Hey, I know this isn't the throwback to Dark Souls I posted about. It was only after that I realized I had already done a sleep video for the Deep, haha. So enjoy some more Elden Ring! Ever stop to think about how balid was forced to fight against ranni when you do her quest. It makes ranni's statement "i won't be controlled by them" make way more sense. I think the greater will is radagon. The queen has her own agenda but now can't controll her body. It makes sense that after the queen shattered the elden ring. The greater will controlled the queen making them radagon, trying to fix the elden ring. Since it couldn't be fully repaired by the greater will. The greater will used the queen as the catalyst to keep everything together. The greater will wants you to bring back the great runes to help restore the queen to restore the world. We just keep making different decisions then what the greater will wants. We also know who the gloom eye queen is from the chaos flame ending. It can't be the queen. Also it's quite weird that Melina tells us that she was born at the base of the tree and was given a task long ago. Also we know that people can be turned into weapons. its somewhat expressed that to bound the rune of death to a blade a ritual was preformed. What if it required a sacrifice? What if it only killed the body not spirit to bound the blade with death. There is a theory that melinas body is the god slayer greatsword, what if that is similar and thatonly killed the body not spirit. Melina whom was close to the queen (one of the first emperions) she also closely resembles a numen. It would also have her be someone that understands the death rune and how to use it. Considering that ranni first meets us and calls herself renna she has dialog about the player and torrent and torrents former master. My conclusion is that melina is torrents former master. I also have a theory that the snow witch is connected to ranni. That would make sense why renna isn't around. Considering ranni moddled her dolls after renna it seems to fit.

Most the info I got was from the community and the hours of lore videos these wonderful content creators make. The beauty is no one will every really know what's true. :p

So what is the proposed order of events here? The Apostles clearly use abilities linked to the Crucible i.e. Godfrey's tenure as Elden Lord or earlier. Enia describes Destined Death as "plucked from the Golden Order upon its creation" so this must be when Maliketh became the Black Beast, and according to Miriel this coincides with Radagon leaving Rennala to become the second Elden Lord. The Black Blade sword states that Maliketh sealed it away after the Black Knife plot, but we can't really tell whether it is this sealing or the initial holding of the rune which is referenced in e.g. Scouring Black Flame. However I don't know any source which places the GEQ's defeat and the sealing of Death in relation to each other. If the theory is true then the Godskins would have been in control of Death (safely stowed away within Maliketh) for the entire duration of the Golden Order's rule without any success as Godwyn was the first demigod recorded to have died and this marked the beginning of the end for the Golden Order, and Marika was somehow maintaining her secret identity as the GEQ the entire time with Radagon at her side and eventually merging with her. And yet Marika used the Black Knives instead of her Apostles to murder her son? Then _after_ she shattered the Elden Ring Maliketh's kill switch finally activated and he tore her apart, gaining the stone eye and effectively destroying the Gloam-Eyed Queen?
Some other points:
There can be plenty of additional Empyreans we don't know about depending on how much you stretch the timeline, but they would be incredibly ancient. No timing is given between the arrival of the Elden Beast, Pacidusax's reign as Elden Lord, his god being driven away, and Marika's rise to power. In theory this could be compacted into the Elden Beast _being_ the Dragon God, but there could easily be millennia of other ancient civilisations replacing the Elden Ring's vessel with their own Empyreans. Knowledge of them could have been lost through natural means, or Marika/the Golden Order purged the records.
The red hue of Destined Death most likely relates to Ancient Dragon lightning and Crucible era "gold" having a red tint as well. As referenced above Death was "plucked from the Golden Order upon its creation" and this will be the origin of the yellow gold we see today, in the transition from Godfrey's rule to Radagon's. Personally I believe this action to already go against the Greater Will's design as it apparently was Marika's idea to use Maliketh and this removal of Death is the reason everything went to shit later on. Stagnation, zombified nobles, Those Who Live In Death, the fading Erdtree etc. all trace back to things being _supposed_ to die but unable to. Red and white/gold have great significance in real life historical alchemy so that's where the theming comes from.
If Marika was behind the Black Knife plot then that certainly constitutes a betrayal of Maliketh timed between the initial removal of Death and the Shattering. Might still be too late in the timeline, but it does line up nicely with Gurranq's obsession over Deathroot and his "sin". Gurranq's death quote does seem to paint the betrayal as being the shattering of the Elden Ring however: "Marika...why...wouldst thou...gull me? Why...shatter..."
The use of "Dusk" and "Gloam" in reference to death would need to be checked in Japanese, the same goes for Godwyn's title as "Prince" of Death. These could be meaningful, but they could just a easily be basic translations or embellishments where context was not considered by the translators. Godwyn was a prince in life and conflating the end of life with the end of daylight is nothing new.
Dusk and gloam are synonyms to twilight and in "The Ring of the Nibelung" music drama created by German composer Richard Wagner, Gotterdamerung is the Twilight of the Gods which is the event known as Ragnarok in Norse Mythology in which some gods are destined to die. That is likely the inspiration for the GEQ.
@@Demokaze I know they are basically synonymous _in English_ but the question is whether the Japanese lore also uses synonymous or identical terms to describe the GEQ and Godwyn/the "Dusk"born ending.
My Wagner is a little rusty but I don't recall any one particular character serving as the leading godslayer or arbiter of their fate. Especially not a female monarch. In older more authentic tales of Ragnarök it's more like the entire world is torn apart and the gods simply aren't above it all rather than a single antagonist cutting them down - if anything I'd say Destined Death is the analogue to Ragnarök and the GEQ is largely original as she doesn't actually succeed.
Plus Wagner's works are in German so even more translation issues. Both "Zwielicht" and "Dämmerung" are synonymous with the English "twilight" in that they can be used in reference to both the beginning and the end of a day, and also certain phases of the polar "day" or the transition band on a tidally locked planet. By contrast "dusk" and all definitions I've found so far for "gloam" refer specifically to the transition from day to night or "Abenddämmerung" in German.

The Godskins might not have *necessarily* been in opposition to the Greater Will. Death is supposed to be part of the Elden Ring, and we know someone was supposed to succeed Merika eventually. Plus it wouldn't be a From game without someone screwing around with the natural order because they don't want their party to end.

I first heard about her from Vaati, and he said it just fast enough that I misheard her name as the Glowmite Queen... Then, I always wondered why a god of glowing bugs would create the Godskins...
*soothing voice* A question I always asked myself is just how is Maliketh is able to use, possess, or lock away the Rune of Death? He’s only a shadow bound, not a demigod. The best answer I could come up with is that he sealed Marika inside him, who actually was a vessel for the Rune of Death, hence why he only channels the power from his Black Blade which looks like it’s made from Marika’s torn half of her body and leads up to her missing eye that we speculate is the origin of the stone covered Beast Eye/Gloam Eye he gives us. If we are to assume Melina is her daughter then it would explain why her Gloam Eye is revealed to be at the same side of her face. This would also explain the diminishing power of the Godskins since they would’ve received their power from her, the source “the Queen of Death”, Godwyn being the “Prince”. Her corpse is presumably dead since it’s found impaled with a spear bearing traits similar to the power of Maliketh’s Black Blade and her other half sealed into Maliketh himself. That leaves “The Beast Eye” that writhes the only piece of her that’s still “alive” and possibly a source of the Godskins power, the other being the Godslayer’s Greatsword since it’s clearly stated and the fragment Ranni stole which could also explain the piece missing from the Black Blade. The Black Blade has the same brilliance of the black flame and the best explanation for the red hue I could come up with is the red glow from Blaidd’s eyes when he activates his kill switch at the end of Ranni’s questline because she murdered her Two Fingers and is in our pocket as a miniature doll when we confront him. When Enia interprets the Two Fingers for us, she mentions Marika’s “trespass” which all but confirms she pushed Maliketh to that point as well.

Marika's left eye was missing, Gurranq gives you a Gloam Eye, as the Beast Talisman says: "The murky violet iris writhes as if alive". Her being chosen by the two fingers, behind an identity doesn't make her any different from Radagon and his appearance. These are all just different identities and names she goes under throughout the story. Remember, many characters take on different alter egos throughout the story as well!
What I don't get is why Maliketh never turned on Marika the way Blaidd turned on Ranni. Willing or not half of their stated purpose is as a security measure incase someone tries something funny, and Blaidd had no control at all.
Blaidd didn’t turn on Ranni, for years he forsook the fingers along with Ranni, but when it came time to finally and fully betray the greater will, he couldn’t overcome his programming, his mind was scattered and he went feral.

The connection of how Godwyn is prince of death and Marika is the queen of death is actually really impressive. That puts a whole new perspective on it for me.

I still think melina is connected to the goam eyed queen and she is also an empyrean and the sibling of Miquela, and Melenia. It makes some sense considering the name connections and that there are usually three children demigods

I fully subscribe to Marika being the Gloam Eyed Queen. I'd go as far as to say that Melina and Ranni both are aspects of Marika, in the way that Radagon is. Melina was a piece left behind to complete the plan, and Ranni is her escape from the Greater Will. Marika herself is a guest in the Lands Between, being a Numen. Wouldn't be out of character for her to dimension-hop again.

This works out in scale of power too considering, if Marika is the glowmite queen, then she was the strongest being before the greater will got their, due to being able to kill gods, it makes sense the greater will would have to subdue her or get her to join it first, and try to change her into another being(radagon) if it wanted a chance to even start to control the world. It helps explain why as it’s greatest enemy she was still so close to it
And perhaps after that they sent maliketh after her old supporters the gods skins in a way to silence the past
