- Episode 2 | Today we are checking out the speedrun demo competition of the brand new Mario Fan game: Super Mario & The Rainbow Stars! This fan game is something straight out of my dreams, as it has phenomenal sprite work, incredible music, and feels authentically Nintendo (even though it's not)! Shoutout's to the entire Rainbow Star's Dev team on making such an awesome game so far!

About Super Mario & the Rainbow Stars: One day, the Mario Bros were hanging out near their house until they suddenly received a letter from Peach. They've been invited for the Star Festival! Before that festival starts, they're planning to take a trip with a hot air balloon. Things turn out for the worse once something goes wrong...
Everyone gets scattered, and now it's up to Mario to find his friends, as well as retrieve the Rainbow Stars, which were scattered by the newly awakened Starnox. Mario must get these Rainbow Stars, otherwise the plan of plunging the world into darkness might succeed... Thankfully Mario will be accompanied by many different partners alongside his journey.
From a star kid to a ghostly spirit, and from a blooper pirate to the dark star itself, safe to say Mario will encounter many unique friends and foes on his adventure! This adventure will take you through the archipelago where Yoshis reside, an abstract forest inhabited by many different ghosts, a sky island which holds all 4 seasons at once and more!

I love the cute little details of the life bar. The heart wearing a snorkel when he went into the underwater level and changing to the frog suit icon. This game is just so well done in top of being adorable and aesthetically so pretty.
I love that kind of details. Reminds me a bit of Blizzard in some games, like OW with certain skins.
That’s why I love Mario Party 2 as well! If you playing on the Wild West Board you are dressed like a cowboy. Only Mario Party where your outfit matches the play board.
How can I play this game?
Had to go back and check, but yep. This has to be one of the best Mario fan games of all time, and it's not even done yet.

There are no squid enemies besides bloopers and no enemies replace spikes (which aren’t in Mario Maker). Trashy comments and brain.

2:05: @DGR The flower enemies are called Crayzee Dayzees, I believe (there's a golden variant known as an Amayzee Dayzee). This is off the top of my head from what I recall seeing in Paper Mario

@@XenoChron2 Well this isn't an actual Mario game so the point seems moot here. But I'm sure Nintendo will stick with timers 99.98% of the time still. They don't hurt anything and help provide a necessary competitive aspect to their games.
I just played through the demo over the past few days, and when I say it was some of the most fun I have had while playing a Mario game; I mean it. Great video as always DGR! Props to Chris for the top tier editing as well.

You missed a secret in 1-3. If you go all the way to the right in the beginning and climb up, the pirate goomba is taking a nap and you can bop him. It doesn't do anything, but I wonder if it changes some dialogue later in the game.

Honestly, this feels like an official Nintendo game, and I sincerely hope Nintendo will take notice of this, and hire the entire team to either recreate or even create a brand new Super Mario game in the same style as this one. And I don't even have a computer to play this on. 😁
Well, the bad thing is that Nintendo might instead do everything they can to get this game off of the internet for good. 😭
These people should be making their own original game, and Nintendo should take just as much notice of people making non-Mario games. Stealing someone's IP really should not be a great way to get hired. It shows a lack of integrity.

@@machineofadream The problem is that it's a lot harder to get noticed as an indie game developer making their own original game, while if you make a good fangame you already have a dedicated audience. I feel like getting public attention by making fangames before turning over to true independent development might become a trend.

The difficulty seems to be on kiddie level. But then again it is yhe first world. Man the attention to detail in this game is superb! I absolutely loved the weather change from sunny to gloomy to rainy. Cant wait to see snowy and volcano like levels. Maybe desert or windy ones aswell. Who knows. All i know is we need a version of this gor people with hacked switches. Although this is in the very early stages of development, overall it has the potential to be top 3 greatest mario game of all time.

I think the reason for the difficulty not being that hard is because those games are not built with more experienced players in mind but instead with either new ones or kids who are not going to be fast at picking up stuff.
I speak from experience where it took me a long time and several different games before I could play at a level I would call competent (I do not want to think about how long it took me to get out of the 'use starter only' for Pokemon)

I just wish that we could get it working on a Mac computer. the instructions that they give doesn't work yet as myself and several other people are having the same issues getting it to load.

The game looks absolutely stunning, but the level design sometimes leaves something to be desired. Some parts feel rather dull and repetitive.

I wish I was as easily entertained as Dave and his chat kiddo zoomer zoomie fanbase and Saphcal. While these devs have a meager yet respectable amount of coding talent, Unfortunately it takes more than stealing Mario IP and slapping it into their game to impress me. It'd be nice to see people with this much coding talent apply it to unique games instead of wasting their time and potential on copyright infringing and IP theft. They could easily make their own actual game and have the respect of the gaming community instead of just Mario and DGR fanboys who selfishly disregard important aspects of game development such as IP, copyright, etc. They'll never know the thrill of actually creating a game or IP of their own, subdued to living in the afterimage of larger companies like Nintendo who created all the content and forged a pre-existing fanbase for them, rather than having their own fans who respect them specifically for their own work.
