This game really should've gotten ported to 3DS or remade. It would've kept the 3D effect but also likely been colorized to some extent. What a missed opportunity when this game is surprisingly great and stuck on the Virtual Boy forevermore.

I have one, and I played it for hours at a time, and it doesn’t hurt my eyes even slightly. I think a lot of people are just dramatic.
I'm very happy someone showed him the ending in which Wario chills with a hot babe on a flying carpet. That is essential to the VB Wario Land experience.
Man, I don't remember Vinny playing this game _at all._ Anyway, here's a fun fact about this game: Virtual Boy Wario Land canonically takes place in the *Awazon* river basin and the final boss is quite literally named Demon Head. Also the soundtrack for this game slaps, it's one of Kazumi Totaka's hidden gems.

The soundtrack is alright but almost all of it is based on just one motif and it gets quite repetitive at some point. It does sound really nice though, excellent sound design. Very reminiscent of Wario Land 1.
Man, they really missed an opportunity to remaster this game for the Nintendo 3DS, even the developers from Mutant Muds wanted to remake it and Nintendo ignored it...

@@LostSoulSilver It's a shame, too. I'd even take a collection of emulated ROMs for the series on Switch. Wario Land 1, 2, 3, 4, Virtual Boy, and Shake It. WarioWare is fun but the Wario Land series is where it's at.

This game is the definition of a hidden gem. Everyone forgets about this game, which is unfortunate because it's one of the best games in this series, a series which is also sadly kind of overlooked as well. I hope this video gets more people to try it out. It's a really short game that you can beat in a single sitting.
I wonder if anybody made a colorized ROM hack of it or something like it.

Vinny made a promise on stream (end of the final Wario Land 4 stream) that he would stream that in less than a year from then. Sadly, Vinny didn't keep his promise, and I'm betting the reason why is simply that he's forgotten about that game, rather than having changed his mind, because he seemed excited about playing it.

I remember meeting one kid who had a Virtual Boy.
It was hard to set up eye level, it was kind of cool for the gimmick it was but after 10 mins or so, you'd get a headache lol.
This game's directed by the same guy who directed Wario Land 4! Two of the best in the series behind the same mind.
Gotta love Vinny playing Wario Land. We can never let this golden franchise die. I'm sure we'll get a new entry some day.

At least people do still want those games. Warioware has successfully usurped all the attention of the fans from the Wario Land series
Gunpei Yokoi did NOT like the direction that Nintendo took with the Virtual Boy at all. He insisted it should be marketed as a toy, not as the "high end VR device" Nintendo was marketing it as. That just ended up overpromising what the thing is.
I believe he was more of a toy maker at heart anyway and had trouble getting along with the direction of just video games that Nintendo was going.
If only Nintendo sat on this tech until they could make it full color at an affordable price. Imagine a full color virtual boy as a Nintendo 64 accessory. Many N64 game engines were already optimized to render multiple views for split screen multiplayer. Getting them to render in stereoscopic 3D would not have been a herculean feat, and a home system that can display color 3D polygon graphics in the late 1990s for $500 total would've been revolutionary.
Problem is, that it would be way too expensive, even the normal virtual boy was expensive at the time
@@arielglr7177 Nintendo should have used System Link alongside N64's with Expansion packs installed and used both Exp packs in tandem for more Nintendo Power, imagine 8 player system link Multiplayer/ co op (Duke Nukem 64, Perfect Dark would be AMAZING)

I tried out watching RUclips videos on a 3ds and was amazed it worked at all lmao. It's crusty, but it works.

Ooh, I remember making a booru piece for this stream. I think he streamed this back in like early 2019, so it's cool to see it getting an edited video finally. Hard to imagine this was one of the only good games on that system. Cool that VR is finally delivering on a lot of the promises made 25+ years ago tho.

Most of the games on the system were actually quite good (For the literal half a dozen English releases), the problem was that there was so incredibly few, and many were also very hard to find. The Mario Tennis was good. The robot boxing game Teleroboxer (Think Goemon's Great Adventure) was great! There was also a turn based Gundam game, like 9 baseballs mostly in Japanese, and a few other odd ones like Bomberman, Mario Clash, and of course Tetris! The worst part of the system for me when I would play it was the eye strain and dizzyness after playing it for too long. Much worse than modern 3D on that front
I don't know if this was fact or rumor but I think Nintendo rushed the release of the Virtual Boy (you know, N64 was taking a long time and all that) against Gunpei Yokoi's judgement. It was kind of still a prototype, so to say. Also they cut many costs, the thing had freaking chiptune audio and no gyroscope of any kind. The red graphics were always there I think. Essentially, it wasn't Gunpei Yokoi's fault.
The Red graphics were chosen 'cus red LEDs or something at the time were cheaper than other colors or what.
'cus Nintendo is all about being cheap, eh.

I think I'm the only human on Earth that played and beat this game on the virtual boy. My eyes have suffered for eternity but it was worth it
My mom got me a virtual boy when I was young. This was the only game I could beat, and enjoyed. I had Mario Tennis, the boxing game, the kind of cool Star Fox rip off called Red Alert and the Mario Bros. game. Anything beyond a few inches of my face is blurry.
There's a great Virtual Boy emulator for VR, which not only has the benefit of depth, but the controllers are pretty much the same layout as well. I had a blast with it!
But um, look guys look! It's one of my greatest achievement, Wario Land on the Gameboy Advance! Hahaha!

I want to know the Mario timeline. When wario was doing this, what was Mario doing? Do we get a game with baby wario? Why doesn’t gooigi make appearances in the main franchise? How did bowser escape the clutches of literal pools of lava? Are those phantom bowsers, sent only to be killed by Mario? Have we even seen the real bowser? These are all important questions to me.
And yes, I have been playing too much metal gear solid.
VB Wario Land is not only the best Virtual Boy and not just one of the best entries in the series IMO, its one of my favorite titles of all time. I have the records for the fastest time for finishing it on both quests at Planet Virtual Boy ;)

I only ever played on a Virtual Boy once; when I was a kid, I was in the back of my friend's parents' van on like a 1.5hr drive, and he happened to have it with him. I remember it was winter and we all had big bulky coats, because I took mine off and balled it up in my lap to have something to set the VB on. I'd heard of the VB before then but had hardly ever seen one, and had no idea how badly it was flopping at the time.
I wanna say I played the tennis game. I recall being impressed by the 3D (for comparison, I had a bunch of those pseudo-3D edutainment games on my home PC that used the red-blue glasses, so a semi-mobile system that you just stuck your head in was pretty novel) and not getting so much of a headache, but a stiff neck from having to hold my face up to the headset.
I'd love a chance to play one again today. Feel like Nintendo was really close to something with the VB but just missed the mark in some crucial areas that killed it. Actually wearing the headset rather than putting your face up to it would've done a lot for it IMHO

Fun fact: according to some e3 footage of virtual boy wario land the original name for virtual boy wario land was "Wario Safari" (the more u know)
I'm still hoping one day we get a Wario Land revival. Even a compilation of the games would be great. If they could include this game without the red screen it would it would really sweeten the deal.
Also, it feels really weird to see a game like this that despite not being in full colour, still has really fluid animation for the time.
If warioware can get one I'm sure we'll see one for warioland in due time

Not putting the VB library on 3DS was such a wasted opportunity, especially considering how few games were made for it in the first place. Barring third-party licensing issues, the entire library could've been uploaded within like a week.
