It was your first video on "Savage Sword of Conan Vol. 1" that helped me to invest in these omni and what a journey it has been since.
I have just ordered this one, but despite liking Conan quite a lot, I am experiencing a sort of "Conan-fatigue"--and yes, I read other comics, "traditional literature", and so, and have a good amount of time between my readings of Conan.
However, the later entries, the stories are getting way more predictable and often they feel more like a retelling rather than a brand new story. Of course, to an extend, this is expected in such a long run; as well another contributing factor, I believe, that although there are dynamics in Conan, the stories follow a very specific structure and the traits are very solid and outstanding on their own to overshadow any surprises or deviations of the traditional Conan stories.
Anyway, I will keep collecting them--including Conan the Barbarian omni--and enjoy as much as I can out of them!
This looks great. Do we know why the dropped the page count for this volume? Surely at least 2 more issues could have been included.
Also, do we know if any of the earlier volumes will get reprints?
I've purchased every volume of both Savage Sword and Original Marvel Years Omnis that has been released thus far. I plan on getting the entirety of both series', if possible. 70s - 90s Marvel is my favorite era. I mix it up between the direct market covers and the regular covers with the Conan books. It really depends on what I think looks cooler. In this instance, I went with the direct market cover for this volume. I love the purpleish-blue and blood red colors. However, I went with the regular covers for the other four volumes. I especially liked the cover for Savage Sword of Conan Vol 2. The green background was striking!
It'd be nice if they sent some of the early volumes back to print. I know Conan's reading order isn't a big deal, but I also don't want to start at volume 5+
Like others here, I also have them all, and will be getting them as long as they print them. One thing though, I prefer the colour of the original pages (at the back of the omni) than the pure white pages. The yellowing of the pages adds to the artwork. I wish they would keep the colour of scanned pages as is - just a thought. As always, great work Omar
I'm not watching the video yet, but here 's a comment to appease the algorithm. Savage Sword is already an automatic buy for me, and I don't want even the slight spoilers that a first look gives...
Day one purchase for me, I love the work of John Buscema and Ernie Chan.

I love the Savage Sword of Conan, I've always loved it. I used to buy it every week in Mexico when I was a kid. I loved the "adult" feel it had, compared to the superhero books. It also carried a "for mature audiences" label here but the guys at the newsstands didn't give a shit 😂😂😂
This one has one of my favorites. Conan in the land of Amazon’s who ride tigers .
If they keep making those books thinner we will need 20 volumes to finish this series.
SSOC volume 1& 2 has some the most beautiful art by BWS and especially John Buscema with inks by Alfreda Alcala. I understand that Big John didn’t like to be heavily inked by Alfredo Alcala but the art turned out so gorgeous
I think in the same way, they were one of the best duos in the history of comic book art!
Thiago DePaula so far I only have SSOC omnibus vol 1 and 2. I’m really mostly interested in getting the collaboration with Alfredo Alcala and John Buscema. Would you know what other omnibus volumes mostly have their runs in?
@@chazkhaira4690 I think the majority and the best work they have done together are in the ones that you already have, but you still find something in the others, not in the same quality or amount!
Jennifer was also a story in Creepy if i recall, with Bernie Wrightson on art duty, with more of a Poe vibe than the weird fantasy vibe presented here

I notice Marvel Started to thinning these but still keep the retail price of 125$, Conan omnibus vol 6 and 7 are less than 700 pages each and still retail for 125$. i know they want to make it a 10 omnibus run ( which is cool ) but seriously it should have retailed for 100$.

it should take 15 omnibu , unless Marvel did what they are doing to Conan to push it to 20 Omnibu

If DC was printing savage sword they would do a single 15,000 page omnibus 😆

I really want to start reading Savage Sword of Conan. Do you think volume one will be reprinted or can I start with any volume?
You really don't need to start from the beginning in my opinion. But I missed out on the vol. 1 omni. So I bought a used paperback copy from Ebay. I got vol. 1 and 2 of the older paperbacks for like $30 each I think.
None of the stories are really connected. There’s a few couple part stories, but they’re collected in the same volumes. So you really could just pick up at any point. I also believe none of the stories are in chronological order either, so that also helps with jumping in anywhere.
Vol 1 of SSOC is quite expensive now...I wish they would reprint it.
Anyone got any idea what they are gonna do with the Brak Man Morn stuff they’ve orphaned?
Doesn’t seem enough material for his own omni. Is their other stuff they could bundle it with? Or maybe they don’t have the rights for the character?

Between the Conan Epics, Omnis, & Trades (as well as other REH related comics) I might need to consider buying a shelf JUST for Howard stuff alone!

I have the complete 22 volume dark horse set of Savage Sword. I picked up volumes 1-4 of Savage Sword of Conan omnis because I love the omni format with all the extras. I dont know about picking up 5 and 6. I might just collect the Roy Thomas volumes.
Came onto the SSOC Omnibus reprint late. I may pick this volume up; and I favor the classic covers. If Marvel reprinted the first three volumes (enabling access to the DM covers), then I would definitely snag them up. I own a couple of the DH SSOC trades and purchased the digital DH files bundle when DH lost the license. Didn't realize the magazine had letter pages too.

I have all these in ratty singles from my uncle but I'm definitely picking this up, great art all around. However, Louise Simonson, while a great editor for X-Men and I love her X-Factor and Superman stuff...she was a horrible fit for Conan and both Conan books fell off immediately when she took over as a editor, at least from a writing standpoint. The stories became goofy, formulaic and lacked atmosphere. The books pick back up when Larry Hama becomes editor, even though the first Roy Thomas era is still the gold standard imo. I get the feeling she was not really a fan and didn't take the character or the mileu seriously at all. I'm interested to read her intro though.
Omar, do you have any insight on if the first few volumes will be reprinted? They're going for crazy prices on ebay, DM variants especially.

I greatly prefer the artwork for the Standard cover for this particular book, but I’m shooting for a full DM variant cover set for this collection. It would drive me nuts having one that didn’t match. Same with the X-Men and Spidey Books. Haha

No. They are stand alone stories that jump about in time

I've saw on amazon.ca the Predator: the original years omnibus vol 1 for only 55$ canadian. Is that a mistake 55$ for an omnibus over 1000 pages? I pre orderered it lol wont miss that opportunity even if it come out in one year.

That sci-fi story could had been collected with the rest of the stories from Savage Tales not included in Savage Sword 1, and maybe Bran Mak Morn too.

For some reason in my mind, Dr Comics is some mad scientist who conjures up comics to sell to kids in back alleys. He seems hella creepy but is actually just a real nice bloke.

For someone who wants to start collecting the Marvel Conan Omni's, which is the more preferred title, Barbarian or Savage Sword? I already have the Busiek Omnibus which was fantastic, just looking to get more Conan!
Savage is more mature content. So closer to the books.

In my youth I had several superheroes that I really liked but the one I like the most was Conan the Barbarian he didn't have no superpowers but he could you know what people up and he had smart enough to know when it stopped and went to come back at night and Rob them all he was the anthem first anti-hero he was the man and I remember reading The Savage Sword of Conan I would go get the oldest shoes and my favorite comic book store because I wasn't trying to see you know nobody fly the air pick up 100 tons I want to see somebody throw down get the girl and take the treasure yeah man cool man was it alright I'm out

Great video as always. charging 125$ for a 12 issue book seems a little too much in my opinion even if it Conan drawn by Gil Kane and John Buscema

They’ll reprint them. Very few Marvel titles get the number of Omnis that the Conan books are getting, and that’s because they are selling well. Just give it some time
Omar, is the paper thinner than the rest of the savage sword omni’s? Is this the first savage sword omni printed on thinner paper in Turkey? Why didnt Marvel stick with the Chinese printer?😔
I need to check my books, but I think the thinner paper starts on volume 3 of the savage sword omnis. I'm thinking it was a change that was caused by covid, but I think the other Marvel books switched back to the chinese printer, so idk what the issue is.
I love these Conan Omnis but i am very disappointed that SSOC 4 has 17 episodes and SSOC 5 has only 12.... Do better Marvel (from a fan)
I think I'm stopping at Volume 6 of each. These Savage Swords are slow reading.
Im only missing vol 1 but its kindy pricy
I decided to stop when Thomas left as the regular writer. Partly because there is only so much Conan I want to read. With all the Omnis and Epics I have, I am in a danger of having too much to read in the rest of my lifetime. Also I am not keen on Fleisher as a writer. I can take or leave Buscema. I like his artwork that is inked by South American artists but without Ernie Chan or Alfredo Alcala I find him a highly competent but boring artist. For me what makes an artist interesting is what they get wrong - that is their style- Buscema is too good. I know you love Buscema Omar - so apologies. I really appreciate this tour as there is some great Pablo Marcus and Toth stuff etc but I am going to pass on this one.
Sorry, but so many of the Fleisher stories are absolute rubbish. An absolute pain to read. And the Fleisher era will last at least two more omnibuses. I will probably pick it up for completeness - BUT BE WARNED.
If Marvel keeps making the rest of these omnis this skinny, or doesn't drop the price significantly, then I think I'm out unfortunately. Pretty poor move.
