- 2022 Lexus IS 500 review by The Straight Pipes. The Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance Launch Edition is putting down 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque from a 5L V8. At $77,650 CAD, would you take it over the BMW M3, BMW M340i, Audi S5, Audi RS5, Lexus RCF, Lexus ISF?

I tried Truecar for the IS 500 and no dealer wanted to participate lol, neither did Costco’s program
Jakub, what size Continentals did you get on the ISF
Jakub you know you miss the is F, You should buy is500 from US since its way cheaper... I agree its better and worse but its nice they made a new version but also keeping my ISF price up is a win win
@@timw2083 whatever the stock size was, I went 1 width wider. I forget exactly but I think it was a 235 front and 265 rear (assuming 225 / 255 stock)
I own a IS500 launch Edition. Sold my 2021 STI for it. Man I love this car V8 rwd ftw! Major props to Toyota for making a N/A V8 sedan.
Very pleasant surprise given that nearly everyone else is ditching NA V8s for turbo 6s
@@CentralJerseyRailfan The mid-late 2000s was a great time we had the following natural aspirated sport sedans: M3, RS4, C63 AMG, ISF, G8 GXP, Infiniti M45 & CTSV.
@@CentralJerseyRailfan I don’t think it’s that big of a surprise . They have been puttin NA v8 in Tundra, Sequoia. And then Lexus has their GX and of course the GS F. What is a bigger surprise to me was them finally producing an FI engine with that twin turbo v6 they are using right now
@@TeeWadeG I see…my point was having that engine in entry level sport sedans that are favoring less cylinder turbo routes lol
Enjoy your badass car that will have 80% resale price after 10yrs
First the GR Yaris and now this .. the last hurrah of ICE! Such a shame we’ll never see cars like this again
In my opinion every major and iconic car maker should make one last hurrah car before the ICE goes extinct.
(╥﹏╥)
I don’t get why we can’t just have both. The politicians put their money into electric and don’t wanna lose it
A hydrogen retrofit for the V8 is possible. Only has water vapor as an emission. Still is in testing. Older motors can have their injectors retrofitted.
I got fired from my job because me & my 50 year old Co-worker almost fought and It got toxic yo so now i smoke weed on my RUclips channel now, meanwhile i get back to the hustle smh😔
It’s not a last hurrah it’s a new golden age! Electrification still does not have technological advancements it needs to replace ice both in longevity and amount of distance able to be covered and also recharged. No body is going to want to keep having to buy cars every 2-4 years because the batteries degrade. This will cause even more pollution and junk yards crammed with cars that otherwise would have been fine if they had an engine.
I've always loved Lexus' center stacks. Everything just looks so mechanical and high quality.
kinda boring tbh
@@alalal123421 nah you just never drove one 😭
@@alalal123421 thought that too until I owned one, really simple and everything you need looks more driver focused and it’s perfect for the type of car it is
@@gurk1rt Says the guy who still drives an old ass Lexus. Friend bought an RC350 F sport, fully loaded. Outdated tech compared to the 3 Germans. Infotainment is too busy and the center stack has too much open space plastic.

@@AcurAEX I think in 2025 we are getting a electric IS sadly
They still might give as an IsF either a TTV8 or SCV8 then go full electric
@@paolowalters4462 that would be so damn good, I seriously can’t wait for it will put up my house for a TTV8 IS
@@paolowalters4462 depending on how well the IS500 sells, they will make a new twin turbo V8 for a new ISF
Awesome review!!! This car is on my short list! I'm already saving the manuals, and I'd love to have a V8 in the stable as well! Kudos to Lexus for this! I also agree with Jakub, the IS is a perfect balance for a sporty sedan, I said the same thing for my IS350 review. I was SO impressed by it!
I just recently purchased an ISF and I absolutely love mine and it's so good to see Toyota/ Lexus give you reliable power even if these engines are relatively older
NA gorgeous japanese v8, RWD, LSD, awesome gauges, comfortable seats and ride, reliable drivetrain, 4 seats, touch screen infotainment w carplay, amazing exterior styling, quality interior.

I have a IS500 and have been waiting for this video as long as I waited for the car!
The ISF review was the first video I watched of yours, and for the past 3 years I've owned my red ISF. Still in love with it as much as the day I bought it, very glad I decided to go for it back then because like you said, 3 years and 20k+ miles later, it's probably worth more than what I paid for it
ISF first hand depreciation is crazy man... but if your bought it second handed though, that's a whole different story...
Thank you guys for knowing to warm up the transmission first! Virtually no lag. Other reviewers complain of "laggy manual shifting" but don't bother warming it up..
So it tightens up after? I’m liking this car and want it, but I have anGLA45 which ha,Mets down with a sweet DC trans and wouldn’t be happy with the trade if the trans is as bad as some say.
Nice review guys, keep it up!
Straight pipes thanks for another long awaiting review. Great 👍 review.
Owned a 2015 RCF for 3 years. Sold it summer of 2021 for more than I bought it. I regret selling so much as it was the best car I’ve ever owned. When the 5.0 is gone we are going to with more of these were built and bought. Mine had an rr-racing exhaust on it which sounded amazing. I have a track day vid from Road America on my channel.
Hit the buyer up talk to him
Just recently bought a 2008 ISF matador red mica black roof...with 55k miles...love that car..condition is imaculate..
A review I've been waiting from you two
Loved the positivity and love of the brand in this video. This GREY IS500 looks so well. We don't get in ( UK ); Boo
You’re not missing anything; plenty of better European cars. This is the same boat of a car for the past decade & Toyota just squeezed a larger engine into it.
Not exactly a boat, 3800 pounds even with a big ole V8 and bigger wheels and tires than a standard IS. With a naturally aspirated v8 and rwd. Truly an amazing car
@@krasnaludek298 yes. Much I know. Problem is this. I loved my ISF and especially the engine and care less than this model is the 2014. I’m not a performance driver and love the engine ( engine note ) therefore it’s perfect for my modest needs. I also rate the brand dislike the Germans. It’s my kinda car.
@@krasnaludek298 The same reliable fun car you’re absolutely right.
@@krasnaludek298 european cars aren't reliable anyway lol
Love this car just ordered one, not a fan of turbos on a DD. This was perfect
I have a 2021 300 awd and dropped an aftermarket exhaust on it. Mannnnn the sound of these naturally aspirated engines are insane! Sad to see them go from here on.
One of the best and factual review of the IS 500!!! As an owner of this amazing car, I can say your review is SPOT ON!!!
The man. The myth. The legend. Wthrman2
These will be the next Japanese unicorns.. the F line ups are just really under appreciated as everyone just compares them via performance to their competition. Yes they are not faster than the competitors but they are fast enough and unique.
Love that you guys finally got to review one of these especially since Jakub has owned an F before.
Wanted to chime in and say, when you guys said you'd turn the ASC off, that wasn't actually fully-off. When you turn the dial down, it stops at a minimum volume, if you will, and then it will "click" into an off position. I own an IS 350 and have sat in an IS 500 and it's the same way. So if I had one I'd probably turn it off right away.
I am with you guys on the Incognito color, I would much prefer the metallic Cloudburst Gray.
It's commendable that Lexus actually lets you turn off the fake sound
Lexus nailed it with the design 👌
I was waiting for your review!!!
Been waiting for this one for a while now!
Japanese V8 sound is something else, man!
I'm a simple man, I see IS500 and Straight Pipes... automatically push play
I agree the Incognito doesn't do anything for me but to each their own. I love my IS500, "old" tech and all.
Most "new tech" is complete gimmicks and arbitrary anyways
Finallllly the one I’ve been waiting for !!
Hey guys, I’m driving this very car now to write a review on. It has 7,000km on it now, and it’s held up well. Interior is still mint, but some exterior body nicks. I’ve fallen in love with it too despite the dated interior and lack of tech,, but I like that it has none of that auto start stop BS. The seats are comfy and that V8 is a gem.
Just found out about this car this weekend! NOW I NEED TO BUY ONE! 😍
Man, I remember that 50k burnout. Now almost 1.5 million. Nice job.
I’m happy with my 2008 IsF 05/50 Special Build, but this one is definitely pretty cool.
Finally the IS500 review, NICE! It sounds so so good.
I have a 2016 350 F-sport and these new refresh models look really good on the road. Having them add the V8 is dope! Throw on some 255/275 summer tires and this thing will be solid on the streets
I had a 2016 IS 350 FSport before upgrading to the IS 500 a month or so ago. I too loved the look of the redesign, but couldn’t justify getting it.
….until the ‘500’ was announced! 😎😜
isf will run 295/315 go big or go home cuh
Keep the V8's alive!
That car is beautiful! Every Lexus shd look like that. Awesome car! Awesome reviews fellas!
Was torn about if i should buy one, after watching this, immediately put my deposit down for the 1 of 2 currently for sale in ON! Picking it up by end of month!
5:12 Just a lion roaring every time you rev it; amazing
wish they sold this in Australia, it would have been my next car. The highest spec we got was the is350 before it got discontinued down under
Reasonable chance it could be eligible for import ex-Japan in the future though
great review! I was considering a red IS500 but an opportunity came up and I was able to get a very rare 2014 IS F in red =)
Jacob, your ISF was so clean!!! Such an Iconic car.
"The best cars have already been built and they've kinda rebuilt the best cars sort of but worse."
Dang... I felt that...
Brake hold, sport +, trac in performance mode. It launches great
The IS500 isn’t a Lexus F it’s F-sport performance, but you guys addressed the first thing. Appreciate that to help people out
Been waiting on this vid
because of this channel, i got Continental all season tires for my Accord! :D
Awesome 👌
It'd be great if you guys could start adding the mpg/kpg on these cars as well when you announce the horsepower and torque numbers.
They used to all the time. Dang, I never noticed they stopped doing that
holy shit lmao i never realized how much the channel has grown. I was here for the element burnout at 100k lol

Lexus car's has an amazing look, incredible!
It needs an exhaust to open up that V8 more. One of my dream cars is a Lexus ISF. It’s amazing how they’re still going for $20k plus
Lexus builds quality cars, so it's no surprise their value holds. My relative has a 94 LS, all original parts!
Very late reply. But buying a Lexus sports car means that you will need to upgrade the exhaust 😂
I recently had to get rid of my 14 is350 and even though it wasn't an "F", it was still a fun car.
Great review fellas. Fellow Slav…Ukrainian here. I just finally took delivery 2 weeks ago and am LOVING it. In the US here and feel the value is great too. Cloudburst with red interior. That combo pops and we get a rear sunshade as well. Traded in a 2021 TLX ASpec SHAWD. Could’ve had a good deal on a TLX Type S but I really wanted something less bulky and heavy. Build quality is superior as well. This thing is a little tank and understated as well. Stays really planted and handles great like you said. You really feel the weight of the Acura and too much body roll for my liking. Cheers!
Come for the car review, stay for the IS history lesson
FUTURE LEGEND 😎👍🏻
Wow watching from Philippines 🇵🇭. Thanks guys.more vid to come.
Everything about it looks so clean and put together

We're in the last days of the V8's bois, Idc which company you buy a V8 from just buy one and treat it like a weekend vehicle!
I just ordered a 2022 Mustang GT with all the bells and whistles in a manual. I’m going to drive that fucker to the ground. And when it blows I’m going to rebuild the engine or swap in a new one. This is the end. I wish I made more money so I can buy both this and the mustang but I chose the 5.0. Cheaper, manual, and faster. But damn the is500 is beautiful.
Lexus IS for the win!! Great video guys.
Absolute best car I’ve owned. Going to begin modding soon.
Beautiful car and damn does that v8 sound amazing!
idc what anyone else says. you get toyota reliability from a NA V8 and has way more than enough power for the street-AND luxury brand. win win.
F*** yeah i've been waiting for this video!
A shame there is no capture that exists that can truly show the beauty of that body line on the back doors. This car looks so much better in person!
So purdy in that color 😍
Sweet engine, but for that price it's unfortunately not competitive. Under the skin it's almost 10 years old, and the tech and quite frankly the entire interior is lagging far behind the germans and cadillac
what would you buy instead?
@@ThatBigCactus m340i, S4/5, C43
Hell, a Dodge Charger even
@wristoww yeah I agree but the only difference is the toyota reliability, if you want more performance then yes you are correct, and the interior could be slightly better. But you can't beat the reliability
I think you should include some nighttime clips in the videos, especially for the headlights and taillights, not the entire videos but some clips
The Element burnout cracked me up 😂 That Lexus is badass
I live in Europe, and this car is banned here. Yet this is my dream car, I've been watching videos on it for weeks. The perfect sleeper with a dream engine
Why? and do You mean just this type of Lexus? Or the whole Lexus line?
@@Drskopf Because in Europe we have many many taxes if you buy a car with a big engine. For exemple we have Lexus RC-F with the V8, but you have to pay 40.000€ to the government to have one… same for Audi RS3 or many other cars with a big and powerful engine. (Dépend of CO2 / per KM)
We have Lexus in Europe but only in hybrid…
@@Drskopf Europe gives very very expensive fines to manufacturers if they have too many polluting models in their range, which is why in Europe we have almost only hybrids now
@@conkervideo Damm you missing the party, Lexus will start to sell their products in Mexico this year.
I’m surprised it isn’t faster for having a 5.0 V8 in a compact sedan. Anyways, still amazing and shocked that Toyota would do this.
Sounds great, looks great, plenty of power, comfortable, reliable, not trying to be the sportiest car, it's a great creation. Last of its kind.
Lexus Nailed it with the new design.
just wish it had the same fender/sideskirt design like the original.
Would still love to have this alongside my 11' ISF Tho!

@Marietta Leticia Yeah My first Investment with Logan Willie gave me profits over £15,000 and ever since then I trade with him and it has been a good turnups
His success stories are everywhere 😱
My first investments with him profited me $40,000 ever since then he keeps delivering. Sometimes I wonder how he manages to do it.
I really wish they would've made the body look more special/beefier like the ISF. personally I'd rather have an ISF. The ISF has such a bigger appeal to it. When an untrained eye sees and ISF they know it's something different and badass. you know it's special. This is500 just looks like a normal IS to an untrained eye. I'm taking an ISF all day long. The true beauty we won't see again.
I saw a new black is500 today at the dealer and fell in love. I currently drive a 2022 rav4 and it gets horrible gas mileage with such little power. I get 251 miles on a full tank. I rather have the power if I’m gonna get so little range 😂
I just got an is250, glad to know you had some is's
The best for last.
Oh man... imagine if they made a wagon version of this ;-)

After years of spending plenty of time behind the wheel of basically whatever I wanted, it has made me appreciate a car like this even more.
It captures the same thing the Charger/Challenger do. When compared to todays best sports cars, the Charger/Chally/IS500 feel old school. Kind of sloppy, kind of loose.
