    I bought one today. Just fishing for purchase validation lmao. I can't wait to use it. It seems to be as magical and playful as the 24.

    In my opinion, the photos from the Sony look much better than the recent Leica SL2s review that you did.

    Oh man! I remember that NEX review!! I would read your reviews over and over just trying to make a decision of what system to invest in straight out of film school. It helped me choose Sony in the “A” Mount all those years ago, but also, I got a NEX 5T lol! And I’m still shooting Sony professionally thanks to you Steve!! Cheers from Cali 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽📸

    Nice review Steve.I'd love to see a video/blog post comparison between this & the Voigtlander 40/1.2 for looks & rendering. I LOVE actually using the Voigtlander & have been so torn on a Sony/Samyang/Sigma AF 35mm for a while (I mainly shoot woodland/landscape but AF for family/dog portraits whilst out would be a God send!) BUT I don't want to own & go out with both lenses. I have pre-ordered this GM to try but it will have to replace to 40mm I think.......

    I actually got the Zeiss 35 f/1.4 because of your review from the past. I'm still super happy with it. Did you feel the same magic with this new lens or did you enjoy yourself even more with this sony lens?

    • @HiFiHuff
      @HiFiHuff  4 года назад

      Well, I had that lens for much longer. Three days with the GM was not nearly enough to truly use it enough to appreciate it. The GM is smaller and will have faster AF. As for IQ, I can not say for sure unless I had both side by side.

      I just sold off my 35ZA yesterday to replace it with this new 35GM.. been using the 35ZA for over 5 years now. It is literally my go to. At F1.4 the ZEISS lens just magic.. however I make the change because I really needed something lighter and smaller.. On paper.. the 35M beside it being smaller and lighter.. it does not have the onion ring bokeh that the ZEISS does.. and in term of sharpness and resolution.. 35GM is better as well. The GM also AF faster and able to AF nearer.. the MFD is nearer. But whether the rendition and able to get the magic of Zeiss at F1.4.. I dontknow.. that gotta depends on individual too.
      Personally I think if you're alright with the size and weight and onion ring of the Zeiss at f1.4.. then there is totally no need to change. for me i used 35 literally for everything and sometimes walk with it on the camera for 12hrs a day.. So.. I made the change.. (To add on.. infact at some point i even considered getting the RX1... but that thing is F2... But it's darn light and small though.)

    With reference to "street" photography; would your first choice be the Sony 55 or the 35mm that you just reviewed?

    • @HiFiHuff
      @HiFiHuff  4 года назад

      I could use either. With the 35 you will be closer to your subjects, with the 55 you can be farther. With that said, and the fact that both can be used, I believe a 50mm is the best lens for street, personally.

    Steve, if you were going to give me a choice between this lens and your 'wild' cat, I will have the cat please. It is so cute with that loud meow!... :-) But seriously, this lens is good and I was thinking the rendering was like OTUS and Leica APO combined

    I think 35 FL is boring, but this lens is finally right,. Sharp, not too heavy, minimal vignetting, awesome star bursts, and priced right. All other 35s were just weak, but especially the distagon. I have a inexpensive samyang 35f2.8 and it gets the job done for me, but I use my 55f18 and my 14t3.1 cine and my 24mm more often than the 35mm. 35mm is just plain as vanilla. As far as super 35, this lens would be pretty zoomed in.

    • @Biosynchro
      @Biosynchro 4 года назад +2

      Vanilla isn't plain. It's a delicious flavour and a delicious scent as well. Plain would imply flavourless.

    Steve, from your photos this lens is totally soulless and out of character. Which is not surprising being that is a Sony lens, and it’s more aimed towards utility than character or art. But I would definitely take a Sigma Art any day. Good review, sir. Hope you’re all good and stay safe

    • @Biosynchro
      @Biosynchro 4 года назад

      It looks smaller than the 35/2 SL. However, I think Leica is forward thinking and there is a good reason for why their SL lenses are so large: they're made to cover a bigger sensor.

    • @maheshg212
      @maheshg212 4 года назад

      @@Biosynchro Maybe, but I don't intend to buy a bigger sensor camera so the bigger size is unnecessary for me. If I wanted bigger sensor I'll buy a camera available with that. I'm not sure that's a wise strategy.
