- Hey Guys,
Here is another detailed video of my step-by-step guide to mastering the tumble turn, or as some people call it, a flip turn.
I've been teaching these for years and have noticed that some clients find it pretty overwhelming at the start, which is why I have broken this video up into stages.
Don't move to the next stage until you have comfortably mastered the previous stage. Also, don't be concerned if you get some water up your nose one the first few tries...that's normal. Just make sure you are blocking your nose or blowing air out your nose as your turn.
So try out these tips and I'm sure it will really help you improve or learn the tumble turn.
For even more tips or to dramatically improve your swimming fitness check out my 8-week, detailed swimming programs at:

Level 1 = 600m - 1.5km
Level 2 = 1.5km - 2.5km
Level 3 = 2.5km - 4km
I'd love to hear how you go with these tips, so please comment below so I can check in with you guys and also let me know if you have any questions.

👍Make sure your blowing air out your nose as your flipping because if water flows into your nose it will sting like if you gotten punched in the nose.
😊😊
Do you know any tips on how to still have breath when you are doing the dolphin kicks?
That is my dream 😂never able to só farm 😢
@@Ella_Playzzz don't exhale powerfully, just slowly.
@@katherinelunagate157 thanks
I have watched more tumble turn instructional videos than I can count, and this is the first one that told me everything I wanted to know. All the details I needed were either shown well or explained well, or both. From the arm position on the flip to the dolphin kick at the start of the turn to the feet pointing slightly to one side, I finally feel like I have a good chance of getting it right the next time I hit the pool. Thank you for making this..
Same! In fact I've just realised why I end up going too deep after pushing the wall! 😅
The bit that really help me, was the butterfly kick! Thank you. I can now reliably flip turn.

This is very informative and instructive with possible errors to avoid. Great, Thank you.
Not extending legs early was a GREAT tip. I always wondered why I go to the bottom of the pool when I push off the wall.
In admiration! Keep it up please!! It's the way to go!!!
Very informative; thank you.

Best swimmer in my eye
Hi rice~ I am big fan♡
Your videos are very very nice👍👍
這是非常棒的示範影片 步驟很清楚
Thanks
she makes it look so easy!! two tips I noticed that I'll try is a. the dolphin kick to start the flip and b. both arms are 100% at her side when she starts the flip, which means her arms don't really move but end up in streamline after the flip... this looks really nice!
Yes that’s such a good point you noticed. The dolphin kick makes it a lot easier to flip over. Did that help you?
Thx! Great explanation!👍🔥 Greetings from Egypt!👊🔥🇪🇬🇪🇬
Gracias saludos desde Bogotá Colombia 🐯
Love it
The underwater dolphin kick is really beautiful! 👍
Very good
Wow very nice i have a few words in English but i get it all... i think😄thank you
Like an art. Perfect turning.
Would be helpful with a 50% speed to see every details.
I love you Stephanie
이것은 매우 유익합니다.❤
I’ve noticed she takes a breath facing forward! Good idea x
Pretty good but doing a flip stationary is completely different to doing one moving.
I always teach to flip with a push and glide first to get the momentum
So cool! I’m not able to do it, it’s my headache:)))
This video was very helpful. I watched a lot of videos about flip turns, but none mentioned the somersault stage 2 technique niether the dolphin kick before the turn.
The dolphin kick REALLY helps to flick your legs over, have you tried it??
I’d never heard anyone mention it either - will give it a go!
perfect swimmer
beautiful
very respect
que lindo...sei fazer, mas ñ fica bom ainda
❤
Because of this I know how to do a tumble tern
Please Upload more videos of Swimming and your vlogs...Stephanie You post very less videos... Love from India 😘
You are such a beautiful swimmer Stephanie Rice

Stephanie, do you blow bubbles through your nose when doing tumble turns?
Definitely I believe. The water goes up to your nose if you don’t blow bubbles. Or else you can use nose clip to avoid it.
As a swimmer, yes you have too. Trust me, it’s incredibly painful if you don’t blow bubbles. The water goes very high up your nose and it’s burns so much!
@@Nishka_M Yeah when it happens to me I can’t focus on my form because my brain feels like it’s gonna explode.
But if blow from nose , even then water goes in my nose and feels in head.
You should bubble when u do a flip turn. If you don’t the water will enter your nose, so u have to avoid it by bubbling.
In the exersise you use your arms in the front, but when you actualy do the turn you have your arms in the back.
❤ beautiful. sadly for me, i am unable to do this maneuver, which basically precludes my olympic opportunities as a less than amateur swimmer at 50 something :) but seriously, spinal damage has me lucky to even be in the water. that said, i am wondering if there is even a remote chance of an open turn matching speed wise a tumble turn in a racing situation? my wall push offs are terrible and weak and not lengthy, my dolphin kick is lame, in the truest sense of the word in that it has to be subtle motion at most (damn it, spinal damage), and although my surfer body paddle torso can have me delusionally 'competitive' in the lane, i get beat at the turns and underwaters. are people even allowed to open turn in freestyle competitions? hmm. well. again, no olympics for me anyway, so, whatevs i guess :)
TUMBLE TURN!!!!!!!!!!!
👍👍👍👍
I think she is the best swimmer coach…
Tried this today and yoh my goodness😢
No mention of water running up your nose? How can you omit something so important?
Now I can show my swimmer friend tumble turn is ezpz

simple somersault in the water - as if that was so easy...i just can't manage that bit, always come up sideways
Me too but now getting there. I’m finding doing it faster and more compact helps.

Funny that, on the last turn, she doesn't even use her arms to rotate herself, which was the first step to begin with!
How she teaches it is not how she is executing the turn
Thanks
