    Hi Nerida! The thing I love the most is that you two work hands on with good products and mainly like to pay attention to the reason that a skin may have a problem. It's been a week that I haven't stopped watching your videos and reading all your comments below the videos. I'm an esthetician in Greece and graduated from a 4 year school of Aesthetics & Cosmetology three months ago. You are a role model for me, because you are paying attention to what really works for skin and not what is "fancy" for the clients. My first job was at a beauty institute with lots of fancy machines and when I left that place, I really had started to think that I wanted to change a career. I felt like I didn't like it at all and everything was a lie... But now that I work at a place where we do hands on treatments and use only a few machines, I start to really see differences in peoples faces and of course I love my job! In the next years, I'm definitely travelling to LA just to do a facial with you! Thank you for all the inspiration and knowledge you are spreading :)

    I was wondering if a serum decreased the efficacy of retinols. Good to know that isn't the case. Although, I prefer to use a serum daytime and do retinol at night. My question is regarding salicylic acid and retinols. Can they be used together? Don't they do the same thing? Exfoliation?
    I have acne prone skin and all these products I'm trying to figure out which order to use them all. Salicylic acid toner, benzoil peroxide lotion, retinol, and vitamin C serum. The acne products are very drying so I'm not using them 2x a day anymore.

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад

      Yes, they both exfoliate but are different in how they work on the skin. They can sometimes be used together, but some skins tolerate one better then the other....depends. The items you listed are too strong all together. What is your cleanser? tell me the brand names of what you are using.... I will get back to you after that

    • @Tappystree
      @Tappystree 7 лет назад +1

      I'm using Paula's Choice pore normalizing cleanser, and her acne products; toner 2% salicylic acid, & the 2.5% benzoyl peroxide lotion. The new additions are the vitamin C&E serum with hyaluraonic acid by Yeouth, & Lillyana Naturals I think 2% retinol. I use a light nightime moisturizer, and one with sunscreen during the day, but they don't seem to have much effect on surface dryness. I would say my face is dry and flaky as the day goes, but also really oily at the same time.
      I must thank your for your face washing tips on here. I've changed the way I wash my face and I think that helps.

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад +3

      You need to get back to basics..... what you have is too strong all together. A dry outer layer will not allow for the oil to escape underneath. So you will always have a problem with your skin.
      You could try the rejuvi K cleanser, healing gel, g aha serum and the b lotion. Get the exfoliating mask also. When you have these products let me know so I can tell you how to use them njskincare@aol.com :))

    love these videos. Quick question. what's the best way to get rid of blackheads on the nose and chin?

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад

      Keep your skin clean with cleansing twice at night ...first cleanse use a warm wet wash cloth and exfoliate every week. Just about everyone has blackheads in their T-zone area. But by keeping the skin clean at least you will be able to keep them under control and your pores small.

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  6 лет назад

      We mostly all have them..... but keeping them small requires good cleansing and exfoliation.....as seen in my videos:))

    • @NeridaJoySkincare

      Clarisonic's are good in moderation. Not great for a dry sensitive skin though

    • @marie-christinepelletier9165
      @marie-christinepelletier9165 7 лет назад +2

      Thanks! I tend to use or a few times a week in the evening with a creamy cleanser and a sensitive brush head from their cashmere line. I'm oily with surface dryness and I find the clarisonic along with a vitamin C serum tend to help decongest my skin. Would that make sense? Or do you have other recommendations? I'd love to know what you think :)

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад +2

      sounds good to me Marie-Christine. You could also try a cream exfoliant with a little glycolic to absorb those dead cells. it will get rid of your dryness faster:))

    microneedling has become popular here in Ireland what do you think of this treatment ? love your videos and the fact that they aren't about brand names of products.😊

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад +9

      Microneedling is popular here too, but understand that it stimulates collagen by causing Trama to the skin. Retinol's and AHA's stimulates collagen WITHOUT creating scar tissue and dulling skin tone.

    • @sandrabyrne84
      @sandrabyrne84 7 лет назад +3

      Gosh thanks for replying. I totally agree gently gently is the best approach to our skin so that it works at an optimal level. I have trained with Guinot they use a galvanic and high frequency machine I've seen great results with that. I love learning about the skin is so fascinating what percentage of retinol would you recommend to look for in a product and are they safe to use on a celtic skin which is prone to broken capillaries we see a lot of that skin type in Ireland 😊

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Sandra, Over the counter retinol will not go into to percentages and you could buffer with a non retinol serum prior that supports the little blood vessels :))

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад +5

      Yes, it is safe if you are using a mild buffered retinol. Many brands have mild retinol and always apply a serum that supports your capillaries first i.e. one that may contain arnica or vitamin C.

      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад +1

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  5 лет назад +1

      Diluting the product i.e. glycolic acid will be more buffered in a cream form then a serum or gel. Or, if you are referring to the buffering of the skin, I mean absorbing dead cells rather then harsh scratchy granules.

    Is a buffing product like a physical scrub? Do you recommend niacinamide for skin? What about bha acid exfoliation for oily breakout skin?

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  6 лет назад

      buffering is when a aha or retinol is put into a cream texture to cut back on its intensity. A cream is more buffered then a gel for example. Niacinamides are great but not for people that have thyroid issues or have heat within the body...(people that cannot tolerate tomatoes/spicy foods/alcohol) and possibly sensitivity to B vitamins, niacinamides could be an issue also.

    • @missbabe7703
      @missbabe7703 6 лет назад +1

      Is aha ok in toner/liquid form? And retinol
      In oil? That’s good to know about niacinamide. I can’t do spicy food so I maybe shouldn’t use it

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  6 лет назад

    What about using salicylic acid in conjunction with retinol? I've noticed sometimes my face will itch, especially around my brows and forehead and the top of my cheeks underneath my eyes. Also, Jordan has beautiful teeth ;)

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад +2

      Buffer with a serum. You just don't want to dry the outer skin too much with retinol and salicylic as you might end up with a little topical eczema

      @aznmacboi 7 лет назад +2

    With skin sensitivity to silicones/dimethicones and algae, I have had a difficult time finding both an SPF and a good exfoliant without these ingredients that won't make my skin worse. Aside from staying away from the sun like a vampire, is there anything that someone with these sensitivities to seemingly everything on the market can do?

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад

      Have you tried true mineral makeup brands for you high SPF like color science unforgettable SPF 50. Its great, healing and non comedogenic
      try the rejuvi exfoliating mask with papaya and lemon peel powder also. Keep me posted :))

    • @Gr-jb9uj
      @Gr-jb9uj 7 лет назад +2

      +Nerida, Thank you so much for the suggestions. I will try the Rejuvi, as it does not seem to contain ingredients that I have found myself to have allergic reactions to. Sadly, the Color Science Sunforgettable SPF 50 contains 2 forms of Dimethicone, plus algae in the form of Coralina officinalis. It is frustrating to know that I should be protecting my skin, but my skin does not seem to agree with that philosophy. ;)
      Please keep me mind of you ever come across a magical SPF that might work for me.

      Jennifer

    Thank you so much for your wonderful and educational videos.
    I have a combination skin, oily at the nose and chin (where i mostly break out) and a little bit dehydrated mostly between the eyebrows (where my make up always doesn't sit well) and tiny dry spots on the cheeks mostly near the nose. I use the P50, followed by the serozinc, the darphin hydraskin serum and the la mer moisturizing cream for the day. At night I tend to use hydrating oils and 4 times per week I use the Luna oil from sunday Riley. I know that the mer cream is not supposed to be the best really but my only problem is that with some other moisturisers I noticed that I start sweating at the nose and chin area, something that I don't experience with the la mer cream. Also even though I would like to use the luna oil more frequently, I noticed that it breaks me out a little bit. I was wondering if you have any recommedations for a different moisturiser and a retinol for the night and a sunscreen that will complement those products. Also is it good idea to use the P50 every day? I live in the UK but during summer I travel to Greece where it is extremely hot, should I stop my acids and my retinols during this time?
    I would be grateful if you could give me your opinion.
    Lena.

      I personally am not a lover of oils for the face. I am not familiar with the P50 and the serozinc? But it does seem like you are using creams for a very dry skin. Is that your skin type? Reach out to Jordan Samuel Skin and see if he has his products over in the UK. Yes, retinol needs to be limited in the summer months if you are enjoying the outdoors in Greece.... but it does sounds like fun!

      Use mostly physical sunblocks that contain titanium and zinc. Or mineral sunblocks like the brand colorscience or La Bella Donna:))

    Can retinols be used on sensitive skin?

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  5 лет назад

      Some sensitive skins yes..... very thin skins possibly not. It depends because you can layer them over serums.... and some retinols are very mild. NEVER prescription strength :))

    Nerida, what do you think about an extractor took with a lance on it. Sometimes I get a cystic pimple or very large ones and I can't stand it. I know I probably shouldn't pop it, but when I can tell it's actually ready to be popped, instead of just applying pressure and causing a dermal explosion, should you poke the blemish with a lance or needle type device to make a small hole first to allow the sebum to drain? Also, how often do you recommend doing exfoliation with the AHA's/buffing effect cleansers? Thank you for the help.

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад +2

      Hi Deanna,
      Because we aestheticians in California are not allowed to use lancets I am not able to tell you what to do here. I am not saying it is right or wrong just that I am not able to recommend this. As for exfoliation, if you are more oily 2 or 3 times a week in summer is generally good. Winter 1 or 2 times :)

    Lovely video! I'm curious about using a retinol every night (low strength), do you suggest using various strengths and brands every night or stick to one strength? I use a few different products and brands...
    Also, what are your thoughts on chemical peels, the VI Peel in particular.

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  7 лет назад +2

      Hi there,
      You could use a couple of different, it depends on your skin. I would say whatever makes your skin look great without irritation and dryness .
      I also like some chemical peels for certain skin types and concerns. I do not like chemical peels for dryer aging skin long term but I do like them for a more oily skin with larger pores and scaring.

    • @surfnyolly

      Nerida Joy thank you so much for the response and I appreciate it! Your thoughts on chemical peels make sense too. I think I just wanted to try it bc it's the new/cool thing. I have to realize I'm not cool and don't need my 40 year old skin peeling off! Ha

    Ive heard you mention Murad. Do you have an opinion of the Retinol Youth Renewal serum? I work at a massage envy. Is one retinol better than another when no strength is listed.

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  6 лет назад

      Its all about the formula, its lipoceutical vehicle and what it is combined with. Murad is a safe line...not too strong generally. Within all product lines there are good products and some maybe not so great. And, everyone is different so some will love the product and others not. I have not used this particular retinol product so i am not sure, but I usually like to put retinol on the skin after a serum as a buffer:))

    Hello Nerida,
    Could you please recommend a good retinol product for me (26 years old) given that I have rosacea and I use an acid lotion (P50 PIGM 400 and P50W) morning and night?
    Also, could you please confirm whether I have understood correctly that microcurent devices damage the capillaries? I use a semi professional hand tool that stimulates the facial muscles (xtreem pro if you know it)
    Thank you much! your answer would be very appreciated!

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  6 лет назад

      No, not all micro-curent damages capillaries. But microdermabrasion is not good for capillaries because of its suction. Recommending a retinol is difficult without seeing your skin. But with all retinols you need to layer over a serum. I speak a lot about the q flavonoid which supports capillaries ..... so i would recommend layering. Rejuvi is a great skin care treatment line with retinols also, but you have to layer:))

    • @SonyaGavrylyuk
      @SonyaGavrylyuk 6 лет назад +1

      Thank you so much for your reply!
      I do layer a number of serums (3 water based from biologique recherché ) and a hyaluronic one on top before my moisturiser, as well as a finishing serum (BR as well) on top of my moisturiser.
      Given the extend of layering, would you recommend starting with a retinol cream at night or to introduce a retinol based serum (i am looking into purchasing the rejuvi one if its not too strong).
      and lastly, where do the flavonoid and the retinol (if its a serum) come in the layering order?
      Thank you so much! I am so sad I do not live in US and I am unable to come to you for a treatment!

    • @NeridaJoySkincare
      @NeridaJoySkincare  6 лет назад

      Sounds like a lot of serums.... maybe 2 would be max for me just because your diluting the more you layer. I would use a retinol cream over the serum and the q you could put on as first or second serum or mix the two would be ideal:))

    • @SonyaGavrylyuk
      @SonyaGavrylyuk 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks a lot! I will definitely follow the advice. I understand it should be a night time routine? and no retinol and q complex during the day?
      And just to double check, cause I've been told otherwise, p50 can be used in conjunction with the retinol?

      Yes, PM :)) not AM

  • @harrietlambert1469

    Whilst I very much enjoyed the video, is there any rigorous scientific evidence that retinol cream works better than a moisturising placebo? If it's less than prescription strength, doesn't that mean that it isn't pharmaceutically-active and doesn't need to be regulated? I would love to be convinced otherwise (maybe someone could link me to a paper?) thanks!

    I agree with everything you said except the sunscreen number. Anything over 30 doesn’t work. It’s to make the consumer feel better.Two of my friend’s are dermatologists. I also have two nurses & a Dr in my family. & they all say the same family. It does nothing at all after SPF 30. Nice facial though!
