This guy is one of the most criminally underrated actors of al time
Agreed
So true
💯
"URSULA! IM NEKKIDDDDDD!!!"
He is the narrator for some videos about ancient history Greek/Rome on a channel named 'Arzamas'.
Also criminally underrated as a narrator.
I’ve started saying F*CK OFF a lot more after this show. Thank you Brian Cox. It works like a charm.
It makes me feel more alive.
It's very satisfying, isn't it.
Nigel Turner SURPRISINGLY satisfying. And much better than witty comebacks.
Same 😂
i started saying Asshole a lot after watching Rescue Me...
How come this man completely terrifies me on his show and then he just makes me wanna hug him during this interview??? He's like a sweet grandpa
He said in an interview he was worried about Kendall’s actor because the method acting seemed so intense that he was worried for his mental well being. That’s when I realized he was actually a grandpa deep down lol
Like “if santa was a hitman”
He has such a strong screen presence especially in Succession. Perfection is the word.
Totally agree!!
I first saw him in one of the old X Men movies. Colonel Stryker. Dude was menacing as hell.
Such an insanely well written and acted show. Its like Shakespearean machinations and Sorkin black humor. Love it. Can not wait for season 3
it's an insult to compare this to Sorkin. This show sucks! It's boring and ALL the characters are unlikeable.
Randy Monster lol i think that’s the point of this show, no one is like able, an that feels so...incredibly authentic in their awfulness. And I said, the humor is Sorkin-ish in tone, but the show on its own is a different beast entirely. I may not agree w/ you, but I respect your opinion.
@@randymonster4105 it's actually much better than sorkin lol
With all due respect to Sorkin, this show has better writing
@@randymonster4105 I see where you are coming from, but you are meant to hate the characters. Them being horrible and awful people, somehow is what makes the series really interesting and engaging
He nearly played Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones!
He would've done great as Tywin but Charles Danse is obviously in the same league as Brian Cox is. Maybe in another world Cox played Tywin where Danse would play Logan.
I could definitely see it. Logan is very much like Tywin
I like how danse is leaner and taller than cox. Gives tywin a more .... Actual killer vibes
Did he really?
He's a great actor and all but he's not tall enough to play Tywin (and he also doesn't really look like a Lannister to me). Dance was just too perfect for the role (it was almost like he was peeled straight off the pages of the books). If there's any character in GoT that Cox would've been the best fit for it would've been Mance Rayder IMO.
Logan Roy is a bastard, but some how I still love his character
Dana5018 C me too
Great writing and great acting is why
ThatOneAsianBroChick If he’s based on Murdoch his family had money and his father owned newspapers. Obviously not the amount of money Rupert has.
BOAR ON THE FLOOR
Because of this man, not logan fucking roy himself
A great actor and a tremendous ambassador for Scotland.
Graham Cooper. Who lives in America.
@@maxmullen6337 I suppose it's a pre-requisite that to be an ambassador you could, or even should, live outside you own nation.
Graham Cooper. He’s so proud of Scotland he doesn’t live there.
@@maxmullen6337 I'm proud of being Scottish and of Scotland, and I don't live there. The two are not intertwined!
@@GlasgowCelticBhoy Precisely. The unfortunate bitterness towards those who seek overseas success - that a small minority of Scots have - is extremely puzzling to me. Always has been. I'll never 'get' it. Why not cheer others on and take pride in their accomplishments and shared heritage?
Brian Cox is not underrated by people who loves great perfomances. He's underappreciated by the Hollywood industry. He should be in the leagues with the great ones of all times, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, De Niro
No he just sucks.
@@nicolenewsome4863 He'll be remembered far longer than you or I sweetie.
@@nicolenewsome4863 lol wut
@@ElroyMcDuff and that's supposed to break my heart? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@nicolenewsome4863 Nope, just keeping it real. =)
I'm glad Stephen name-dropped Manhunter, very underrated movie. Anthony Hopkins might have made Hannibal Lecter iconic but Brian Cox played him with a nuance and 'normality' which is actually true to life and much more chilling.
I fully concur. I love Hopkin’s performance but Cox’s Lecter was no less chilling. So sweaty and calm. [ _shudder_ ]
I so agree!! I remember being way more uneasy watching him. Hopkins was a thrill to watch, Cox was an anxiety-inducing ride.
Absolutely agree.. great flick, great performance. It's also closer to the book's description of Lecter's affect with Will.
@Henri boy Some fictional characters are more worth-while and inspiring than many current living ones...
@Henri boy If you fell the need to be so scathing over a RUclips post that's not offending anyone (except you apparently) maybe you need to be reconsidering who's the delusional one here.
Brian 'the actor, not the physicist' Cox is an excellent bad guy on screen and an excellent good guy in real life.
Initially i thought it was the physicist, then i saw the thumbnail.
At least when I watch a lecture by the physicist I feel I have learned something. I haven't been to a movie in decades. Peace
Also not the Brian Cox from Glasgow who was arrested for shoving a pakora up a policeman's nose.
Wish Brian Cox the scientist actually had some balls and would go after world religions and pseudo science instead of discussing how things in a fantasy movie are not accurate and looking smug.
True that
The fact that you can simultaniously want to have a beer with Brian Cox and bury yourself in sand at the sight of Logan Roy is just amazing. Top tier actor.
Brain Cox is an awesome actor, and seems to be an amazing person with a good sense of humor.
Don't forget Agamemnon in Troy !! He has played some Iconic roles indeed.
Shrivas one of my favourites of his roles!!
Yeah thats why im here because of troy
@@timbuktu777 “ Careful lad , my mercy has limits”
Also the uncle from Braveheart
This man is criminally underrated. Such a great actor and voice.
No he just sucks.
@@nicolenewsome4863 Prat!
Ooh, please🤮
@@lindakachur4862 agreed.
Do you think you are doing favors for your idols by telling the internet world that they're underrated?? Because, kiddo, in their own minds lodges a far different outlook of themselves. Grow up.
"We live in ludicrous times"......
Nuff said, Mr Cox. You are SPOT ON !!!!
So instead of rewarding Brian Cox’s fine performance with an Emmy this year... we’re rewarding the cast of Game of Thrones for the umpteenth time. Sure, yeah 😒
Not necessarily, the final season was a letdown on many fronts
cazia9 Lets face it; it’s going to win everything. If Season 7 can win Outstanding Drama Series, then I see no reason why Season 8 won’t.
Haha!
What a slayer...! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I was thinking the same thing. Him and Kirean should be nominated.
Succession was robbed this year.
He was the voice of Death in Good Omens :-)
Oh shit yeah
WAIT YEAH
He was the recipient of the "Exceptional Contribution to the European Cinema" award at a small, international film festival, in my hometown, Subotica (and its suburb, Palic, after which the festival's name is Palic Film Festival), Serbia, last year. He is one of the biggest artists ever visiting Subotica... And now it's so interesting to see him in New York, sitting with Stephen... 😅
That’s super cool
Brian Cox was bone chillingly scary as Logan Roy! Magnficent actor
Love from Scotland Mr Cox ❤🖐
SO happy that 'Succession' is returning this weekend. Love this show!
I just finished Season 1 yesterday and i had no idea it was returning in the same week, great news!
Smartest and most witty show airing right now. That dinner in Hingary was worthy of Stalin.
Season 2 ending is too good! I only guessed seconds before. Best thing I’ve watched in a long while from the geniuses from peep show and will Ferrell involved it’s little wonder! Not sure I’ve ever binge watched as hard and feel so anxious for season 3!
I'll repeat your comment, since it has become quite relevant again^^
I'll watch anything Brian Cox is in. He's amazing.
So you hate Johnny Depp?
He’s the reason I started watching Succession. Loved him as Hannibal Lector!
Fun fact : Brian Cox voiced the Director, Lionel Starkweather in the Rockstar survival horror game Manhunt in 2003. He did a great job playing the deviant evil sadistic bastard Starkweather, really made you want to hunt that man down haha!! Really glad that game was rereleased on PS4!! Any fan of Brian Cox & Rockstar games should definitely play Manhunt 🔪 😲!
Well said mate.
Wow! Had no idea it was him, made me appreciate him more!
Dundee! Dundee is the underdog of Scotland. Lot of great people from Dundee.
Lots* There! FTFY ☺️
wasn't Andrew Carnegie from there?
@@hugonongbri8100 Dunfermline
@Amélie Vouteau He does have a soft Scottish accent in this interview. You can definitely hear it in the inflection and pronunciation of certain words. There's a lot of diversity within Scottish accents, not all accents are as strong as a Glaswegian accent.
@Amélie Vouteau that is a Scottish accent 🧐
Hands down one of the best actors of all time. He just killed the role this time.
Chatted to him in a queue at a fish & chip shop in Dunkeld a couple of years ago. He’d been fishing but no luck - hence the queuing!
One of the finest actors I’ve seen.!!! It’s incredible how lovely he is in real life, absolute contrast of Logan Roy! He is that actor from Broadway stage who plays so excellently and charmingly some of the greatest Shakespeare’s roles and leaves you absolutely speechless..
Lovely? He a jealous prick!
@@nicolenewsome4863 as Logan Roy yeah
For me he is always going to be either Stryker form X-men or O’Hagen from Super Troopers. This dude is gold
He's fantastic in long kiss goodnight
Give me the goddam soap!
Ward Abbott in Bourne Identity/Supremacy.
Eat the soap, Rookie!
He’ll always be Hannibal Lector to me.
Its a relief to see him smile!
Whoah, that's the guy who trained Geena Davis to be an assassin in The Long Kiss Goodnight.
“You’ve done a few Shakespeare “ bit like saying to Martha Stewart “you’ve baked a few cakes”. One of the greatest Lears of all time.
Protect him from COVID at all costs
He already caught Covid. Didn’t even know he had it til he got tested and they found he had the antibodies
Such an amazing actor, unreal job in Succession. Love this man
Brian's pause before answering whether he's like Logan was my favorite part of this...brilliantly played lol
It gave me a chill!
Season 3 of Deadwood. Jack Langrishe. Never forget that performance. Wow.
"Americans. It never occurs to them to try the window."
Brian Cox is such a sweetheart
He also taught William Wallace how to speak Latin and French, and stole Achilles' girlfriend.
He was also the original Hannibal Lecter.
And I think he was Boromir in two LOTR adaptations
@@UltimatumNo5 That was Sean Bean
@JediNxf7 WRONG. Paris stole his brother's wife. Re-read your Homer.
Man hunter is what the Red Dragon is. Cox was Hannibal and the dude in the original CSI was who Ed Norton played. O.O yep
He is channeling another role he mastered in the 1970s series The Devil's Crown as the great and complex Henry II.
Just watched the Season 3 premiere and I'm happy to say that this show is as good as ever. Looking forward to more!
One of the all time great performances. The perfect role for him.
Absolutely love his narrations as well
I know him as Daphne’s dad from Frasier !!
Really? I never saw that episode. I'll have to search for it. Thanks for mentioning it!
That was a good arc.
Wonderful actor and the most lovely man. Great performance in the Bourne Identity films. Succession is excellent too.
Brian Cox!!! One of my All Time Favorite Actors!!!! Truly Amazing!!!
I love Succession, amazing show very interesting and the cast its just great
Kudos and top marks! Excellent show! One of the greats of our time!
3:08 that pause, this guy knows how to make comedy.
GIVE HIM AN EMMY
Brian Cox is an amazing human being and actor 👍🏻
Such an incredible actor. First love at first sight when he played Hannibal in Manhunter.
Yes!!! Same here!
Funny he mentioned Achilles' heel because he also played Agamemnon in the movie Troy! ( Featuring Achilles)
As an Australian I would humbly apologize for Rupert Murdoch. Has any one man done more damage in the 21st Century?
You also gave us Nicole Kidman, so apology accepted!
Michael Flynn George Bush and Tony Blair?

.@ThatOneAsianBroChick Hold on..
He's ensured his longevity.
He's not dead and not even bedridden, just yet.
Can’t emphasise enough on how Brian Cox is literally the perfect casting for this character
Enorme actor y sin dudas se luce en esta serie excepcional. Aplausos !!!! Lo amoooooo
It's a shame they never discussed Brian's other masterpiece TV prog set around empire and big business, Bob Servant. Brilliant!!
Succession is my fave show of the year! Thank u writers, cast & crew!
so happy for this dude!!! a powerhouse actor
Colbert: "Please tell me you're nothing like Logan Roy"
Brian Cox: *"Fuck off"*
he’ll never beat his role as the Rushmore principal
Dr. Guggenheim!
Why would he need to "beat himself" anyways?
That's psychotic!
OMG! the transition @ 3:03 from brian cox to logan roy!! what an actor!
So good at what he does - what more can you expect. Frankly I've never met a Scot otherwise - and a Scot was my first boss. Brilliant actor.
He also played Ed Norton's dad in 25th hour, great film.
What a lovely guy!
An absolutely sensational actor and a true force of nature in Succession
he’s so sweet i’m crying
I'll never, ever forget him in "Manhunter." Astounding work.
Yes! Not taking anything away from Hopkins, but I always thought Cox had an excellent take on Lecter.
brian cox gives of really cool and sweet grandparent vibes. logan roy gives of psychopath vibes
Brian is a great actor, and my first film as a kid I remember going to the theatre with the family, and watching Braveheart when I was 10. My mother didn't know my grandparents took us to it, but it showed the brutality of war. And how violence it isn't the answer to fight your brothers.
He has performed roles on an epic scale, and plays minor ones with the same effort as well. Super Troopers was a tiny budget that turned out to be a sleeper hit. And Brian even stayed on for the 2nd one. Brian was a living god in the 1st one, and it wouldn't have been a Super Troopers film without him. Thanks for keeping me entertained for the past 25 years :)
Succession is DOPE! A great Show with great actors, portrays realistic human relationships and it builds each episode with such virtuosity that is self-explosive!
I have enjoyed Brian Cox ever since I saw him in the Sharpe series of movies. Great actor.
His time working with the Hadron Collider has aged him terribly.
Bwahahahaha!
precious gem!
Brian Cox was also, albeit briefly, in Braveheart, as Argyle Wallace (William Wallace's uncle)
A fantastic actor 🏴
Banded songs on banded instruments
Brian Cox is so underrated. He was also Agamemnon in movie Troy. Amazing guy.
Great Scotsman🏴
He was Agamemnon in Troy!!
Love him, love the show👍
Saw him three years ago at The lyceum with Waiting for Godot. And I loved him in 'Adventure in Space and Time'. Marvelous actor.
Fist saw him in Manhunter and then later found him voicing in the game Manhunt.
"They're going to be screaming your name boy, mark my words!" - Lionel Starkweather.
Great actor great show
All the Best actors are from Scotland
I loved him in the Super Trooper's movies.
My favorite performance of his is in the 25th hour. Especially his narration at the end...
MY MAN FROM MY HOMETOWN!!!
I LOVE THIS SHOW..ONE OF THE BEST ❤❤❤❤❤👌👌👌👌
so cool that one of my favourite actors is from my wee home city :)
He is so LOVELY!!!! Just shows what a phenomenal actor he is to make me hate Logan so much
Brian is an amazing man
GREAT SERIES! Great Actors!
One of the greatest actors of all time!
I cannot unhear the Scolar Visari in his voice, such an incredibly talented man.
He's an awesome actor. Top of the heap. Everything he's in, he's great.
he's an amazing actor
Great Actor! Big fan!
Anyone notice how his accent became LBJ’s voice when the topic came up at the end?
Intentional or not... wowzers
INCREDIBLE job in Deadwood, too. No one ever mentions him in Deadwood.
The song the played for his intro is like a variation on joyspring. Cool.
Interesting tidbit, while Cox was playing Hannibal Lecktor (not sure why they changed the spelling) in Manhunter, Anthony Hopkins was playing King Lear, then when Hopkins was playing Lecter in Silence of the Lambs, Brian Cox was playing King Lear.
