Foldable Intubating Chamber

Endotracheal intubation is a procedure that a tube is inserted to the trachea to give
breaths. This is done with the assistance of a laryngoscope. This procedure carries a
high risk of contamination with patient’s saliva, phlegm and other secretions even
blood. Specially in COVID 19 patients this procedure can spread the virus to the
surrounding area.
There are already intubating boxes or chambers designed for this procedure. But they
have some drawbacks. They are heavy and bulky rigid boxes. Because they are rigid,
operators hand movements are limited, making intubation difficult. Difficult to
sterilize for re use, occupy a bigger space when not in use (specially in places like
emergency rooms with limited space this is a problem). As difficult to store in a
closed chamber there is risk of contamination with dust and other germs.
This new device is made using a plastic or an iron or similar material frame, and a
flexible transparent sheet of material like polythene or similar nature. It is foldable
and light weight. As it is made with transparent flexible polythene material, it is easy
for the operator to use arms in a wider range than the conventional device. As soon as
the procedure is over, it can be folded and put into a sterilizing solution straight
away. It is very easy to store as well due to the foldable nature.
