    I do love the subversion of the one old guy at the rehabilitation center being the one sane person surrounded by all those twisted creatures and finding out the truth, while still using his setting/background at the end to frame the whole situation from an outsider's perspective as "an act of insanity by this crazy old man"

Because the director was unknowingly (kinda) infecting more people, the lovecraftian monster things deemed him as an ally for the time being. hey Manly, just wanted to say that I am very thankful for your chanel, because it helps me a lot. You see, I have always been a scaredy cat; I never liked horror movies, books or (most) games, spooky attractions, etc. Any kind of scary-ish thing would put me off, except maybe the more comedic type of it.
    Yet, I always manage to enjoy and go through my fears when I'm watching you play a scary game of any kind. It sounds silly, but the way you play them makes the horror bearable and even entertaining! Now, because of you, I can enjoy the genre without being too scared :) and for that I am very grateful.
    You are one of the best chanels that focus on horror stuff in my opinion, cause you always have a wide variety of games and just the way you play them is much, much more refreshing than the majority, since you do it with such determination haha.
    Anyway, all of that just to say that I love your videos and that you are great at making them, so, keep it up :))

    One thing I do enjoy about this style of game is that it's pixelated enough to where you can kinda see what's going on, but the rest is left up to your imagination. Plus you only get to see these creatures for a short bit before you're trying to kill them, so that adds to the vagueness.
    I was also going to say that I almost wished they left the ending more vague, it just seems sad with the old man winding up in jail, but on the other hand this got me thinking. Why was he in the institute in the first place? Why is it that he could tell something was wrong and something had to be done? Did he know about such monsters already?

    • @calsalitra4689
      @calsalitra4689 Год назад +17

      As far as why he was institutionalized and aware of the situation? I'll go with a simple answer. He was institutionalized because of his PTSD, which is also why he noticed the results of the treatments, even if he didn't know about the treatments themselves. PTSD can cause hyper-awareness, constantly alert for threats, real or imagined. Where the patients and staff might have noticed or ignored the signs (either willingly or as a result of gaslighting), Osborne hyper-fixated on those signs and ignored all opposition and plausibility as he investigated relentlessly. The treatments took place over the course of two months, after all, more than enough time for a hyper-aware, paranoid, highly reactive war veteran suffering from untreated PTSD to come to a seemingly insane conclusion.

    Damn this game was nice I can already see a sequel about it. Either that the old man was experimented upon too and because of that he was able to regenerate as fast but didnt end up like an abomination. Maybe he didnt actually die but used it as a cover up after he found the government was behind these so they wouldnt track him. Since he is a veteran and all. We could maybe see a second game about it. Or that he died but you get to play a different person but this time the virus spread more and is more common in the government you find the notes of the old man etc.

At some point, I forget how, it abandons the concept and the rest is a date with the monster that mostly drops the horror angle.

    This was pretty good! This type of horror usually works very well the other way around, it’s hard to make a good comprehendible story but when done right it’s perfect. I can’t think of any examples but I know there’s some out there, you’re playing a game and are in perspective of the main character surrounded by monsters or some other horror creature, they’re being attacked and have to defend themselves from these monsters, but in the end we see from someone else’s perspective or we learn that there was some type of hallucinogenic that drove the protag to believe he was surrounded by monsters, but then we look back and see all the innocent people massacred. When done well it can be amazing, anyone have any games that are like this? I can’t for the life of me remember any but I know I’ve seen this somewhere or maybe a movie? Anyway this games not bad, had a good horror element, but there wasn’t exactly a plot or mystery to find, I mean obviously the people are getting infected and turning into monsters and we’re pretty much told that right off the bat, and it’s a stereotypical reverse psychology, normally you’d think “he’s a crazy man killing people because of his delusions” but it’s kind of hard to believe that, it’s not shocking when he kills the first nurse. Not saying the game is bad just my personal thoughts!

    The gun is extremely reminiscent of the way Osbourne probably had to kill people in the war. Even the gameplay where players can duck behind objects while shooting their enemies is much like trench warfare.
    So it's either Mr. Osbourne is making use of his experience during the war, or he is having a hallucination because of his PTSD.

    This game seems pretty interesting and it also gives me the same feelings as some Lovecraft-inspired games; the whole insanity thing, people going insane, creeping horror that starts off subtle, and that tentacle creature at the end just screamed HP Lovecraft for me - especially the insane part and tentacles.
    The ending might have also had a bit of Lovecraft in it? I don't know. This was a pretty nice video, though. :)
    Been watching Manly for months now, and I think he's probably my favourite RUclipsr for both Indie games and Horror Games. He doesn't over-exaggerate with screaming or yelling, his reactions seem genuine and actually fit the moments; whenever he jumps, I usually do as well.
    He also has character / a sense of humour (The "empty like my soul" jokes, "A seeeeecret!", etc), and his voice is perfect. :D
    EDIT: Forgot to mention the 1900's setting, too, which I think is something in a lot of Lovecraftian works.
