Jeremy has no experience playing the talk show "game" and that makes this interview infinitely better. The guy has zero interest in giving gimmicky, cute answers to make the audience giggle and tweet. He responds to every question with loads of depth and thought, and you could see it influencing Stephen to sort of drop the comedy act for a bit and just engage Jeremy intellectually. Superb conversation.
I think he’s a lot like his character in succession. His body language screams socially awkward.
I really hope he stays this way as his fame and interviews continue!!

Agree, and though not the same words, i pretty much just said the same thing.
I can see why our number one boy doesn't do these talk shows. He's too intelligent for most of these talk show hosts. His answers are so thoughtful that Stephen drops the gimmicky nature of the show and seeks to have a genuine conversation with him. One of the reasons why both these men are so great at what they do. Fantastic interview

He has a genuineness that we rarely see in hollywood these days, I’m absolutely enamored with how he carries himself during interviews like these. I hope he plans to do more soon. Jeremy strong is one of the most commendable and kind actors of our generation I truly hope he gets more recognition and roles soon.

I think he’s a great actor and I really liked him in succession. But I also think he’s a lot like his character in succession… First thing I noticed was how he walked out on the stage with his hands in his pocket. His body language screams socially awkward.
@@HH-gv8mx it’s because they are filming succession season 4 at the moment so he is probably trying to stay in character it’s kind of his method a lot of actors do it

stephen was the best person to break jeremy into the talk show world. no one else has his level of emotional intelligence, empathy, and wit. jeremy would've been miserable if he had interviewed with jimmy fallon or jimmy kimmel, so it's a blessing we were able to see these two in such a vulnerable and deep conversation
Totally agree, what an excellent and thoughtful interview that was. He seems like a very genuine person, quite serious but with a keen wit and good sense of humour Reminds me a bit of a young Leonard Cohen. 👍
I think the only other person who could've successfully interviewed Jeremy Strong is Sean Evans from "The Hot Ones."

The tenderness in Strong's eyes is just astounding. What a talent.
His awkwardness is really appealing. Often stars come on these shows and they have a rhythm and patter, a facade. I get that it's necessary and that they are selling their brand but just seeing someone act like a real person who's slightly uncomfortable is relatable, refreshing.
Wow. Have we reached the stage where awkwardness is appealing? Listen, nerd may be appealing in a science fair or something. When a nerd comes to a talk show this travesty of an interview is what happens.
Little did we know, his best performance yet is "talk show Jeremy Strong." He became the character.

Jeremy is so inspiring, really. He's not afraid of silence, he fidgets, he stutters and he's ultimately honest. I have severe social anxiety and seeing someone being so unapologetically raw and "weird" still managing to show his brilliant intellect is so so inspiring.
The way he's not afraid to show how uncomfortable and surprised he is with the unplanned questions is really inspiring too. I'm neurodivergent and often I struggle to express my concerns and struggles.
He's so confident while expressing his insecurities. God! I love him so much!

This started off as an interview but settled into a conversation that we had the pleasure to hear. I really enjoyed listening to Jeremy share his thoughts and heart! And I respect Stephen for showing honor to him during their time together.
And, as always, Stephen has the chops, the depth and range to go with, give space to whomever he's talking.
And I would add that Stephen's skill and smarts at interviewing/engaging guests in conversation are what allowed Jeremy to agree to be on his show, wanting to promote the movie he feels strongly about, and also seeking to be "safe" w/ the interviewer. Only Stephen can do that, IMO. And Yes, well-done!

Bring Jeremy back as often as humanly possible please. This may be the most intelligent late night show interview with an actor I've ever seen. Mood was different, and for the better. It was, like i said, intelligent. Giving this one to Jeremy. A pensive, profound sweet man, who set the tone for what these types of shows i wish could be. One guest, one hour - I'd watch that with people like him. But also kudos to Colbert for connecting with that brilliant cerebral energy of his, which we were lucky to catch a glimse of. Makes me want sit somewhere and have tea with him all day.

I've never seen Jeremy Strong in anything, but his reluctance to do the usual actor-y promotions had me intrigued. When he answered "either a hummingbird or a mote of dust in a bookstore," he made me an instantly dedicated fan! 😍

As I watched him, I was pretty afraid I was the only one in the world who hadn't seen him act. What a completely stunning person he seems to be.

His honesty about being dedicated to the craft reminds me of how Adam Driver always redirects questions about himself toward what he does rather than who he is.

@@lb5368 respectfully, I also was apprehensive about watching succession because I assumed it was just all business and corporate corruption and at times it is that. However most of the screen time is absolutely captivating and heartbreaking family drama. It's a show about trying not to become your parents and failing, and hating and loving your family at the same time. It's just the best show I've ever seen besides maybe the sopranos. And of course Jeremy is the star of it all. Definitely worth a try.

Watching Stephen use his knowledge of the craft to open Jeremy up and relate to him was quite beautiful to watch. Pretty masterful.

Not only is Jeremy so thoughtful and brilliant, but Stephen reminded me of why he’s the best talk show host out there. He doesn’t just laugh inanely like Fallon, he has thoughtful questions and real dialogue with his guests.

What a great job, I thought this was going to be so awkward being Jeremy’s first interview and I was so pleased that Stephan handled it with care (I’m very protective of Jeremy Strong lol).
There were even a couple of times Stephen gently "coached" him a bit, maybe trying to alleviate Jeremy's seeming anxiety. A really great few minutes of interview. Genuinely.

Colbert is an educated actor. How lovely to share the moment of genuine surprise at them both knowing a Steppenwolf luminary. Stephen is great at identifying without trampling. Jeremy has suffered many blows in the press about his Method ways. Stephen offered him an opening for speaking about that vilified process with humility and care. Yay Stephen. Yay Jeremy.
That Emily Dickinson poem continues, and it's so amazing. It ends: "The truth must dazzle gradually, or every man be blind."
I love all Jeremy's references in this interview, listening to him speak is very enriching

I agree. I feel like critics and journalists are sometimes overwhelmingly negative towards him but people absolutely love him. He has something very honest and appealing about him that’s rare, even in everyday life to find, let alone in Hollywood

It's so cool to see Stephen being comfortable with just having a genuine conversation about art with Jeremy instead of forcing in a cringey joke every 5 seconds. He actually respects his audience enough to stay engaged listening to a straight-up interesting dialogue.
This is one of the best conversations disguised as an interview i have ever seen. What an interesting person. And you can see that Stephen is a little star struck and really drawn towards him too. Just awesome!

@@michael-4k4000 i think you have absolutely misunderstood the show and what it's trying to say. First and foremost the show is about the cycle of abuse and generational trauma in a family. This family happens to be one of the richest and most powerful families and the show does a great job and a point of showing the emptiness and devastation that amount of money and power brings. Succession is truly one of the best shows I've ever watched.
Now that he's doing interviews we know what we'd been missing out on, dang. what a great talk. I've grown as a human just in the past 15mins. Also thank you Jeremy, for relaying to Stephen how the majority of us feel about him doing the public a great service by telling the slanted truth and not just jokes

That profile was awful. I didn't think we'd ever get another interview out of him again after that. I think the fact that people Jeremy admires like De Niro and Cox like talking to Colbert helped him feel comfortable here.
Michael Schulman exposed such a vile side of himself by publishing a piece of that nature with that timing. That's some god-awful karma. May the payback be powerful -- to his heart and reputation.

Jeremy Strong: a complex,, genuine, brilliant, generous, lluminated, beautiful human----which matches his truth as an actor.
It's SO refreshing to see an interview that's an actual interesting conversation and not some fluff piece to garner favor of the audience. His serious nature and distaste of "entertainment" forced Stephen to do a proper interview and the output has actual weight and value. You can't just bullshit your way through a conversation with Jeremy Strong - he's too smart. He brings gravitas without being a jerk. I'm glad he's doing a publicity tour so people can see the truth behind that New Yorker piece.

I LOVE Jeremy's interviews! It's delightful hearing his thoughts. He has a way with words and he's very knowledgeable. It's nice to listen to someone who's so genuine and passionate about their profession :)
One of the best tlssc interviews in the recent times. I think both Stephen and Jeremy were talking from the heart with very deep thoughts.
I came here from a reddit post saying he was awkward in this interview. But he came across as an intelligent, serious, introspective, and genuine person.

For the first time a Late Night Talk show felt like a Hollywood Reporter roundtable discussion, only difference being Strong carried it alone. What an actor and what a brilliant person.
His answer to what moment Is Succession meeting is so poignant and I love that he had the balls to be that honest I feel like a lot of people would not give such an unfiltered answer

I love listening to Jeremy show a side of acting that's very honest and heartfelt. Stephen quickly became comfortable as well and we got to see that other side to him as well. The artists who really love the art.
Kudos to Stephen & the producers for being accommodating and deciding to basically do a podcast instead of the typical tv show format. Doing otherwise would restrict Jeremy from being himself and best representing the movie (which, as Jeremy said, was his main purpose behind doing this interview). Looks like Jeremy had a great time and it resulted in one of the best talk show interviews I've ever seen.
