Shedding my comment!
Very Shed That.
I feel like the worst part of this is that you don't hear from the kid.
During this entire game you don't know if the kid was suffering, his mental health, if he was uncomfortable. Yikes.
The fact that he doesn't speak is very telling. He wouldn't dare open his mouth without mom's permission
I'm not sure what's worse, this situation being a case of "overbearing mom doesn't let her kid talk on his own," or he's never really meant to be his own person as far as storytelling's concerned (his mom does seem to see him more as a vessel for her to mold into what she wants, esp later in the game)
But, yeah. Yikes.
17:52
The only thing you can hear from him was his shaky breath and probably his scream later...
Edit: yes. I know, its the worker scream please stop telling me,i can see all of your comments.
I think it's pretty clear that the kid is suffering. Not once in the whole game is the kid even remotely happy. He always looks sad, nervous and scared, and he's often looking down in shame. There's even an image of him crying while his mother verbally abuses him.
You don't need dialogue to tell how a person is feeling. You can get that information from looking at their facial expressions and body language. That's what visual storytelling is all about.
I think you can guess he was :/
No, I’m sure he LOVED it 🙄
As soon as the mother was introduced, just from her face and first sentences, I was wildly uncomfortable. Talk about a sense of dread and a well written toxic/abusive character. Ugh, that's the real horror
Even SCP-682 would probably make a better parent
@@thaliacrafts407 I feel like it'd be less malicious than this woman, yes XD Torn to shreds is arguably less abusive than what this mom put her child through.
Same
Reminds me of my mom. Though not as explicit or extreme
@@pattykrabbies Even well intending parents can act harmful ofc. Hurt people, hurt people. As they say. I also have mother issues but not to this extreme. I hope you've been able to heal💙
Is nobody gonna point out how the scan shows the kid’s lungs reached all the way to his waist?
He breathes in 4k
I think it’s supposed to be all of his organs bunched up together and the picture is just blurred
I was thinking the exact same thing.
He was destined to grow up to be a Furry. We all know Furries have abnormal insides for large objects 💗
Yours don't?
the sfx of the child’s laboured breathing was so haunting.......... and the fact that the child never even got any form of personality or dialogue I feel makes this even more horrifying. we have no clue how he felt about any of this, whether he was afraid or resigned or resisting... he never even got a name :”(

Kinda accurate to how fat patients are treated, sadly. They’re often dismissed and ignored
unfortunately that's how it tends to be with sick children. nobody asks or tells the child anything. i got a feeling the dev has experience with pediatric care...

The parents are the ones who buy the food… when it comes to childhood obesity, it’s ALWAYS the parents. Not only that but binge eating for some people is an addiction to deal with your problems, and a common problem of kids is physically or emotionally neglectful or abusive parents.
sounds like a jamaican mother, tough love
I think the kid imploded mid-scan.
The screams were probably the researchers reacting to it happen right in front of them.
Or, them running for their lives from whatever he became.
Or the kid himself screaming.
Or all of them.
essentially, his own body crushed his insides, brain included. The explosions are happening where organs were, the torso and head. His body crushed in so hard the organs squirted out everywhere.
@@Kagira2006 I know.
Alright, how do I describe the aftereffects in prose? I need to know this for a story I'm writing where his ghost shows up.
17:50 it doesn’t seem like his body crushed his organs, parts like his rib cages don’t appear to have shrunken. Or maybe I’m wrong
@@agentburningbutters3655
The final scan implies that his organs splattered out, so I'm pretty cure he imploded/was crushed.
As a fat kid growing up in an "almond as a snack" household, yeah this is accurate. Every diet, every workout, every fad, every book, nothing works. Then, when you go into a doctor's office to get help, you're seen as taking the easy way out. There's just no winning with it
Yeah. I was a fat kid and now a fat adult, my body's a carbon copy of my mother's whose a similar size. The unnecessary mental and physical torture I endured at the hands of doctors who were supposed to know better is something I will never forgive. I avoid all weight talk now.
I'm so sorry yall both been put through this. I hope this game in anyway is healing.
@@miserablepumpkin9453 This. Because of doctors, and bullies family and at school. My mom snapped and put me on a starvation diet at 13, for a full year I got 700 calories a day. It screwed me up bad. Do I blame my mom? Not a chance. She was being tortured at that time too. It is the only time my mom has ever abused me. Now though I get super angry when people talk about my weight. Especially doctors who think I don't see my weight or use it as a cop out to treat me. I stopped trying to manage my weight because tending to my mental health takes a massive toll on my energy reserves.
ya there was a obesity summit in ottawa or at least some research from there where they are starting to say at what point are you just a bad doctor if you keep prescribing diet and exercise and the patients can't do it. That after a while then other options should be explored since it's obvious the patient can't stick to diet and exercise or its not helping them for whatever reason.
You just eat better and maybe dial it back a bit, its not rocket science.
[spoiler!] The x ray with all the screaming showed his head exploded, i interpreted this as though whatever force the mother worships was supernaturally sucking the substance from the kid until his head caved in and his limbs buckled because he essentually imploded
Woops, I looked at the comments and got immediately spoiled. Oh well, this kind of horror isn't scary to me.

i was surprised the doctor actually listed realistic weight loss goals. i remember a thin woman said she was gonna try to lose 18(!?) pounds over a WEEKEND and i was like uhhhh you shouldn't. bc otherwise she'd crumple like a capri sun.
That and the doctor immediately being startled at a five pound loss, then horrified at a twenty-pound one, was a nice change of pace from a lot of fiction works where they'd just be like, "Whoo, weight loss is good! =D"
@@CelticGuardian7 exactly! its like, woah, realistic medically safe expectations?? knowing that such a severe loss of weight could indicate extremely bad health outcomes (like cancer)?? where has this doc been all my life😍

This does oddly feel Junji Ito-ish in how it's depicted. The physical distortion particularly reminds of Uzumaki, with how faith in the spirals eventually destroys one's body. What a well done horror

I kid you not. The moment that mother started rambling about how God is answering her prayers and shaping the Boy into His image, the only thing going through my mind was "Red Flag! Red Flag!" all the way to the reveal. That gave me goosebumps I wish to never encounter again.
When we saw what was happening to the kid at the end "okay, what eldritch entity was she really talking about?"
Yeah, I panicked so much
@@zerrodefex The Dessicater 😢
The fact that she brought God into it when He would never allow something like this to make the boy lose weight is a major red flag.
Immediately though of cultist, skipped past evangelist and went right to fanatical cultist
Pretty sure the ending is the kid exploding. They hint at this when they say "it's like it's all being compressed" (or something like that). Which would indicate none of his fat is actually going anywhere, it's being pushed inward (yet somehow the story still says he loses weight, so who knows).
If that were the case, and i'm hearing it right, tube of toothpasted with lots of pressure. viola.
Given the actual image we're given, It seems the prayers were subtracting the fat from the boy in a vacuum fashion, pressurizing his organs. He was twitching and looked immobile in his last alive scene, as if the internal strain was overloading his entire body. Ultimately, this would create a pressurized packet situation in reverse, like how when a spaceship springs a leak, things don't get sucked into space, they get blown out. The splatters around the boy's corpse were probably his internal organs.
It's the inverse of explosion, it's implosion.
Basically the Mom asks for 'God' to grant her kid an instant anorexia so 'God' just give it to her and we see the result of that. The kid's flesh actually constricting the skeleton (especially ribs) inside that it had nowhere to go but bursts outwards.
The 'God' in this story which the Mom wish her kid to achieve is actually a some sort of flesh eating God or having a very thin image one that it manipulates flesh but leaves the skeleton intact creating the implosion.
Anyway, horror based on bad parenting like this scares me because I've seen some personally.
Rather than exploding it as more like imploding. They mendtioned the Capri Sun comparison and i took it more along the lines of him literally getting sucked inwards. like there was a small black hole in his body just sucking everything together. And the last image was his body just giving in and everything just breaking inwards as if he was crushed suddenly.
@@shinrailp1416 True, that's more accurate than my example, i'd guess.
The fat was being sucked out of the kid and his externals were what seemed compressed. Just picture it as sucking all the air out of a plastic bottle, juice pack or box and it becomes compressed that way.
It isn't often that a horror game actually makes me this uncomfortable. Kudos to the writer/developer!
Mate this is utter garbage, just the dev being fat and making a "game" out of it
3k likes and no comments? Ima fix that
"My boy...handsome.."
Literal chills. She's so creepy. And honestly with the whole religion aspect, child explosion aside, this is very realistic. It's something I've seen actually. This happens to children who are overweight, neurodivergent, mentally unwell, disabled, lgbtq, or genuinely just different, all the time. Just replace "handsome" with "normal" and there you go.
Pretty much.
Have you ever actually seen the southern religious demographic?
They’re mostly at 2 extremes - but mostly bigger people with a few skin and bones people thrown in here and there
Child explosion? Lmao I’m sorry but the visual is too much.
Which is the one thing folks should *not* take away from this game. Just like any form of abuse, the mom isn't an example of faith, but selfishness and control. She cared about her embarrassment, not her son's health.
@@RanMouri82 Religion is about control though
That was disgusting, idk why or how they achieved such a terrible ending but they did and it was the last thing I expected. Well played game devs. Well played.

honestly the doctor and nurse did their best, they stopped treatment upon unusual results and tried to monitor the kid, it's just that it didn't end well either way... and although it's intentional and self-explanatory, the fact that the kid had 0 lines was just sad
I was expecting this to be an unethical experiment of some kind, but no. The doctor and nurse did everything they could, but in the end, they couldn't have possibly done anything against this 'God'.
What do you mean everything, they never talked to the child himself or tried getting child support involved. I get that not everyone is a fan of child support, but they could have helped in this scenario.
@@bertusoethier63 i think u mean CPS, child support is wat the absent parent pays
@bertusoethier fair point, i think it's more of a narrative device for the most part: they had the intent but didn't follow through, thus failing the kid due to inaction
@@onisama3528 pretty refreshing for it to not be a wild experiment tbh!
my only problem here is that, why did the doctor never ask the kid if anythings happening. you could assume that the mother told her kid not to say anything, but its not even shown the doctor attempting to ask at all. just something i found to be very odd
I think it was done on purpose by the game : the mother is the client, not the son. And I said client.
tbh if she did ask, the kid would have said his mom is doing nothing different, shes just praying
It's not that odd. My mother loved to exaggerate my issues and tell her own version of the story to doctors, getting me wrong treatments and diagnoses until I was like 20, because either nobody asked me or I was gaslit into agreeing with the adults.
I think it's on purpose. To make the child nameless, faceless, voiceless, mindless. "Just another victim", "just another God subordinate".
@@Frenchaboo oh God, I’m sorry that happened to you. I hope you’re in a better place now.
Umbrella when they pretend to be a weight loss clinic
Your right but god dammit
The doctors didn't have anything to do with it
Oh god, I feel bad for laughing, but you are so right, the poor boy did resemble a zombie for a bit. I feel terrible for laughing.
I think the fact that the boy never had any kind of personality or voice throughout the story really emphasize why the game/comic was made (I haven't read the comic so I'm not sure if he has a voice there, from the looks of it no), and not just because it might potentially go against his wishes or mental health. Despite the story being all about him, the child was never not a single moment actually important in anyone's eyes. The mother was doing these treatments and diets not because she loved her son, but because she felt judged by outsiders, and later, judged by God. She was happily willing to kill her son just so that she could reach her goal of having a "handsome" child and being seen as good by proxy. The doctors do not see the child as anything but a patient, eventually a test subject. Yes, the doctor begins to worry for the child, but at the end of the day she takes the mother's money and humors her (and depending on the route, she never worries for the child at all), and the focus is never really on the boy himself but on what is happening to him and the theological implications of it. The nurse is only willing to complain about the mother (she is the character who is closest to actually caring) but never once does she step in herself. The board at the beginning of the story only worries about how this eldritch death would affect their company. I'm not saying that all of the characters were terrible people or anything, but the life of the boy who died so horrifically was never once important. Had we seen any newspapers about the event, no one would mention the boy's life either. It would all be about his weight and his death, and that's it.
Hit the nail on the head. I do think that the Doctor and the Nurse sorely regretted their role, but the former seemed to have gotten her will broken by the incident and is now under the Entity's control. I'd have liked to see a bit of the aftermath, maybe the Doctor and Nurse grappling with both their role in the Boy's death and that fact that monsters are real, dangerous, and likely see us as their playthings.
Doctor: Nurse... please tell me that the boy is alive, that the Mom is a good parent, monsters aren't real, and that we all just had the exact same hallucination at the exact same time.
Nurse: I... I don't think that's possible...
I think you can validly say that everyone in this game IS a bad person. Lol. Except the kid of course
He does not talk more in the comic, I'd say in the comic he even has a worse of situation because at least in the game you get to see the doctor and the nurse feel bad for him and it's implied that he talks at least a little in the game, when the doctor makes sure the nurse always checks if he's comfortable. It's not much but the doctor making the nurse check that he's as comfortable as possible in the awful situation makes this a little less dark but I like it.
Horrifically accurate,
and sadly a real experience for many people
i do believe theyre all just bad people 😭

By all appearances, the kid actually implodes at the end. He doesn't explode, he doesn't transform into an angelic being, no. Like with the capri sun analogy, his frame is constantly sucked in further and further, untill his body can no longer withstand this mounting pressure, and it gives in, with the pressure shooting his parts out the other way. I think the best metaphor to visualize better what happens to him is that there's a rope between two walls, and that rope keeps pulling harder and harder on those walls, untill Eventually the walls can no longer withstand it's pull and they collapse inward, jettisoning out debris the other side.

I actually appreciate games like this. Body issues amongst boys very often don’t get discussed and it is normalised to fat shame or body shame boys. Boys also suffer with insecurities and trauma it’s not just a thing that girls suffer with. Boys don’t often talk about their body insecurities because boys are expected by society to not show any emotion.

I know a number of men who are victims of abuse and s*xual abuse and they haven’t reported it because they don’t want to be seen as “weak” or show emotion. Society wants men to be confident all the time but they mustn’t be to confident or they are a narcissist… I also don’t like these views.

(sorry if this doesnt make much sense, im just kinda letting my somewhat incoherent thoughts abt this pour out)
Those doctors should be mandatory reporters of abuse, and the mother appears to be abusing the poor kid even at the start.
Unfortunately in real life many people who are obligated to help children let them fall through the cracks. Nobody in this game is innocent beyond the child, and that is an allegory to real life abusive parents and the apathetic system that lets them keep abusing their kids. Everything in this game is an artistic choice and was done purposefully. Not every character has to be good or likeable to make a piece of media decent
I am like only five minutes into the video but so far I do like how they never specified that her son is having negative health problems so I think it's purely imply that the mom is the only one that's really worried about it but honestly it doesn't really matter because regardless what body type my son is as long as he was mentally and physically healthy I would be happy
Yeah, this mom was a terrible parent
Why would you sacrifice your son so you wouldn't get side eyed in public 🤦
Yeah, the doctor remarks that getting the kid into healthy habits is fine but she doesn't like the mom's behavior.
After reading the comic this is based off of, i honestly wish this was structured differently, or at least didn't omit some of the information from the source material.
There are subtle changes to each scan that are hard to detect in a visual novel version. The images are side by side so you can see the changes more easily in the comic.
Some images and scenes from the comic are missing here and i wish they included them because it added more intrigue and made the story feel less static. There's an additional picture in the comic of the kid where he's even more emaciated looking and distorted, presumably changing during the final appointment, that i think would've really helped here.
The scream with the scan seemed excessive at the end, i would've preferred just some dialogue, but i understand leaving off on a creepy note, it was just a little hoaky to me.
I'd say it gets forgiven for not having a lot of source material, but this novel was made by the same person who wrote the comic. Drawing out a story means you can add more information, and they did, but I don't think it was quite enough to benefit it in a truly impactful way. The mom came off as a bit more hysterical in the comic for me, showing off her son's ruined body whilst beaming would've worked pretty great here in my opinion, especially since they already gave her more lines and information to share.
All in all, i appreciate some of the curiosities getting satiated here, but the comic just does it better by itself. There's not enough information being added by having a long(er) form version to make the story work for me. It mostly just feels like fluff work. There's a lot that's supposed to be left to the imagination, i just don't think the story works well in this format when the comic itself was already pretty powerful by itself.
I would like to find this comic! Where can I read it? I tried doing a quick google search but am unable to find the full comic.

I would disagree, by making it into a game form like this the atmosphere and horror are able to build up significantly longer and with more dialogue we get a better look into the mom's religious fanaticism. The comic itself is fairly short.

Sorry, being doctor is all about concerning a change too quick in someone's body, ma'am 🤣
Man this hearkens to the worst of diet culture indeed. The way the kid is referred to more as a thing than a person - no name, no lines, not even "the patient" but "the child, the boy, my/your son". Even the most well-meaning of them being dismissive of the kid's existence as a person, more of a body who's a problem... my mom does that sometimes, and she never means ill, but the way she unconsciously buys into diet culture is harmful to her and people around her. It's so insidious that it's hard to realize just what's happening at times.

It’s rare that a horror game gets to me this much. As a fat person who has previously struggled with disordered eating, this game digs into a very real horror (anti-fat bias) excellently.
Yeah, I was genuinely disturbed by this 😅
alright fatty i get the game struck a chord but less burgers per meal
You mean others are the reason why some people struggle with their addiction to food
@@rebeccaconlon9743 When it comes to eating disorders that involve consuming a lot of food rather than restricting the food you intake - yes. Oftentimes, food consumption is triggered by negative emotions in these cases. Being made to feel bad about one’s body often just leads to more food consumption to cope with the shame.
That mother is terrible. I know that's self-evident, but I still feel like stating it for the record. (And the algorithm.)
The fact that the Doctor never thought of noting down the mother's behavior & the kid's symptoms and reporting them to CPS is baffling. Also, if I were her at the end, I probably would've started beating the sh*t out of her and screaming at her to wake up and see what's actually happening to her son.
Also, I have some thoughts about the game:
- The part about the boy's body cavity shrinking and the implication that it's not mundane, it might be that whatever "Him" is, it was feeding off of the boy's fat or something.
- Manly noted that when the Mom is talking about God and "Him", they almost seem to be separate. My thought is that they are separate and that the Mom is trying not to show her hand, or that she's using "God" in reference to "Him", not the actual Judo-Christian god. The big part is the wham line at the end where the Doctor says that she's convinced of "The Power of Him". Wouldn't one usually say "The Power of God"?
- I have a feeling that "Him" prays on the emotionally vulnerable. The very first conversation with the Mom makes her sound like a bad but fairly mundane parent. It's later on that it becomes more suspicious. She mentions during the first conversation that she's tried everything, and is desperate. "Him" might have gotten ahold of her after that first convo and twisted her into becoming its acolyte (perhaps even a prophet of sorts). "Him" likely got a hold of the Doctor after she saw the boy screaming, likely begging for someone, anyone, to make his pain stop; that would scar anyone. The final scan seems to imply that the boy's body collapsed in on itself.
Poor Doctor. * gives her hot chocolate, hot pot, and pays for her therapy *
Yeah, I agree with this.
They probably got possessed by the Eldredge deity and so they turned into acolytes of sorts.
Orrr, could just be the complete and utter shock of seeing something so inherently supernatural you can’t deny their existence anymore
You don’t need to be “possessed” to act traumatized
@@thatblastedflyfish9515 I'm not saying she's possessed because she admitted that the supernatural is real, I'm saying that because of the insane look on her face and the WAY she says it.
I have three theories.
First theory is “Him” might be The Devil or Mephistopheles, because as we seen in many iteration, we usually see the Devil taking advantages of those who are extremely desperate.
Second theory, “Him” is God himself, and the kid’s rapid weight loss and ended with the kid’s exploding is basically god’s punishment to the Mother for being abusive to the kid for so long, also the reason why God’s punishment is so extreme is probably because he start losing faith in humanity or something.
Third theory, the kid is basically like a mutant, like an X-Men, he was born with some kind of super gene, or have some kind of hidden special organ that absorb the fat from inside, and the treatment accidentally awaken his power and of course similar to many xmen, the kid control his power.
@@everlastingdragon4520 the “way” almost sounds like all she did was essentially said “there’s something beyond the veil”, at least to me? She DID see “his” power firsthand
This why you don’t make deals with the Devil. In the end he gets what he wants, and the person who made the deal gets more than they asked for.
being a religious person I honestly don't know what the Devs are trying to do here. Of course it wouldn't be somethin God would do yet the Mother references God and the capitalization on 'Him' is always referencing God; but this definitely looks like a Fae's type of deal so I'm totally stuck on what to think or what they were trying to achieve.
@@janette2422 Not a religious person, but I think the point was that it may have been some false deity. The mother's prayers either didn't do anything as some supernatural entity ate away at the child, or the mother's prayers ended up empowering the entity instead. Man, this game both pissed me off and made me a bit depressed. I've met mothers like the one in this game though not quite as extreme.
I've started seeing some comments saying "just work out more" or "eat less" or "eat healthier" so I figured I'd clarify and add some personal experience plus experience going around.
Obesity is much more complex than you think. Yeah sure, most of the time working out and eat less may help some-but there are so many other factors going on and what causes it. It could be genes, health issues, medicine (i.e. for depression), financial and limited access to better food-it could be anything, even a traumatic experience. The process of losing weight is slow and losing weight fast is dangerous because it adds stress to the organs and can lead to much more health issues than the obesity itself (i.e if you resort to liposuction). That's why starvation and malnutrition is dangerous.
The truth is that it is easier to gain weight than it is to lose it. However, for skinny people, this can be the exact opposite. They struggle to gain weight and try multiple things, and still have no results. Media has put pressure on society on how we should look and how we look affects on others and how we should be aiming for perfection. In the old days, being fat was attractive. Then, being fat was an abomination. Now, in the present, there are acceptances and portrayals of all different body types. However, the stereotyping and bigotry still exists today and still happens. We're either too fat, too big, oh wait now our nose and ears are too big etc.
When people focus more on how big or skinny we are, we know they mean well-they just want to see us healthy. However, the message we get from that is our self-esteem and self-worth are only limited to our body image. When you tried every single thing and nothing works, the message we get is "we don't try hard enough" or we're deemed as a "failure;" and in the end, the blame is put on us. It wouldn't matter if we would have a super power. It wouldn't matter if we found a cure for cancer. We're just either too fat or too skinny and we're not worth anything else-and just existing on this world is a burden to others.
So for everyone out there, focus on being healthy. Just that. Losing or gaining weight to get to the ideal body type will not fix the issue. Trust me. I learned that all too well.
I'd hated to watch this video, but something like this I had to see it for myself. I know this was mostly a horror religious trope going on here, which was shocking to be honest. Most of the time these stories take a "reality" format though it did borrow from some real life experiences. Thank you ManlyBadassHero for keeping it unbiased.
This
Actually, the successful journey through weight loss differs from person to person and likely has many nuances attached to it. "Eat less" is not always an answer. For some it's going to work, for others it will only make things worse. There come many details into play: How frequently you are eating? What are the sizes of meals? What kind of food you are eating? Are there any underlying health issues that can affect your weight? Age, height and gender also need to be acknowledged.
What some people don't realize, a diet must not only meet the nourishment needs of the patient but also fit into their preferences. There is no benefit to a diet that one will not be able to upkeep for longer periods of time. There's also nothing wrong with small portions of sweets and snacks in a controlled quantity, as long as the patient has enough self-discipline not to go overboard with it.
@ferret absolutely agree. even if obesity is causing health issues, that's no excuse to make people feel unwelcome and unloved.
absolutely. A lot of the "advice" in the comments to 'eat less' or 'eat healthier' seems to assume drinking one soda will dramatically increase your weight or smthn. As someone who had binge-eating disorder and could finish a family-size bag of chips in a day without ever coming close to overweight, that's bs advice and assumes way too much about the other person. Metabolism and hormones and stress level all affect this to an extreme extent.
This also goes the opposite way. Speaking as someone who struggled with gaining weight after a traumatic event that caused my body and mind to lose itself in a way, I just struggled to regain weight. I only had one doctor,a therapist actually, who actually helped me, who didn't help me by telling me to eat more or to eat healthier- he got blood work done on me, the blood work showed i was deficient in many areas of nutrition and as a result I was just struggling to maintain anything i ate I ended up needing a medicine change and after some progress, I had an emergency that was predictable to have happened with my blood work where as a girl my period is unnaturally heavy and long to the point where I essentially bleed out all the blood I have. I passed out and went to urgent care and after some time my doctor/therapist made the recommendation to try to see a specialist for my periods to my mom. My dad actually was more supportive than I've ever expected during this whole ordeal. He was more than happy to get me professional help because it was what was helping me get better and actually start to enjoy my everyday life more. So after talking with a specialist we ended up using birth control to reduce my period to near non-existence. It took so long to begin making progress really because I had alot of roadblocks along the way but it just took one good doctor to start ruling through possibilities for my issue to really find what was going to help me. So much trial and error just to end up deleting my gender and getting bloodwork done regularly. I was sad that by the time I did have reached a milestone in improving my health as finally starting to get some of my blood levels corrected and have been feeling so much healthier, I found out the cancer diagnosis he received while I was starting to recover killed him. It was sad to hear the news when I told my current psychologist about him and the milestone I reached to hear the fact he had passed away only a month earlier... I was even more mad when my therapist started telling me what he did was wrong after I told her about my weight issues and to not try to convince me to try to change my diet to vegan cause a vegan diet wouldn't have made me healthier. Eating a "healthy vegan diet" wouldn't have helped me gain weight as I wouldn't be eating what my body needed. Eating more food wouldn't have helped me cause my body would have rejected it and given me a tummy ache. I hope one day there can be more health professionals like my therapist who instead of setting on one possible solution, looks at what is the problem and if it is a symptom of something else before making the claim.
I feel like the scans should have variated a bit more to show how the kid's insides were basically being vacuum sealed, since we just jump from decently chubby to just noodle size, it still delivered at the end, that's a hell of an image with the context known.
Also if you are wondering, the kid *did* implode, in the original comic from where this game is based on, we can see a final panel before they show the final scan, where the kid is so skinny he literally looks like a skeleton with skin, that long lower part of the scan's head is his lower jaw that deformed from all the suction, so we can assume the splash that is shown is his brain bursting.

this is actually insane.
this was hard to watch. I was sent to different weigh loss programs as a child and teen and most of them did more harm than help. it never felt like it was about as as individual people. it felt like we were supposed to finally be normal. when asked why we wanted to lose weight most answered something like either "my parents said I have to", or "I don't want to be bullied anymore". we never got taught to prioritise health. no one cared that some of us were on the verge of developing eating disorders to lose weight faster. of course anything else that happens in the game can't be compared to my experiences, but just the vibe... felt weirdly familiar.

actually thinking about it more something a lot weirder than just making him thin is going on. he didn't just whither away at the end- the image and sound effect make it seem like he was somehow squeezed to death. like something was simultaneously sucking out the fat while also shrinking his skin, and in the end when there was no fat left it just squeezed his bones and organs.
