That’s exactly why I listen to her. It’s purposeful and educational not all “look at me” for 20 min before the content. I love how she gets straight to the point and teaches technique!
We just bought our first house and I meticulously took notes from the previous video. Also the video on painting IKEA furniture. Love your content and calm presentation. Thanks!
I agree with all of your takes 100%. It's amazing how there are certain designs and looks that always looked off to me but I couldn't quite put my finger on it, and your analysis made perfect sense as to what it is that makes a certain look not work. Thank you for sharing.
Omg just the video that I need ❣️❣️❣️❣️ I live in UK all my bedroom has radiators below the window and my living room has lower bay window very odd shape ! Most of the houses are like that here and the majority of people put shorter curtains. It hurts my eye 👀
OMG girl, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! I was looking for this info so bad, I have this weird arched window over patio door, with so much space on top, was so scared to decorate it. You answered my questions:) THANKS
My girlfriend just moved into an apartment where neighbours can look right into and we don't know much about curtains. Your videos really help to not make mistakes while also really urgently buying some emergency curtains.
Hello, love your informative videos, could you please do one on how to choose fabric for curtains and the effect of some common types of fabric? Thanks
Excellent video! The gifs you included were all silent so the video was still calm and humorous without obnoxious screams or whatever shouting audio might’ve been included with the original gif clip. The pictures are great examples and you use arrows to point to what you’re referring to. I rarely comment, but this video was super helpful. Would you do a video on: 1. Do’s and Don’ts for decorating a fireplace mantel 2. Ways to make an apartment rental feel like a home. Everyone says “add pillows, throws, rugs, and plants”, but it feels like something is missing still. Also, I’m not talking about contact paper for counter tops or backsplashes. We aren’t allowed to paint the walls or use wallpaper. 3. How to optimize a bedroom that needs to serve at least 4 purposes - office for 2 people + guest bedroom + art space + cat room (litter boxes & cat tree & food/water bowls) Thanks for considering!!!
thank you for the ideas :) i did already do a video about how to make your rental look better video which I thought was pretty good but for some reason the video didn't get a lot of views - i recommend taking a look as i think it might help you: ruclips.net/video/yMzCsjQAgvw/видео.html take care!!
You are very informative and the photos of many of the different options helped me FINALLY make a decision, which was NOT a small feat! ☺️ I will be hanging beautiful wooden blinds instead of cutains because of a radiator 'problem'. Thank you so much! NanaAnn
Very informational and I hope you can help me with my question. My house has a 9 ft ceiling. From the top of window to the ceiling there is 2 ft 2 inches of drywall space. Can you please let me know where exactly should I hang the curtain rod? 🙏 🙏
Basement windows looks really good with long curtains when you place identical mirrors or identically framed prints beneath.❤️ Thank you for your suggestions. I am moving into a home with two corner windows that but up against each other-ugh. My least favorite look!
Hi. May you please help me with my struggle which is, we have regular size window next to the folding big doors/windows on the same wall with not big gap in between and I have no idea how to put the curtains. We really need them for privacy. I would really appreciate your kind answer. Many thanks! Love watching your videos! All the best ❤️
Suggestions for what you've called "palladian" style arch that needs seasonal coverage to manage light and heat? There are two of them on the same south facing wall that turn our "great room" into a boiler room all summer
I have a palladian window above our entry door (west facing) and have the same problem with the heat. We've been using a pleated half circle temporary shade that diffuser the light and really really helps with the heat. Hopefully that's something you can try, at least as a temporarily solution! It has been a really hot summer :)
This was a great video and addressed most drapery situations. I have a rather difficult window in my son's bedroom oom. A very large arched window above a built-in desk. Where would a roman shade or blind start? Or would you do a drapery even though it will sit on top of the desk? Or a combination for room darkening at night but sheer during the day? Such a struggle!! Any help would be amazing!! The drapery stores just want to sell!
Which panel hems ( top or bottom)do you take to put the rods in? Is it the hems where the label tag is located, or the other end, where's there's no label tag. Thanks!
Love the helpful tips! I was wondering about double rods and layering in bedroom vs a track. I find the rods would look cleaner but then how do you hand it without grommet panels like the curtains from ikea? One set black out snd one set light filtering ?
ok, great tips, but I want to ask how to hang curtains on the oblique ceiling? (in my case there's about 30° slant but the window is straight and I have low ceiling so I'd like to hang the courtains as high as possible, one side of window is 10.6in from ceiling and other 2.7in)
Hi! So I have long narrow windows 2 on opposite sides of my fireplace and also one to the left of my front door and I don't really like blinds. What do I do!!??
I live in Canada so I agree. Those who live in sunny warm places may not rely on their heat as much as we do. I have baseboard heaters under the windows. I altered the drapes to stop about 1/2 inch about the baseboard heater. Make sure you install the baseboard heaters that vent OUT rather than UP.
Question; I have floor to ceiling windows 4/52” wide give or take....the sun really beams in & would dry out my leather furniture....I’ve thought about putting blinds that can withstand the sun less than have way up to protect my furniture & floor to ceiling blackout curtains....what are your suggestions & are there any blinds that instead of going up the normal way they could be open top to bottom.?
Excellent video, very informative. Can you do a video on window treatments for sliding glass doors which need privacy. I have very little space on the sides of a slider, only enough space for 1 curtain panel. My sliders are very high, very wide with transom windows over top. Electric roller shades are expensive unless you know of a good place to buy or another option?
Hi Vivien, I have more than 2 feet distance between my patio doors and the ceiling. Hanging from the ceiling might leave too large a gap. Is it ok to hang about 8 inches above the door trim or should it be higher? Thanks for the great videos.
Hi. What are your suggestions for two windows in one room, but with diffent sizes? How does one know what size rod to get for two different size windows in the same room? Also would that look akward?
I have a tiny basement window and as a day sleeper I need blackout curtains. Blinds aren't going to cut it. I actually liked the curtains on those short windows.
Any rules for windows with dark colours frames? Like dark brown. I always thought it make the window smaller and curtains has to match the colour somehow. Thank you for all the tips. I subscribed from the first video I watched 🤗🤗
Hi🙂 I like to ask, We just get our first apartment, and the window frames are aluminum dark gray with the case for the electrical shades on the top of them . Do yo have any tips to upgrade the look of the windows without using curtains? Thank you so much!! 🙏🙂 I just found your channel and really like it🤗🎨🌼 Have a great day!🏵️
If you can't find curtains long enough, adding a border of one or two coordinating fabrics to the bottom of ready-made curtains is a great option. You have something that is both unique and inexpensive.
Hi, hoping you can help! I have 11ft ceilings but my windows are only 8 ft. If I hang the curtains from the ceiling that leaves a big gap between the curtain rod and window. If I hang them mid-way that leaves a big gap between the rod and the ceiling. HELP! Thanks!
My bay window has a beam in front of it, so can I hang the curtains behind or like inside the bay window or should I rather hang the curtains on the windows
I have 10’ ceilings. The new trend seems to be hanging curtains close to the ceiling. I feel my ceilings feel too high. Can I hang the curtains lower to bring ceilings down? There is so much negative space above. How high do I hang my curtains?
We have ac units above the windows which creates problem in hanging the curtains high, kinda like the radiator problem but above the window. How would one deal with that?
Hi , i have 2 huge windows in my bedroom in a condo community. I am looking for total blackout curtains as i am lucky enough to have a streetlamp in front of my condo and i do not want to be visible from the ends of the curtains from the other units because, well, it's a bedroom.. They measure 71 inches high by 95 and 71 inches wide. I would like to open and close them daily from the center by using only two panels. I am also on a very tight budget. What would you suggest i do? Thank You, W
Ok so,I have NO idea what type of window it is that I need to have addressed but I have like this wooden plank over the top so it almost serves as a built in valance I suppose. It is straight to the top of the wall,so to the ceiling. It comes down maybe a foot. The window has one bigger one in the center and two smaller ones on the sides so a total of three with no wall in between them so one window in essence lol Is this the type of window where people are suppose to hang their curtain/shade inside the frame at the top and not outside of the window? The window goes down to about the back of a sofa. I have steered clear of any valances because I feel the wood at the top serves that purpose. At the same time, curtains outside of the frame, looks off. I have blinds hanging inside of the frame, which looks like they belong. Problem I'm having is, the blinds seem sterile to me. They are white so maybe that's why? But I truly don't think any other color would look right on the outside of my home. Maybe I'm putting too much thought into it but something feels majorly off. Do you think if I did away with the blinds and exchanged them for just panels inside the frame that just covers the window,so no hanging overlap onto the wall, would look ok? I also thought about possibly using the shades that have the white liner toward the back and the design in the front. Problem I'm having is,most of those come with a valance at the top ugh.
I should add that the plank runs across my front door and above the other window, that while it's a smaller window,it too is the same concept of window. So what I'm getting at is, the plank is a run on so sectioning off or treating the windows separate from the outside, doesn't seem to flow with the door in the center. I don't know lol I really wanted to do these black and white boho curtains that I found online but do you think curtains is a no no in a window like this? I have white sheer panels on the outside of the window and it just doesn't look right. Another issue that I'm having is,the wall itself is concrete ugh lol The room was added on to the farmhouse to serve as a mud room/covered porch. The floor itself,is concrete lol the wall to house is wood paneling
Hello! Perhaps some of you can help me. I know Vivienne says just not to do curtains, but I must. I have lupus photosensitivity and blinds/shades don't block enough light. I need blackout curtains. Should I hang them with the rods as close to the width of the window as possible, mount a tieback on the outside edge of each window, and when possible to open the blackouts pull each open to the outside, effectively 'framing' the fireplace? I'm trying to make the best of two less than ideal situations. Thanks.

Very nice and we'll thought out, I understand this is your opinion. However for those of us that are of a more maximalist traditional style the heavier drapes and fancy valances are more suited. Than these of this modern contemporary styling. Window treatments are styled by design and style choice. A country home for example would have blinds with a cute valance on their bay window, whereas our home is more traditional and light contemporary curtains don't work.
This is the only person on RUclips that gets to the point. No irrelevant talking. Im a fan new subie!!!

The only person on youtube that is this thorough and without any attitude. And you look always so calm. Groetjes from The Netherlands.
How can anyone send bad comments to you? Your videos are honestly amazing!
Great tips as always! 😍❤️I am a big fan of keeping the curtains open as much as possible to let the light come in!
Me too! 💛☀️💛

i did a bathroom makeover a few months ago, that bathroom didn't have any windows :) ruclips.net/video/Qe5di21WLlY/видео.html
That’s impressive Vivien, excellent advice, thanks a lot!

Great video! What type of curtain rod style do you recommend with velvet curtains for a high end look? 🤔
My heater isn't directly under my window but right next to it. What type of curtains should I use? Opt for short ones?
What's more elegant for a living room.Printed or plain curtains? Thanks for your help. ❤😊
Wow this is the video I'm been searching for a long time.very informative thank you 😍
How would you suggest hanging a curtain when the window touches the ceiling? Thanks!
Hi! So I have long narrow windows 2 on opposite sides of my fireplace and also one to the left of my front door and I don't really like blinds. What do I do!!??
“You’ll block the heat from reaching your room”

Would you suggest no curtain for a wide width shorter window (not as short as a basement window). I have a 60's ranch style home?
Hello- I love your style!! I really need some affordable white sheers for my bedroom. What would you recommend?
Question; I have floor to ceiling windows 4/52” wide give or take....the sun really beams in & would dry out my leather furniture....I’ve thought about putting blinds that can withstand the sun less than have way up to protect my furniture & floor to ceiling blackout curtains....what are your suggestions & are there any blinds that instead of going up the normal way they could be open top to bottom.?

Thank you for your wisdom I saved this video!!!!
Our window is next to a boxed radiator that sticks out (right side). Would you recommend a single instead of a double panel curtain for this?
Thank you, I enjoyed your ideas very much.

What about blinds? 🙈 and Shutters? Suppose the same applies?
Will you please suggest what type of color combination and types of fabric can be used for Scandinavian style? Thank you.
Could you shed some light on vaulted slanted windows/ceiling? 😫
Love your videos, I’ve watch almost all 😂 in a day I’m definitely a new subscriber here ❤️
If I have sheet curtains and also blackout curtains do we I need a double rod or just have both sets of curtains on a single rod?
If you can't find curtains long enough, adding a border of one or two coordinating fabrics to the bottom of ready-made curtains is a great option. You have something that is both unique and inexpensive.
Really useful knowledge.
Thank you so much

Hey so I got confused when I was shopping and the curtains are written *Taped* with either Unlined or Lined. Please explain to me what it means ?
How would you hang curtains over a sliding door and a large window on the wall? They are different heights.
thank you thank you, so informative 😊 🙏
Hello! Perhaps some of you can help me. I have windows that but up against my fireplace on either side, yet leave approximately 2' of space between the outer edge of each window and each opposing wall. I know Vivienne says just not to do curtains, but I must. I have lupus photosensitivity and blinds/shades don't block enough light. I need blackout curtains. Outstanding content. Thank you.
Is it wrong to nail the rod hooks into the wooden window frame?
Lol@2:40....just noticed Michael Scott
so i have glass double doors, with short windows attached to it, under the windows there is a think radiator. So what to do now.. blinds on the windows is an option, but for the doors blinds wont work. And vise versa ... XD
What about window a/c units?
@6:37 i have the same cathedral ceiling and its impossible to put a rod that would cover the entire window. I tried putting the rod below the arch and it just looked stupid hahaha. Would love to know how to resolve it 🥺
@5:51, What are we calling that gorgeous, super dramatic yet renter friendly paint -- accent piping?
A new good video! I like this very much 💖
So, what's the solution with pets? No curtains? Curtains that extend to the floor are going to have the bottom 2 feet covered in hair on a daily basis... if they don't get shredded or pulled down first.
How does one know what size rod to purchase for windows?
How to hang grommet drapes without them flaring out?
My question is about what size is best for bedroom
2:05 what curtain material would this be? Anyone know where I can get it? Is it an actual curtain or the net that goes behind the curtain?
thanks a lot!
How do you hang curtins that are on STAIRS!!!
What about how to hanging curtains with window acs
