The Dark Lord/Lord of Hollows endings are still my favourite! I even still have my laptop wallpaper of a screenshot I took when my char becomes the Dark Lord on DS3👌 Makes me feel like a badass 😅
I believe that the Lord of Hollows is the natural progression of the Undead Curse. As their Humanity leaks out from the Dark Sigil, It wouldn't be too far-fetched to believe that some Undead would embrace the nature of the Curse. I think that the Lord of Hollows is the beginning of a new age where Hollows inherit the world order rather than Humanity, or the Lords.
I always look forward to these videos, they're really relaxing and have helped me a lot with my sleeping disorders and anxiety. Keep them coming, please!
One thing no one seems to ask is “why 8 sigils?” After playing the game through a couple times and watching every lore and play through video there is, I can only surmise that the 8 sigils represent 8 Pygmy lords, specifically the ones Gael devours who I assume would be the Furtive Pygmy’s 8 children in contrast to Gwyn’s 4 known children; 8 children that make up the blood of the dark soul, and 8 sigils to make us [the player] a lord of hollows, a lord of the dark soul. Purely conjecture and speculation of course.
I just thought "On nice free levels for dying" then "Oh, free level guy died" then "There's a suspicious looking lady wearing black near the dead body". "She seems trustworthy"
I actually have a question about this topic. It is often speculated that the Dark Souls 1 intro is true as it has no need to be cryptic like other devices used throughout the game (Kaathe) so it is typically quoted as such for both the age of fire and the great cycle but something I never hear quoted is the difference between the endings in DS1 when compared to 3's cycle. "But soon the flames will fade, and only Dark will remain. A man sees not light but only endless nights" and also before the first flame there was no light nor dark, I feel like the age of dark/man was suppose to be something different than what it ended up in 3 but I have no idea and am completely just speculating here. I'm completely open to discussion, I'm doing my best to pick up pieces I don't entirely understand.
The Age of Dark has not happened as of yet for a long period, the Soul of Cinder is an amalgam of all those who have rekindled the flame. So we dont really know 100% what the Age of Dark/Man will be like and with the souls series ended we wont really know leaving up to interpretation and head canon.

How can the dark lord and the lord of hollows be the same thing? Not tryna talk trash, I'm genuinely asking. Because from my understanding, the dark lord is the one that brings forth the age of dark, or in other words, whoever brings on the dark age is crowned as dark lord. And as you've said, the dark age is the age of humans, right? Now this is where i get confused, because from what i understand hollows aren't human, or aren't human anymore so to speak. Hollows are undead that died so many times that they've lost every bit of humanity, sense and thought. They are just (hollow) husks that exist only because they have no other option, and react only on instinct. Don't know if DS2 is considered canon or not, but wasn't the whole point of the ending where you assemble the crown that it doesn't heal the undead curse, but it stops the wearer from going hollow? So that he would effectively have all the time in the world to come up with a solution to the curse? I mean, clearly it didn't work, but still. Then there's also the thing with the endings. In 1 and 3 you have ending where you let the flame die, and are named as the dark lord, but you need to fulfill a specific set of requirements to become the lord of hollows. There wouldn't be 2 different endings if it were the same thing, right? Maybe that's just a technicality, but still, makes sense to me.
from the emergence of the flame, humans took on a fleeting form, as is stated in the lore. humans were not meant to "die" in the first place, it was Gwyn's sin of prolonging the flame and branding humanity with the Darksign (which is different from the Dark Sigil mind you) that causes the hollowing we see in game. hollowing is the natural state of humanity, it is only when the fire fades that humans go hollow (they return to their natural state), a state of undeath. it is possible for a hollow to be sentient (unlike the beef jerky we see scattered across the Undead Burg) as the player character in DS1 can go hollow and still persist on their quest to fulfill the Undead Prophecy, so it would make complete sense that a Lord of Dark is also the Lord of Hollows, as embracing the Dark would also mean returning to your natural place as a human, a hollow.

One becomes the dark lord by extinguishing the flame, and bringing the dark age, and sure that person could also be called the lord of hollow, because he would be the most important hollow at the time. But in the Lord of hollows ending you don't really extinguish the flame, you kinda absorb it, take it's power for yourself, and there's also the whole marriage ritual, but from what i understand that's in order to strenghten your dark sigil.
@@EVeljko you don't absorb the flame, that's what happens during the Usurp the Flame ending when you summon the Firekeeper and kill her before she can extinguish the last vestiges of the flame. In the Lord of Hollows ending you overpower the flame itself, snuffing it out by the sheer weight of the humanity you possess, think of it as the dark soul overpowering the first flame (which despite being in a far weaker form than it's original glory, still requires the Unkindled to accumulate a fuck ton of Dark Sigils before they can attempt to overpower it, going so far as to absorb Anri's sigils as well). The Lord of Dark is also the Lord of Hollows in DS3 because there is no Darkstalker Kaathe to guide the player, instead it is Yuria of the Sable Church of Londor which is known for being inhabited by hollows (over whom the Unkindled One would preside over after their ascendancy to the title of Lord of Dark, thereby making them also the Lord of Hollows). In DS3 specifically, they are one and the same. In DS1, you cannot become the Lord of Hollows since there is no involvement of the Church. You simply usher in the Age of Dark through Kaathe's manipulation and direction.

Londor is a land of hollows. Therefore, due to the intersection, he becomes both. It is not mutually exclusive that becoming the Lord of Dark means you become the Lord of Hollows, and vice versa. At least that's what we have to operate on based on the lore.
