As a mechanic who works on modern diesels, it about made me cry when you had the exhaust pipes out the way and valve cover popped off in all of 5 minutes 😩😂
That's why Detroit's were prefer engine for owner.Operators ease of mate. Then you can work on the side of the road with just simple hand tools. If you can work on your small block chevy in the garage you can work on a detroit
Hell yeah I want to see a video about the lathe! I've wanted one my whole life. When I had the funds for one, I had no where to put it. Now that I have a place to put one, I don't have the funds. Go figure!
I had a 475 with stock injectors then after 1 yr i pulled them out and put 125 mm what a difference like nite and day talk about power !!! 1986 back in the day awesome engine!! Just a bit thirsty back then fuel was cheap didnt care lol
Wayne you have to be the bravest man I know leaving those injector holes open during the spring swap. I know you couldn't lose the parts but man I would have lost every keeper down them. Always learn something watching your videos. Thanks!
Damn. Had a brand new 475 crate motor in a 85 freightliner conventional after the 445 spun a main bearing. Always wanted to install 125s. Never got a chance though. We had a twin truck that they put 95s or 100s in. That truck was always grossing around 85 or 95 grand. Felt like it was empty 😕 Can't wait to see what 125s do.
Great video! I found the pump you used to prime the fuel system and was able to get my Ford 9000 primed and running after almost 2 years!! Keep up the good work!!!
Sometimes the end nub on an indicator can be unscrewed , and grind a taper on the long rod to sit in on the threads , but not necessary to thread it . Always use the plastic protector over the stem .
The Caddy needs a much sturdier rear end. Ford 9 inch is about as sturdy as one can get. Pretty purple valve springs you put into that Detroit. Valve covers do look a lot better.
It doesn’t matter what rear end he puts under that caddy because if I remember correctly the spiders were welded to do bigger and better burnouts. Which is what killed that rear because when big heavy turds dead hooks while Wayne is given that turbo LS hidding he has hidding under the hood all the beans something is going to self destruct sooner than later. That said unless he were to find one from an late 60’s early 70’s Lincoln of from a same era station wagon so to get the heavier rear end housing and then do a lot of modifications to make it fit I would keep sourcing replacement used Caddy rear ends
many years ago my Uncle who is a retired engineer picked up a huge lathe at a govt surplus auction cheap, he had to disassemble it himself to move it as it weighs nearly 2 ton.........setup his own enginneering business in the little country town he moved to..
has anyone ever noticed it sounds like Wayne is making love to his truck every time he works a tool. I'll say this ol2stroker your passionate that's for sure lmbo. keep up the good work buddy
Wayne, I had to go way back and review the video when you changed the turbo. You talked about a “big blower”. Now that we’re working on bigger injectors, when can we expect the big blower… Of course we’d like to learn about the lathe too! Your videos are always interesting
Watching this video brought back memories of doing that to Johnny manns v12 that was in his pulling truck that Gene Dunn bought ,yea it would wind to roughly 4200,put 125 injectors ,non turbo pistons ,had machine shop put bigger holes in liners then Johnny spun a main bearing
That was a big job actually . Hmm be interesting to see how she goes with that modification. And how it affects fuel economy. I’m sure she will haul ass now . The lathe looks in fantastic condition , I got a lathe and milling machine , so handy I’m a farmer not a machinist Sometimes don’t use the machine for several months and then use it several days in a row . Machines are usually cheap but the tools for them are expensive, buy good tooling , carbide tools for what you are turning. I did recently , huge improvement in my work . All the best mate 👍
Uncle Wayno lol. Good video brother. I’ve been working a ton but still watching sorry some reason my donation stopped going to you frickin dumb. Anyway sick video I found some goodies for you and James for the trucks from an unexpected person. I’ll get in the mail to your P.O. Box. Gonna get a tag though because box is pretty dang big 😂
So when you say ddec springs, are you talking about 60 series springs or did Detroit put the purple springs in ddec 92 series engines? Reason I ask is I have a ddec 8v92 factory set at 500hp and I'm curious if it already has these purple springs from the factory. Thanks
Wayne you might want to check the clearance between the blower rotors and the case before you put a lot of boost on it so you don't stick the blower. PS what did you set the injectors
Does anyone know if any 2-Stroke Detroit Diesels are used in truck or tractor pulling competitions? I realize that turbocharged Cummins, Duramax, and Powerstroke engines are commonly used. However, the turbocharger on the Detroit Diesel engines serve a different purpose if I'm not mistaken. I don't even know if a turbocharger could be added and used like the pulling engines mentioned above?
Oh, yeah. It's Friday. Time to our buddy Wayne work on junk. As I take a break from working on my junk LB7 duramax. Side note, if anyone knows lb7 duramax better than me. I'm thinking my ficm is bad but still not positive. I'm not a professional mechanic. But know a whole lot. Dad was a mechanic. This is the first diesel I've had though. Everything on the powers and grounds and the resistance for injectors is all good. It all started with a crank no start and a U1800 code. I've had the truck started little over a week ago and went out the next day to start it and crank no start again.
Wayne do you have a pair of those v8 peterbilt air sweeps you would be interested in selling? I'm looking for a pair for my 3408, i dont like running without them.
I know you love your Peterbuilt but did they make a 12v92 I think they did but the block is not casted in one piece like the 12v71 ,would you ever replace the engine with a 12v92 ??
3K doesn't sound like much until you consider that its a 2 stroke Thats equivilent to a 4 stroke at 6k Not much time to transfer valve heat into the seat
What is a differential carrier anyway. I think you should beat the window closed in the rearend housing and smear a little silicone over it because you are wanna gonna save all the JB Weld to glue the carrier housing back together with, anyway after you do that and glob the silicone on when you stick it back together because why buy a gasket if they even still make them for that old whore when you can squirt one out like Johnny Wad Holmes on Seka. As I was saying after you squirt out a gasket and mate the carrier to the housing you are gonna wanna fill it up with Lucas or if you saved the old stuff you can steal opps I mean borrow one of your old ladies fine mess kitchen sieve (you know the one she sifts flower with) and poor the old stuff through the sieve and use it again (see aren’t you glad that you saved that empty gear oil bottle) I know this might be hard to believe but when I worked at the ford dealership we used to save all the electric fuel pumps we replaced under warranty when customer bitched they were too loud. Anyway we all had a couple three of these warranty fuel pumps with 4 to 6 feet of fuel hose and pair of wires with alligator clips on them and would pump Engine Oil, ATF, Gear Oil, and Anti-Freeze with them and when one roached out we had plenty more to replace it with. The reason for this long ramble is unless the oil is like molasses in January most in tank electric fuel pumps will pump a lot crap you never thought they could or would.
Wayne-o please let me ask something ok yo? What If i told you that i got 600 plus ftlbs out of a 182 c.i 2 stroke diesel? Sorry Brazilian, non fluent english speaker
As a truck driver for 45 years (now retired) I can't believe all the repairs you make to this truck!!! Just rebuild it and be do. It deserves it!! Stop all the clicks ate and do the right by the truck. I have watched your channel for many years but am now getting very disappointed with you.
Gee like I said that was back in 86 I can't remember exactly what we did but with the big spark plugs in her it was an amazing engine to run down the highway I also put air rams on the breathers that helped too give it more air !

The old PT Cummins were the same way, like working on a 6 cylinder Chevy
Hell yeah I want to see a video about the lathe! I've wanted one my whole life. When I had the funds for one, I had no where to put it. Now that I have a place to put one, I don't have the funds. Go figure!
Sounds about right!!!
That lathe is a solid unit ! I want to see more of it for sure.
I had a 475 with stock injectors then after 1 yr i pulled them out and put 125 mm what a difference like nite and day talk about power !!! 1986 back in the day awesome engine!! Just a bit thirsty back then fuel was cheap didnt care lol
Yea hopefully it stays together 🤣🤣
Well your not running your truck every day over the road so I'm sure as long as you don't get into drag racing or pulling a sled you'll be fine lol
For piston TDC, use 1/4" tube cut with a tubing cutter. The cut will flare the tube and leave a small hole to center to dial guage.
That's a nice looking old monarch lathe, don't see them that clean very often.

It’s Friday, and it’s time for some 2 stroke Detroit action!

125 injectors in 8v92=650 h.p.been there done that, FUN TIMES AHEAD.

Hi Wayne. When you have the valve covers off and the engine is running how come oil isn't splashing all over the engine compartment ? 🤔
It does when u rev ut
@@Ol2Stroker Bummer !
@@Ol2Stroker,,, yepp ,,, !
Detroit 2 cycle engines idle with lower oil pressure than most engines. That does not allow for a lot of flow to the top end.

Yup!
