my favourite challenge runners comment on one of my other challenge runners video is wild lmao
I think the only issue with the idea of these trainers teams is that it honestly makes a lot more sense to me, in all the games, that the victory road teams are just secondary pokemon that they're using VR to train in. Which would explain why they stay around and also why they would possibly have weaker or unevolved pokemon or with unoptimized movesets. For testing those pokemon and increasing their training.
Its also very possible that they have fainted pokemon due to being on Victory Road which explains why a lot of them have less than 6 pokemon, we're already seeing a weakened team like it is for us.
1:25:38 I agree that giving Surge double team is a weird call. Koga's entire strategy and gym lesson relies on using a strong defense with high evasion to slowly whittle down even the most offensive powerhouses, showing the use of slow bulky mons and pushing the player into trying X-accs or moves like swift. But Surge's strategy in Gen 1 has almost been "hit them so fast and strong they lose before they can use a move". Early Sonicboom, strong thunderbolt, but fragile pokemon that falter to even one good hit. Giving him double team seems oddly counter to that gym lesson from gen 1, and you have way less opportunity to play around it at this point in the game like you can Koga.
this is a question that kid me would've loved to see answered, great video!!! amazing as always
I can't even fathom the amount of perseverance that an undertaking like this must have required from you, adef. I've seen a few of your streams and you're not only a genuinely funny creator, but you've also made such unique Pokemon content that even an older Pokeman fan like myself has never seen anything like it. Just subscribing didn't feel like nearly enough to thank you for this amount of effort. I only wish I could afford to give more.
[Looks at length of video]
[Listens to the opening breakdown]
[Watches the subscription piece]
You know what?
Yeah, you earned it.
Objection! If a trainer's mon has 0 EVs, this obviously means that it did not participate in any gym fight
Ev lowering berries, they want high friendship with their mons, easy answer
Overruled, no trainers in this game have ev's.
Overruled! These trainers clearly just imported several tonnes of Qualot, Grepa, Kelpsy, Tamato, Pomeg, and Hondew berries from Hoenn.
To be fair to George, Arcanine, Cloyster and Exeggutor aren't random Pokemon, they're all top-10 BST Pokemon in Red and Blue. Not sure why the two Pokemon added to him in FireRed/LeafGreen were Electrode and Sandslash though.
Because Electrode can hard carry with that speed advantage and by adding electric to the team for the type diversity.
2:07:00 I like to believe that the way Nelson evolved his Kadabras was by him learning to do the really impressive thing where two people juggle objects inbetween each other, and that the pokeballs passing hands so much counted as trading
the goat has uploaded it's time to lock in
52:50 "no one should have to endure the mirror match that low-key sounds like a supreme court case from a country made up of only clowns. Mr. Mime v Mr. Mime" 💀
I love the dichotomy between your incredibly thoughtful and rational voiceover. Followed by the actual live stream where you make goblin noises and go insane. 2:21:14 explains my point perfectly
1:11:30 Just FYI, there are quite a lot of 'gym leader's pokemon' cards, and it is by no means a representation of the pokemon being good lol. There are even some cards that just don't reflect their in-game teams. Like, there's a Koga's Ekans for some reason.
Honestly, I think it'd be really cool if Pokémon included a bunch of "puzzle fights," giving you scripted teams and items to figure out how to win a battle or series of battles. Maybe even as a side story where you play through the events of a specific Trainer rather than your own character, if there needs to be an in-game reason behind it?
Considering they didn’t have 6 Pokemon, there’s a decent chance they failed the Elite Four and just gave up, deciding to train up a couple of their other Pokemon in Victory Road
Which adef says in this video...
You did NOT watch the whole video.
I did, and I might as well respond to both of you with this, the last part was the important part.
“ Considering they didn’t have 6 Pokemon, there’s a decent chance they failed the Elite Four and just gave up, *deciding to train up a couple of their other Pokemon in Victory Road* “
I was saying that there’s a chance that their teams weren’t their actual team, but rather their weaker ones
@@holyelephantmg8838 Which would also explain gregory's single Mr Mime, maybe that's all he needed to train up
Managed to keep my AuDHD brain fascinated for a full 2.5 hours plus, adef. This was awesome.
would've been me too if i wasn't watching late at night and had to fall asleep about an hour in, but hopefully i'll remember to update you on whether i stay fascinated for the remaining 90-ish minutes left once i wake up and watch it tomorrow
I would like to remind you that juggler Nelson wouldn’t make it as far as you did because he would have to switch Pokémon every 3 turns or risk a stroke from an identity crisis.
I just thought this would be an analysis of all the Victory Road trainers' teams from every game. I was NOT expecting this entire movie to JUST be about Kanto oml
This series is gonna be longer than LOTR geez
Im having the worst day of my life, and i really needed something like this from my favorite content creator, thank you adef
hope things get better for you ❤
Hope whatever you’re having to go through right now will pass over quickly🍀
Hey, if it's the worst day of your life that means it will only be better from here on out!
Sending you love!! You can get through this!!
I hope things get better, and remember that we're all rooting for you!
This is amazing!! I’m only a bit of the way into the video so far, but I think you’re a very great presenter, and I really love the level of detail in here. You do a really great job explaining the “bookkeeping” of the challenge, which is personally a part I’m very interested in, and I love the little details + annotations that you add to explain some of your comments!
Looking forward to the soundtrack of all your reaction soundbites form this cinematic adventure!
Incredible job, adef!
Woah, the Snap butts guys! 📸▪️
I watched all your VODs of doing this challenge, and it was a really cool experience to be part of the journey, I don’t think I’ve felt that with a youtube video before. I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while, and you really outdid yourself here, adef. You can really tell how much of a passion project this was. Be proud, man, this video rocks!
2:30 "oh yeah I guess you could just divide lvl 40 by 8 and use that for ea- oh my apologies I forgot where I was please continue with your proportionality =)"
This is a very needed thing tho, otherwise you would be way too low level for the early gyms.
@@Z3r0_t0n1n no right I get that but surely you can understand how I convinced myself that if anyone was going to figure out a way to beat Brock at level 5, it'd be right here
2.5 hour adef vid? This really is my birthday! LETS GOO
happy birthday!!!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!! 🎊
happy bday!
This feels like the most obvious question to ask, but somehow something I literally have never thought about before - thanks for what is so far yet another enthralling vid!!
12:24 Could you put a seizure warning before super sped-up sections like this one (or just one blanket warning at the beginning), please?
Idk if it helps, but just commenting to agree. This is a good idea
You know, it's a really minor thing, not even a complaint really, but during the solo Mr Mime segment all I could think was "he should probably change the battle mode to set so it doesn't ask him if he wants to switch to an invalid pokemon every time the opposing pokemon faints."
adef: If you watched this whole thing, oh my god
Me, who watched the whole thing: man, I want to try this for every other gen now.
Thanks for the great content!
I know you were ragging on the solo Mr. Mime, but Mr. Mime is strong as hell. Gregory didn't suffer because he was using Mr. Mime. It's that he was usually literally just Mr. Mime. Give this guy a second team member that is alright and Gregory makes it to the Elite 4.
I love the men I trust shirt making a return
My man just dropped a feature-length film like it's no big deal and I'm so here for it
Can we all just appreciate how much content is still being made on these +20yo gba games? A testament to how good that generation was.
Gregory was doing a nuzlocke challenge that was going REALLY poorly.
I’m gonna love watching this video go viral! Hopefully people go back and watch your other content cause it’s amazing!!
renting out the local drive-in for this one boys see you on the other side
That Ray and Tyra being unicorn hunters bit is incredible. Thank you so much
Its so cool to watch you go from speedruning, to being a part of GDQ and having shows on hotfix, to these insane videos you’ve been doing!
Let's not forget the Kyle Hill cameo he had!
for the elite 4 part: i really think you should have been more generous with the level limit, atleast match the lowest level pokemon of the enemy team, if not the average
We just not gonna talk about disable huh? Actually would elevate multiple fights from checks to pluses.
Ace trainer video from Droomish and victory road trainers facing the elite four from Adef today? Pokémon RUclips is spoiled this week
Watching you throw special attacks at Alakazam is painful. Oh I'm gonna use flamethrower. Nope, despite the base power difference the correct choice was wing attack. Physically frail. Always use physical attacks on Sabrina.
This is not a question that I’ve ever considered before but I’m now enthralled
Not gonna lie, I cried a little bit when you missed three hypnoses in a row against Starmie with Exeggcute and finally hit it with the fourth try, just to immediately wake it up with Uproar 😂
But still check plus, so it doesn’t matter
Hypnosis into Uproar on that Exeggcute is a bold strategy
bro using special moves against a +3 spdef mr mime was killing me
Cooltrainer George's team is crazy good, glad to see him win the whole thing.
Amazing video, thanks for your great work ! This video deserves 1M views at least
I'm half way through and I love this concept, and found a new respect for mimes. Great video man!
Since George got all five check+ on the Elite Four, level up his team again and throw him at Red's Mt Silver team in HG/SS.
When he whipped out the Gregory Mr Mime I remembered this was the top 2 mon in this game according to pchal so I knew he would be incredible.
Edit : Sad to see you stop at Sabrina, pretty sure you clear the gym with Shadow Ball (you can get the TM in the casino).
Yep, and after getting calm mind it solos the rest of the game as well
ghost is physical in gen 3, so it'd do dookie for damage on mr mime, hence why sometimes its worthwhile slapping it on normal mons since those tend to have better phys attack
@@lazarusajin Yeah but sabrina's mons have horrendous defense, and that's still better than double-slap.
I love the post commentary for the Rolando koga battle, its nice and focused, more engaging than the stream audio imo
But incredible video and incredible idea
I imagined this challenge to be WAY harder, assuming you would only add a team member once the trainer got to the point in the region where that pokemon was available. I'd love to hear Dawson share his story of how he got a Lapras so early in his journey
Found a wild one. They exist. Somewhere. The player just never finds any. Dawson simply understands Lapras ecology better than you.
Holy moly, thats exactly the kind of video i needed after an 8 hour ride back from poland. Just relaxing and fascinating at the same time, as FRICKIGN always. Keep it on going, love your content
awesome challenge and video! cant wait for the sequel "Who are the Guards checking each of your Badges and What are their Stories? (ft. Bruno Mars)"
the juggler nelson arc was peak
Watching parts of this on stream was so fun (my goat juggler gregory) and the final product is awesome, great vid Adef :)
This is my favorite video you've ever made. It has everything: comedy, tension, surprises, great editing, etc.
Don't forget that it's an interesting and unique idea that I don't think anyone else has done before too.
It's my headcanon that at least some of these trainers aren't actually using their best pokemon. These are just the Pokemon they're willing to battle the protagonist with, for whatever reason, like safety concerns, or that these are just the pokemon that they are training up. So like, Juggler Nelson probably already has at least one Alakazam, but these Kadabra need to be trained up some more before he wants to evolve them. Also, I bet both Jugglers have Electrodes for the juggling, but unlike certain other trainers in the cave, they've not crazy enough to use pokemon that could cause a cave in.
Anyways, This was a great video. I do think it might have been fine to have a non-linear curve for leveling, if a team struggled at the intended level cap, but overall, your methodology was overall probably the best way to do it for the video and your sanity.
Awesome work, as always
2 hours and 30 minutes of pure bliss
Hope you break 100k with this one dude. You put in so much great work for this channel you deserve it!
i never thought about the fact that he wasnt at 100k already, once you watch his videos it just feels kind of like he must have at least 100k
This only applies if you assume that they did the gyms as soon as they started as a trainer. There's a chance that they were all trainers before they did the gyms, so by the time they did the gyms they were already in the 30s.
You calculated the level cap based on having 6 pokemon, should have it be based on team size.
I’m willing to bet Giovanni doesn’t bring his A team to his normal gym leader duties. He wanted to crush Red. So maybe the 8th badge wouldn’t be that hard.
this is the most unhinged pokemon video ive ever seen. your content is fucking awesome
The only issue I have with this challenge is the assumption that the trainers were using the pokemon they ran the gyms with in victory road. There has been evidence of trainers swapping pokemon in instances where you fight them along your journey such as blue with his Raticate and N with his team etc etc etc. Why are you certain that the victory road trainers haven't boxed their main team or aren't just testing a new pokemon before heading to the elite 4?
N’s entire thing is he doesn’t catch pokemon, for his fights he uses pokemon in the local area. He’s a terrible example for this
And for Blue the only evidence of a swap is the ratticate being too low level to evolve… which is something incredibly common for trainers across the entire series (ghetsis hydreigon, lances many dragonites). It’s not sufficient evidence
You also didn’t mention Hop, who does change teams throughout the game. He’s the best example for this
@@teamfossil6312 So regardless if you disagreed with my examples you still understood my point and even provided an example you personally thought was worth mentioning. What a waste of a comment lol.
Because then there's no video? Like what smarmy Redditor nonsense is this lmao
"Ooh erm uh the premise behind the experiment you're running in the Game Boy game for ten-year-olds is not one hundred percent lore accurate this simply will not do my immersion is shattered"
37:28 imagine being that charmeleon and forever being forced into the shadow of that charizard you will never become
1:26 Mr mime is insane. I wouldn't be surprised if he could get every badge and elite 4 with just the mime
Seriously, the AI loves spamming status, mimien the mr. Mime basically guarantees Erika and koga are piece of cake. Substitute and encore break the game
This was incredible to watch. The Lt. Surge rants were top tier 😂
1:17:55 speaking from experience adef?
Best joke in the video
Dude. Really enjoyed the vid. Watched it over a couple of days while working around London. Big ups for helping me get through these long work nights.
37:19 what Gamefreak thinks everyone thinks of Charizard at all times.
Making the video was probably work, but these sound like some of the most fun challenges ever! Emergent gameplay mechanics as a way to devise an INCREDIBLY challenging set of research data for no other reason than to compile it. SO fascinating and so cool! It's essentially treating Pokemon as a field of research akin to recreational mathematics, I love it!
My guy, physical/special is important. Persian using Feint Attack against a Mr. Mime with multiple Calm Minds is not the play.
This video was incredible :) it even more surprising hearing you do it all yourself!!!
The vermillion gym puzzle is easily "solved" by saving after finding the first switch and a quick reset if you fail to find the second one.
I am begging you to do this for more gens, this is such an amazing and entertaining concept
I'd love to see a Pokémon inspired "roguelike" where at least some encounters are other players' runs, dead or successful. So if you beat a boss, and upload your run, your run is the boss for someone else at the same point. Dead runs are maybe between boss trainers.
never seen someone earn a follow harder.
00:33 my favorite show! Yo! gaba gaba! :D
peak comment
For blackbelt Daisuke against Misty and Erika the play should have been to set up focus energy and then spam karate chop. At +2 karate chop has a 25% chance to crit which would cause it to do more damage than low kick and ignore any defense boost that misty set up.
George's Arcaine had roar against Sabrina so you could have roared out mime to get rid of his calm mind. You then leave venomoth alive by roaring it out so that you can roar out alakazam if he starts setting up.
The level caps dont sit right with me and neither does the grading system.
It's fair to assume to level up more against a difficult enemy, so there should be a little flexibility in the level cap.
And as for grading~ for one, human error has an effect here. And two, re-attempting a lot is likely normal for an average Pokémon citizen. So number of attempts shouldn't influence the rating.
I'm a little surprised there wasn't even a discussion on if Naomi deserved a Check + for Surge given the Secret Power para.
I showed you my Constant of Proportionality, please respond.
(great video adef as always :)
but no smoke ball
The quality here is so impressive. Thank you for your hard work on Niche Pokemon stuff!
Using Uproar to wake up that Starmie after putting it to sleep instead of switching sure was a choice you made.
Just use save states when you find one of the switches at Surge’s gym. There is no way nobody in your chat wasn't telling you this.
Every single Gym Leader for every single Trainer is at least Check Minus, because you can just use X-Stat Battle Items and healing to sweep everything. Wouldn’t these items be available to these trainers?
Perish Song is legitimate and the fact that you try to avoid it is mind boggling.
Why aren’t you using X-Accuracy to counteract the double teams and minimize? Just save you and your viewers’ time by boosting accuracy and calling it a check minus victory.
1. Still won the fight
2. He's not using states at any point in the run, you see him actually save instead.
3. Obviously yes, X-items will let you stomp every single trainer. Across every person who does any kind of Pokemon challenge run, using items in battle (if allowed at all) are healing items, because X-items are just that busted.
4. Yeah I agree with this one, but he won anyway so it hardly matters
5. Because X-items are cheesy for one, and also I'm reasonably certain you can't get X-accuracy before beating surge.
I was planning on watching some of this and saving some for later, maybe multi-tasking while watching it... when I tell you I was RAPT at attention for the entire time!!! AWESOME work, adef!!!
That's where I am. I was going to stop after the first trainer and now I'm over 1 hour and 25 mins.
So you are limited to player based moves and tms, but not gamecorner tms, berries, or hold items.
Pokemon isn't linear and nuzlockers usually use gym leader level cap anyway.
It sounds weird to say "play better", but you could consider different strategies like "stop poisoning your entire team" and "maybe use a status move"
Not only did I watch all of it, I watched it in one sitting!
Great video. +1 sub
