    THIS is what a true Miss America is. And there are many like her out there in our hospitals and clinics that are also winners - even without the pageant.

    • @toilettduckk
      @toilettduckk 9 лет назад +9

      It would make the pageant a lot more interesting. After all, does the woman who represents the best the U.S. have to offer really need to be an accomplished entertainer? Why shouldn't she be someone who can speak intelligently and eloquently?

    • @philxdev
      @philxdev 6 лет назад

      yeah well isn´t that a discrimination of dumb people? seriously.. they try to pull a liberal bs on all and forget that there are people who simply cannot speak intelligetly and eloquently but are still good people.. this whole pageant stuff is a load of crap and the whole process is open for manipulation.. they told "save the whales and world peace" ever since they introduced the speach as part of the pageant and rehearsing the crap out of this one to tell people exactly what they want to hear and what sounds the best isn´t quite the "accomplishment" they try to portray with this changed format... now they just focus less on skin and more on "lies and fairy tales" ... if this was all so non discriminating.. where are the ugly women who really made a difference in peoples lifes and helpf many many people with their good deeds or their business achievments? Not saying beautiful women can´t and won´t , in fact every women has the potential..

      You are a true Angel of God. 5 years is a lengthy time to take care of a loved one. I spent 2 years with my mother, I would drive 2 hours each
      way to her house to take care of her on the weekends to give her caregiver a break. The hardest part was knowing I would lose her soon. I am
      still mourning her 12 years later, but she comes by every so often and pats me on the shoulder. Your dad will do the same for you. You are doing
      the Lords work and God will bless you, just keep praying for strength and He will come forth in more ways then you know.

      +Thomas Erlandsen you grew up with some good nurses. But you need to ask them if they ever came across nurses who were just there for the money and could care less about the patient. Or better yet go into a nursing home and ask some of the patients which nurses they like and why. I have run across plenty of both types of nurses. Lucky for my patients I know them as who they are and not as what they have.

    Miss Colorado’s heartfelt talk about her nursing experience was truly moving. It's not just her outer beauty that shines; her compassion and dedication illuminate the beauty of her spirit. A winner in every sense, no matter the outcome of the pageant.
    The transcript is possibly wrong a couple of places. At 01:01 she probably explains: "he would tease me about being the only nurse on the unit that can reach the goods on the top shelf. It was a lot of laughs with Joe."

      +feliciannurse I have always held nurses on a tall pedastal, but one late night in a hospital two years ago, sealed it. I was in to my second day there following open heart surgery. I had no family to come, and only two visitors in the 7 days I was admitted. My head nurse, who was finishing her shift, stopped in my room to check on me, and to tell me she was leaving. I'm pretty much the "I'll do it myself" type, but this night I just wanted company. I asked her if she would set for just a minute, until I dozed off. The next morning, nurses told me that she stayed for over an hour. You could not have chosen a more honorable profession. Thank you.

    My mother was in hospital for 5 days this year, one thing I learned is to love the nurse because they love you. This woman is what I saw, someone who does everything to help. Everyone today, hug a nurse, they're the best of us, also hug a Doctor and a EMT/Firefighter and yes, even a Cop. They tend to help us when we are down.

    this was by far...better than what the others call entertainment...Miss Colorado actually expressed feelings and thoughts without copying popular songs or showing off skills...She came right down to a need that we all will share one day...LOVE...and it showed from her presentation...The women on the 'View" cant relate to working class people....and therefore have to try & demean them or make fun.... I hope the old gal on the View has to publicly apologize for the uncaring remark she made concerning the contestant...this only shows her jealousy and contempt for the contestants...Shame on her.....!

    I have been that Nurse for 37 years.... I have had those patients just like Joe.. But maybe not just her speech , which I found very caring she was setting a dialogue for Alzheimer's and setting a platform that maybe she would have supported if she had won... All of the others set platforms for opera or violins play.... Maybe "The View" should have touched on the many of millions of people some in their field ( Glenn Campbell) who are suffering as well as the family members watching their loved one slip away... To me, you and I are not "Just A Nurse" we are the hands, heart, brains and for some the only family members these people have.. And I am very proud to be a NURSE.. This woman is the most real, sincere, honest, normal Miss America contestant I've ever seen.....and SHE gets mocked? The only thing I can say is..there is something very wrong with the women on the View...

      I know! And then they said that they didn't know she was a nurse, that they thought she was in costume doing a skit... How many times did she call herself a nurse? Total idiots. The shows seems more like a bunch of catty stay at home moms gossiping about their neighbors than actual intelligent ladies discussing something that people want to hear.

      +Elizabeth C I don't think they could be stay at home moms. That job requires too much intelligence for them

      +Twirling tutorials They weren't mocking her based on the fact that she did a monologue (which is considered performance art, which was approved by the pageant runners), they were mocking her *as a nurse*.

    I don't follow beauty pageants at all. I would have never come across this had I not learned about "the view" controversy. I'm really really glad I found this. This story is an inspiration. She is amazing! I've never watched the view, but fir as much as I hate what they said I'm almost glad they said it and started such an uproar. This made me cry.

    This is very true, and really defines what it's like to be a nurse. As a nurse I feel this connection with a lot of people. I'm not a hospital nurse, but I am a rehabilitation and long term care nurse. My difference isn't always about helping my patients get back to a normal life - I am their normal life.
    It's not about knowing just their health issues and how to treat them, but also about knowing how they like their coffee. It's about knowing their favorite candy, and sneaking them a piece and lending an ear or kind word when they need a little encouragement. It's about knowing their life story, and having a connection with them and their family. It's about being there to listen to the patient that they said would never speak. It's about standing with them through the good and the bad. It's about being there for them and their family when it's time to let go, knowing that you too will need to let go.
    Nursing isn't simply about healthcare, it's about making a difference, big or small. If I can put a smile on the face of my patient or make them laugh, everything else pales in comparison.

    Wow! She showed that talent doesn’t have to be an overly entertaining performance… It can also be making a big difference in the lives of people and touching them. There is nothing wrong with normal talents but, I think it’s wonderful that she showed how much of a talent it can be to help others! What an incredible role model!!

    with a mother who has alzheimers I have witnessed the early stages and living through the final stages. I get why many would not understand what or why she was saying what she did, but it touched my heart and I only hope you don't know this disease but if you do you will understand and appreciate the care she gave Joe.

    As a nurse, sometimes it does get hard...especially when the patient don't understand what you are doing and that it's not your fault you can't be there after 1 second he called or make him do all the things he want. Some are disrespectful, and after all the sacrifices, I do ask myself "did I choose wrong?" , but then THAT patient arrives. They recognize your worth and how much you care. Thank you, patient. You are my strength

    i love love love nurses...they have such an exhausting, difficult job, always on their feet, endlessly having to meet the demands of patients who are never satisfied...whenever i am a patient in the hospital, i make sure to be as little trouble to the nurses as possible. i try to never call them in, i try to take care of myself, and try to be as pleasant and undemanding as I can be. in any case, any nurse reading this, when you nurses are not only very nice and nurturing but very pretty, well...my heart just melts for you. i want to marry every single of you sweet angels :-)
