Ancient helmet, needs an update desperately
Don't change a winning team... only minor upgrades needed, for the rest better than every every other helmet of this kind in the world.
@@czondag The venting is still poor and the peak vibrates and resonates, need a big update. Great helmet but its dated and could be improved a lot.
I have this exact model...I run tinted visor most of the time. Would be nice to have a visor change system where the screws are 1/4 turn and captured...have stripped screws in the past...older XD-3 spare screws are heavier PVC,
Just got got this helmet. I will be installing a new tinted visor. Any tips so I don’t strip the screws? You’re not the first person I’ve heard talk about this issue.
This is an amazing helmet, but no mistake the peek pulls your head back at a speed higher than 100km. I love mine, but took the peek out and will be trying it without
Best use case is definitely not a road speeds. More appropriate for back roads and dirt paths at lower speeds.
For whatever reason I don’t get that feeling with this helmet, even at 100 mph, which I rarely ever do
@@Mistro07 Maybe the type of bike and the windshield setup are factors? Many reasons. But mine pulls with the peek. Next season I'll try it on my new bike (KTM SAS 1290) compared to my previous Honday CB500X.
Great helmet got one myself but after what seems like decades in production there are scores of improvements that could be made particularly to how the venting is controlled so instead of producing exactly the same helmet how about they ask their customers what improvements they would like?
Arai is watching the comments here, so any details and thoughts you want to share would be great.
@@UPSHIFT_ONLINE Good, then I think they should look at the control knobs for the vents front and rear and make them less fiddly and much easier to use with gloves when on the move. A 'tactile' click that can be felt through gloves to let you know that you have 'switched' the vent from closed to open and visa versa would be great. Also a magnetic tab type visor closure like Bell use would be so much better than the horribly fiddly closure device that they have now. It is not necessary to make the lock so hard to engage. Bell have proved how easy and painless to use this vital function can be when wearing gloves..

I have yet to find a pair of goggles that fit comfortably within the face opening of my xd-4. I find myself riding more dual sport than trailing riding, so generally the face shield of the xd-4 is a better option for me than the vx-pro4 with goggles. It’s also not practical to have 2 different $600+ helmets when the xd-4 is intended to be configured both ways (just as you’ve suggested in your review). Any luck with compatible goggles for the xd-4?
Every face is different but we have been able to use the Hustle from Scott Sport.
I have the Hustle as well and it fits well enough.
I have a few brands of googles that fit..Scott for one.
Designed in the early 2000’s for the 80s enthusiast....
And we still love it today.

How is the vision thru that visor? I am hearing lots of feedback that the visor distorts vision.
We haven't had any issues with it. Arai has always had a quality shield.

The bike came gray from Suzuki. We changed the tank out with an Acerbis tank and installed a DRZ400SM front fender from Suzuki in the same gray.
Guys i need help!! I have a Dual Sport Royal Enfield helmet, And i want to change it's transparent windscreen to a mirrored or a tinted one. But i can't find one in any offline or even online store! How can i get one?
We really don't know. We haven't even seen a Royal Enfield helmet. We would recommend getting in touch with Royal Enfield directly.
Nice review. I have doubt which one to take, Arai XD-4 or Klim Krios Pro. Maybe some suggestions?
Highly recommend trying them on and seeing which feels the best if you can.

It was a pos anyway. Could never lay flat properly.
@@UPSHIFT_ONLINE they've replaced the pinlock with an "antifog" shield which will never work as good as a double layer shield. Yes, I did have some issues with fine dust leaking through the seal between the inner and outer.
@@LexGrossmansDog bullshit, i have two of the pinlock straight out of the factory original, on the clear and also on the smoked version... both of them works perfect.

Scottish. Stephen is Scottish but has lived in the US for a long time.
really overrated helmet, in 2 years riding experience - too heavy, too loud, peak too low in highest position, strap too short, very flimsy vents. Wouldn't buy it again.
Everyone finds value in different ways. We ride a lot of helmets and we can see where you are coming from, but it's still one of the best helmets on the market. The vents are designed to pop off relatively easily so that they don't snag on anything and pull on your head. The strap is definitely too short.
