More specifically, we're talking about which city upgrade you should get given a specific circumstance. Park should have some kind of alternate effect and maybe even the super unit reward should be reworked like make it a choice between 2 different super units instead of park vs super unit
Thought it would be nice if you could pick old upgrades you did not get before after getting the park too!
Yeah, parks are kind of pathetic and they need a buff.

Well park is clearly for Perfection, although that mode is much less popular so I still feel like it should do something else
I think it's important to mention that you should never use a city wall against a cymanti because their poison removes fortification bonuses.

Most of this advice is for small 1v1 maps...dynamics are quite different with big FFA maps
- Explorer is almost always best in big FFAs, because there are so many tribes you can meet (+++stars)
- Make sure to invest in climbing before exploring which makes explorers WAY more efficient. Just one extra tribe spotted can pay for itself.
- In big FFAs walls are very valuable, especially for cities in the center of the map. Safe cities like on the edge can go for the star bonus.
- As mentioned by GullYY border expansion can mess up your neighboring cities. I find it best to time border expansion to avoid squeezing too many tiles out of your smaller cities.

Defense definitely is more important in FFA
Nah walls suck in FFAs, whats more valuable is usually getting a giant asap and getting walls instead of res puts you a turn behind. If you know you are going to get sieged then and only then should you make a wall.
@@galadrootfs9397 Fast giants are certainly valuable in FFA's, but it takes a bit of tech and econ to get to giants. Walls buy you critical time and deter armies from invading your territory. The opportunity cost of a wall for cities in the middle of the map easily pays for itself.
@@AaronSmith-sx4ez Not everyone will attack you. You will probably only have a few enemies and you could just send embassies and peace treaties to everyone else. Walls just arent good unless you know you are going to get sieged.
They should add other effects for garden to make it more usable
Yeah, it could be for example be passive growth for the city, 1pop per 2-3 turns depending on which is more balanced.There is definitely a lot of other potential with it too.
Picking a park over a super unit now gives you 1 additional unit for that city. Simple but effective change
@@adamsukowski4074 make it 1 pop every turn for 3 turns most. It's just basically a cymanti fungi that's part of your city.

One thing to mention is for Explorer, if you’re ever playing on a tiny map with a few people on the board, it can be worth taking the explorer because the initial star boost provided can be useful
Finally someone who doesn't suggest putting a workshop on every single city

The latest update where parks now increase star gain by 1 balances the choices for the last one. I often find that if your opponent is swarming you, the extra star income will be more useful in keeping up with them, rather than a super unit that gets killed in 2 turns, especially if the city being upgraded is far away from the front line

Can't remember the last time I got myself city walls. I only use those of the bots lol.
I play crazy AI with big maps and max opponents frequently and city walls are VERY beneficial in FFA games. They not only buy time for you to tech/econ up, but the increase the chance that neighbor X will attack neighbor Y because they see your wall city as too strong. Once neighbor X and Y go at it, they will both leave you alone which gives you a huge advantage. I only go stars, if the city is on the edge and pretty safe (such as buffered by other cities).
@@AaronSmith-sx4ez If there is a map choke point wall could be very good as they have no more potential for expansion and you can freely walk into the other villages left.
ayo that warrior-giant push was epic and you get an extra kill with that knight
parks nowadays work a bit more like a workshop as well as giving a couple hundered points. i just think that if you are already far enough into the match that you have that option, then most likely you are already getting a lot of stars per tern and one extra wont make too much of a difference. everyone has their own preferences though and can do as they please.

I feel like I've been playing this game all wrong I didn't even know up until now poly topia had RUclipsrs
The front lines should have border walls. Usually, depending on the size of the map, you’ll see where the opponent is able to encroach. If you lose one of those border cities you’re loosing all of the stars.

Hm... I hadly ever think about city walls.
I've had an idea for the park upgrade where it will also additionally give 3 population every 3 turns(i think a more frequent occurence like 1/turn is too prone to "saving grace" situations) to make it like a "super late game" giant generation option.

I love the game but here are a few things you need to add to make it worth 5 stars
1. Please add a feature in creative mode and pass and play games wher you can choose exactly which tiles go where (so that you can play or share your custom seats with your friends).
2 please add a settler unit under free spirit that can set up military bases or workshops that produce stars( this would be awesome when I play online with my friends)
3. make it so that you can disable the screen where you have to click start to start your turn in settings this would be amazing when I am playing with peace treaty's in pass and play with
my brother.also make it so that you don't have to see the other players turns in pass and play,online (not live games though) and single player.
4. Add might and glory to singe player and domination,perfection and infinity to multiplayer.
If you could do make all of the changes this would easily be the best game of all time and the money I spent on all the tribes would be worth it.

Just wondering do you still take challenge video suggestions? Most of them are from years ago.
A true giga chad would choose walls for every city to intimidate the opponent and assert dominance
I play crazy AI large FFAs and this actually works. If your neighbors aren't attacking you because they've calculated they can't take your city, they will attack a weaker target (each other), which gives you time to tech/econ up.
I only upgrade parks in domination to challenge myself further (but not if the enemy has 50 battleships attacking me)
3:08 the two veterans can siege the walls city... So yeah, city walls ARE useless for the most parts (only exception is isolated skirmishes)

New challenge: play a match against a bot without levelling up any of your cities

Got a video idea, been done to death in other genres but haven't seen it done on polytopia.
'Spin the Wheel'
Spin an online wheel that has a few small challenges, maybe stuff you've done before mixed with new ones. I'm ngl I'm kinda retarded so I can't think of many off the top of my head but stuff like
Only Cloaks(only Cloaks and daggers can siege)
Only Taking the Wrong City Upgrade(easy, just take the opposite of what you should in that situation. Taking an explorer over workshop, taking city walls over 5 stars or vice versa)
Only _____(same thing as cloaks but different unit you choose)
Obviously you'll need more, but it's a cool idea methinks
you should have mentioned that when you capture a village your tec cost increases

Take walls if your strategy is more defensive take the coins if you're attacking.
