Hecka yeah! 😎
His recipes smack harder than will smith
If you......really like...an annoying ass voice..... then.... your cool
Love that little "pinch" of sugar.
That's the cooking equivalent of your grandma pinching you for misbehaving XD
I actually laughed out loud at that too haha
“I’m using an artisan organic sustainable hipster cornmeal that was ground by hand with reclaimed stones”-I’m howling! I can definitely get behind these cornmeal pancakes because I’m not a fan of regular pancakes unless they are made really well. Thanks for sharing this recipe even if it was pilfered, lol.
Ah yes hand ground corn meal. Rolled by hand on the thighs of maiden hipsters. This method imparts a fragrant lentil curry sweat overtone to the mix. Absolutely exquisite, and I'll use the word sustainable because you'll buy it if I do.
He forgot to mention the hipster millennials sustainable journey 🥵🤯🤯🤯🥵
Try Hot Rize cornbread mix and self rising flour. No Hot Rize in your area? Martha White has one. And there's Jiffy Mix corn muffin mix.
We started from the batter now we’re here. Chef John is legend. 💖🥞
The pancakes are much like our Greek tiganites, though my mother added feta in the batter while cooking, then served them with honey and crushed walnuts, after frying of course.
That sounds amazing.
@@TalkShowKelly Yes,indeed, got to whip up a batch this Sunday morning. The feta becomes rather creamy making them a savory/sweet treat.
Of course !
So I made the recipe as instructed, but half I added feta cheese (plain ones for the kids). Served with sugared and sliced strawberries, plain Greek yogurt, honey, and toasted walnuts. It was incredible! Thanks for the suggestion, Steve G.
@@TalkShowKelly Excellent! You outdid me in the toppings!
"we started from the batter now we're here..." :D I LOVE this
That's how I make blueberry compote. I don't press it through a strainer and it comes out between a syrup and a jam. I grate in the zest of 1 lemon and the juice of 1/2 a lemon to give it some tang. I make some lemon sour cream pancakes to go with the blueberry compote.
that sounds really good 🤤
We do exactly the same way in TURKIYE when we cook compote and we also DO NOT press it through a strainer ..also add some lemon juice !
That strawberry sauce makes my heart beat faster😄😍 It looks so fragrant and sweet and tasty and...I want to eat those pancakes immediately!
Yeah but it’s funny he stressed about lemon seeds lol. Knowing he’s using a strainer.
My only concern is I might want a thicker strawberry syrup which only requires a tsp of cornstarch. But maybe that thin syrup is good.

I love the honesty when he says, "I can't prove it" so many people want to insist they are right about everything all the time.
Well I'm right about everything. I can't prove it, but it's sumptin' that sounds right.
Why am I laughing so much for a recipe video. “We started from the batter now we’re here”… amazing!
lol my favorite long-running food wishes joke is when Chef John's voiceover mentions a pinch of sugar, followed by the video pouring like a whole cup in there
Same! I just about fell out of my chair. Then realized it must be a joke.
Didn’t he say punch?
😂 punch.
@@kathleenvigliano9642 Ha! I guess I suffer from CHS. (Can't Hear Sh*t) 😁
I came here to say the same thing!
I’m glad you mentioned a substitute for the buttermilk! No one ever does that and it’s literally not possible to find in Sweden 🇸🇪
Imagine this with Lingonberry sauce 😍
I wonder why you can’t get buttermilk in Sweden? I have an idea for you. I recently found a powdered buttermilk mix that you mix with water. It works pretty good. I’ve used it in a few recipes now. I’m sure you can order it from Amazon. I get it from Walmart here in the states.

@@SVMSICE Good idea. I’ve always wanted to make homemade ranch sauce, since that is not available either haha. Except for a powdered version that doesn’t taste the same imo
You can use filmjölk i Sverige!
"if I can't see it, it's not there" I do like your way of thinking! :)
These look delicious, I have to try them soon!
"I had a knife in my hand, and I do enjoy cutting things." - Chef John, on trial for murder.
Don't be crazy, he would never get caught
But could you imagine the new prison recipe videos.
"... and that's how you make prison wine, but we don't talk about that because you are the Bruno of your Pruno and snitches get stitches"
Chef John would make the best grilled cheese off the radiator
😆😆😆
Great technique! By the look of the final batter I wouldn't have thought they would end up so light and tender, but there was enough moisture cornered up in there!
I saw what you did there.
Strawberry syrup is such a treat! I usually make compote using frozen berries instead, but fresh in season berries are definitely the best!
The 'Drake's of rotating your pancakes! LOL
you should try cachapas, they are also corn based pancakes. the best cachapas use some actual corn for the texture, and they go really well with more savory toppings like queso de mano or cotija cheese
Where are they from?
@@rondalfo9796 cachapas are a venezuelan thing
Thank you for sharing! I'll look up a recipe and try this!
AGREED! Cachapas changed my view on pancakes forever; I vote for Chef John doing a version of this!
I learned making cachapas from my latina roommate, they are delish 💕
I have tried making these before unsuccessfully. Thanks to buttermilk it’s all changed and they came out great. Next time I’m going to add some candied jalapeños. Thank you Chef John.
Another recipe to die for! Sounds like a fabulous idea for dinner too. Thanks Chef John.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful recipe.👍🏽👍🏽
I love cornmeal pancakes so I'll definitely try pre-cooking the corn meal next time. I will have to thin out the batter some, however, since I actually cook my pancakes in a waffle iron so that all the little "cups" will hold more syrup.💖💖
Chef John, Great tip. I've been cooking for 58 years and enjoy seeing good cooking and learning new tricks. Thanks for the great videos . Jim in Oaxaca
Cannot wait to make these!
Along with the Strawberry syrup...and the Creme Fraiche!
😍🍓🥞

I had a cooking accident many years ago. Rather than adding vanilla extract, I used lemon extract. The combination of lemon flavored pancakes with maple syrup was awesome. I have to think that, lemon extract in these would be awesome as well. Because strawberries and lemon are great combination 🤤
watching and doing CJ`s recipes have given me confidence in trying new things. And improved my skills in the kitchen.
Brilliant, turning grits and strawberry jam into pancakes and syrup. Looks delicious, can't wait to try it.
I was so excited as soon as I saw these that I just made them for dinner 😆 you’re right, they are so smooth and like no other cornmeal pancake/bread I’ve ever had before!
Please do look so much more tasty than the flat gritty ones that I've had before. Fresh strawberry syrups always good
These remind me of fried corn meal mush of my childhood. My mom would slice cold firm mush, brown it, serve with maple syrup, She did the same with left over farina or cream of wheat.
AWESOME. Just Sunday I made strawberry pancakes with strawberry-cream cheese spread in lieu of a syrup. Served with homemade beef breakfast sausage and scrambled eggs. My wife was very happy. You married men know that means a happy life.
Just made this, and once again, Chef John comes through, with an utter bootcrush of the numerous Euro ASMR cooking video pretenders.
I just made these with cloudberries for the syrup, and oh my word they were the best pancakes and the best syrup I've ever had. Thanks chef.
I just made these with self rising flour and cornbread mix ( Martha White). Now I must cook more for my family.
The words that came out of my mouth when you flipped the pancakes: " That looks so f'n good!". Definately trying this recipe Chef!
Never heard of a corn pancake...I love pancakes when made right and also I love corn bread so omg what sounds better then them both combined.. yum yum. Next time I grind some corn I so gotta try this. 😋
That was the most extra cornmeal flex and I fuckin loved it. Brb sourcing artisan, reclaimed-stone-ground cornmeal.
🥞 Yum! Wishing I had those cornbread pancakes today! 🍓 Strawberry syrup topping from fresh berries is my favorite!
ruclips.net/video/MVvOwBmL6pY/видео.html
I have been making spoon bread since 1965. I always cooked my cornmeal first. Now I'll try this to make pancakes...LOL
Oh boy they look good!
I can imagine they'd also be nice with a savoury breakfast like eggs & black pudding. But yes, made with some tart fresh local raspberries I could eat them sweet to.
Many thanks for the recipe.
We made these today and they were as delicious as they looked! I knew I was going to like them but I was honestly shocked at how much I loved the combination. The pancakes were both light & creamy. We’re making these again but trying Steve G’s version with feta, honey & toasted walnuts!
Greatly appreciated.. I will enjoy . No doubt about it .I thank you for this eye opening breakfast suggestion. Take care. Best regards from Istanbul-TURKIYE
Hi John! Great recipe.
I use boiling water to hydrate my corn meal when I make cornbread with the same result, a more tender, less gritty cornbread. Enjoy!
Thank you sir. Another winner right up there with your Dutch baby.
These look amazing, I’m going to make these next weekend!
This looks so good I hope I dream about them tonight so I can remember to get the strawberries in the morning
I just made a savory version of these pancakes with some leftovers and cotija cheese. It turned out better than I hoped.
You can hull the berries with a metal drinking straw. Just push from the point of the berry to the stem. The straw will remove everything necessary if you aim right. Fast and efficient with minimal berry loss.
*_Perfect food! Who agree with me?_* 😚
Once again you have shown us an amazing recipe 👍
I’m going to make these for Sunday brunch for my 93 year old mom and it’s going to give her a ton of memories 🙏🏻
Thanks chef John keep it up!!😋
Never tried cornbread (or cornmeal) pancakes, looks good! I’ll be giving this a shot!
My gf watched this with me once and replicated it with jiffy cornbread minutes later. Enjoying the blueberry sauce again now on this morning. Started from the batter now we here, love ya chef John!
My phone was in my pocket as I was cleaning and your videos was chosen by my elbow and I am happy that happened, really enjoyed listening to this recipe and your voice remind me of victor from that's so raven, his character was a chef btw lol
These are the prettiest strawberries I've ever seen.
Love your "pinch" of sugar! Pancakes look delish. Will be trying them soon, but not with hipster cornmeal. Hope the regular stuff works out the same.
I'd like to share with you, my trick to make my corn bread corn fritters way better than anyone else's. I like to soak 1 cup of corn meal in 1 cup of milk with a dash or two of vinegary hot sauce for 20 minutes to an hour on the counter before I mix in an egg and a mixture of 1 cup of flour, 1 tbsp baking powder, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp salt. I then fold in some whole kernel corn and some diced jalepenos, and deep fry tbsp fulls until golden and fluffy. They almost turn themselves thanks to the baking powder.
Started from the batter now we’re here 💀💀💀 Chef John is goated
I actually just soak the cornmeal in whatever liquid I'm using to get rid of the grittiness; no cooking required. I've been using this trick to make my cornbread taste moister for a while now. That said, cooking the cornmeal probably is quicker than soaking, which is why getting the cornmeal in liquid is usually the first thing I do if I'm making cornbread for a meal.
Chef John, you are the Wyatt Earp of your surp! In other words, however you say it is O.K.
This is absolutely Perfecto! I’ve been watching Your Videos for years. This one is an Academy Award!
Awesome Chef John. Especially like the trick to eliminate the grittiness of the ground corn
These are just fantastic! Thank you!
“We started from the Batter now we’re here” Chef 😂😂😂😂 epic quote
This makes my southern soul so happy 🥰🥰🥰
Chef you are the OG RUclips Chef.
Ooooh I think that parcooking of the cornmeal is just the thing to fix up a skillet pancake recipe that wasn't quite working for me. Thank you for showing us the technique!
I will definitely be trying this recipe.
Thank you Chef John
I love cornmeal pancakes so I'm sure I'll love cornbread pancakes. Thank you Chef John!
One cup of milk plus a tablespoon of lemon juice. Wait a few minutes for it to thicken.. Buttermilk
Clabbered milk
Yum ! I am going to try this with blueberries
The pronunciation of "surp" also explains Chef John's use of "and as all-wheeze" - it's just being from western New York or NE PA or eastern Ohio. :)
As soon as I hear Chef John's voice, I'm hitting the like button!!!
“We started from the batter, now we here.” Would make a great shirt.
Looks so delicious.🍓Thank you!
I luv kornbread! I’m sure I’m gonna luv these!!!😋
You have the best pancake recipes. Thank you for sharing.
These look really yummy. Can’t wait to make.
I made these with the strawberriy syrup and they are a favorite! Thank ❤ you!
started from the butter now we here - coool 😎
I adore your work. You're so funny and have an amazingly soothing voice. I binge watch your videos when ever I'm home alone. (because I don't control the remote otherwise ) Keep it up, much love 😍
You read my mind! I wanted to find a cornbread pancake recipe for this weekend :)
Best video you have released in a long time.
Looks fantastic! I think I can make these vegan by using whipped chickpea water in place of the eggs, and use some oat milk mixed with vinegar instead of buttermilk, and olive oil instead of butter… worth a try ❤️
I made this recipe today (except the syrup). I wanted to adjust the ingredients for 1 or 2 persons, so I made 6 cornbread muffins instead of pancakes. I had made pancakes a few days ago with the same idea in mind for one or two persons. They were delicious, but I wanted to see if I could make breadlike muffins with my adjustments. And they turned out beautiful. And I added a some cayenne pepper, like Chef John usually likes to do. I have a gluten free diet, so I used gluten free flour plus 1/4 tsp of xanthan gum in the flour mixture. The amount was exactly enough for 6 muffins, I had to scrape the pan completely empty. That was fine, no waste.
You can make them with more batter and freeze the pancakes or muffins to eat it later!
I need to try these with my choke cherry syrup. Yum
And this moment finally arrived 🥞🍓 🍴 🧈☕️😋
Mmm...sorghum syrup would be awesome with these
Started from the batter now we're here!!!
There's nothing wrong with cornbread pancakes. I make this a lot for my family ❤❤
Thanks!!!! Reclaimed stones. That's brilliant 😂😂😂
The drake jokes made me giggle out loud 🤣😂 you’re still one my favorite chefs besides my husband 👨🍳
“Pinch of sugar” made me chuckle
Had these as a child with sorghum suryp and a slice of fried bacon. Granny cooked her batter as well. Cooking the batter was not commonly done but once people ate here corn cakes they wanted to know how she did it.
Omg I'm so hungry now 😭😭😭... im gonna have these with sausages for dinner omg
Interesting combo. You couldn't pick any nicer looking strawberries.
I wanna try this out in a waffle iron!
Waffles? That sound excellent.
wow for the first time made the first 100 likes! and this recipe looks delicious, will make it this weekend!
Wow chef John. 👨🍳 I need to try this!
Is it just me or those strawberries look way too gorgeous to become a syrup 😂
I do something similar. I use a well cooked polenta/grits and add it to my normal pancake recipe. I just add a little extra baking powder.
