  • Things hit a bit jumbled up due to the Dixie Fire and we had to skip some of the trail. In the midst of all this I transferred some videos to an external memory card to free up space on my phone but forgot to export them from Kinemaster and had to start over. This video is mostly unedited.
We got into Bucks Lake at night and got taken in by a great camp host there and let us stay with them. The next morning they got word that Belden(the next town stop) was being evacuated and drove us to a nearby town so we could take a bus around the fire to Chester, CA. After a few days hiking out of Chester really bad smoke rolled in and was bothering Honeybears asthma so she wanted to get further up trail that wasn't effected by smoke. Ultimately we ended up skipping from Old Station to Shasta which is over 100 miles. I am pretty upset about it but ultimately have to keep my family's health and wellness a priority.

My house is in danger in Chester. So far so good. This is the worst fire I've ever seen. The firefighters did some super hero stuff to defend my neighborhood yesterday. God bless them all !!!

So sad with the fires. More and more of the trail is succumbing to burns and then burn scars. I plan to hike the pct when I retire in 4 years. Wondering each year what’s really going to be left.

Glad to see you guys are playing it safe. You can always go back in the future and hit the stretches that were closed and really enjoy them. ✌

I hear your cough, Rebecca. I am so sorry. I am praying that it gets better for you. These fires are crazy. It's crazy here, too. (COVID resurgence) I just want to bring you a nebulizer cocktail, some oxygen, and fresh air. I am so sorry! You are rocking it, though!!!!

try not to be too upset, it cannot be helped. You are doing it, as much as you can, when and where you can! Be safe and enjoy your time on trail

The trail changes every year. You have to hike the trail as it presents itself each year. If you have to skip for fires that does not change your accomplishment. I'm going in 2023, and I expect there will be a whole different set of challenges 20 months from now. so hike your hike and proudly proclaim your "thru-ness". Go touch the monument!

Wow, wow. The fire situation is very distressing. I'm glad you were able to take in the beauty under the circumstances. Dude, the spoon issue. Just have to laugh about it. Hehe. You guys are doing amazing. Keep trekking. 😀

If I had to guess, I'd say the bird was a Yellow Warbler. Y'all be safe out there!

For many years to come it will not be possible to hike the entire PCT without skipping. Sad.

When people cannot figure out what happening in this world because they are beyond dumbed-down and have not studied history, they are getting what they ask for.

Theres also a large section in Oregon thats fire damaged from last year that you'll have to get off trail and go around. I know it sucks but not much one can do. Great video. Stay safe.

I'm beginning to realize the trail is a different challenge every year. This year it is fire and smoke. Who could have planned for that? Don't be discouraged.

The mystery bird is a male Western Tanager, one of the more colorful birds to be seen in that part of the world. You made a wise decision to jump ahead and stay safe.

It’s so strange to watch this today, and know that the trail you were walking when you recorded this, has since burned. Stay safe out there.

Agreed. So sad. That entire area Belden north and east I travel camped through a few years ago. Spent time there as a kid without much memory, so drove through, rediscovered and planned to be back and spend some quality time.

The fires are horrible. I’m glad you were able to get away from the Dixie Fire.
So Honey Bear thinks she looks like an alien if she’s wearing a hoodie. To me, she just looks like a PCT hiker.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up skipping to Oregon to avoid the smoke.
