Just to note to new reloaders, Most serious shooters don't use sabot rifle rounds due to poor or inconsistent accuracy. The reported problem appear to be that the sabots do not separate from the projectiles in a consistent manor which effects stability and thus accuracy.

Swedes are getting 0.698 inch 5 shot groups in their Arctic Warfare 27 inch bolt guns at 100 yards with saboted 6 gram (92.6 grain) 0.19 caliber saboted tungsten projectiles.
      1,260 m/s muzzle velocity (4,133.808 fps).
      From .308 Winchester.
This led me to the understanding that an Ackley Improved .338 Federal cartridge can get 4,300 fps from a 20 inch barreled .308-chambered platform.
      Slightly modified.
      3,698 ft/lbs.
Same ft/lbs as the 190 grain 2,960 fps 'Navy load' for 24" barreled .300 Winchester Magnums.

I have a huge love hate relationship with the Labradar! As you said, after getting the external trigger, it fixed all the reading errors. Only downside is that sometimes while cycling the bolt, the external trigger will move enough to tell the Labradar that a round was fired and it will again give an error. Frustrating to say the least.

@4:08 You said you haven't changed your settings yet on the Labradar and you got a reading from the hunting rifle. That explains why you didn't get a reading from the pistol earlier -- the Labradar has selectable speed ranges (handgun, rifle, archery) that correspond to 600 fps to 1600 fps, 1600 fps to 3900 fps, and 66 fps to 600 fps, respectively. You also need to set the distance between the barrel and Labradar correctly (6", 12", 18").

Concerning accuracy testing and velocity testing at the same time with the Magneto Speed or Sporter. Yes you can, you can buy system to mount them via a picatinny or arca rail on the stock of the rifle. So, you see no POI change. I bought one of the first models out, but it was rather bulky. My thoughts on this. The gasses of smokeless firearm powder achieves a maximum of 5,000 fps. There fore No projectile from a rifled barrel is going to exceed that.
Wildcat cartridges have been played with since the invention of the brass cased cartridge. 4,000 fps is pretty much maximum in bullet speed, no matter the size or powder behind it. At that speed a bullet not designed for it will turn to powder in midair. And I'm calling B.S, on the 4,600 fps this guy's claiming.

Higher cartridge pressure and faster bullets do NOT burn barrels. I really wish people would learn this.
What burns barrels is unburnt powder burning down the barrel. The old way of making bullets faster was to use a slower burning powder so you turn the barrel into a combustion chamber.
The new 80,000 psi military round Sig developed will not burn barrels because the powder burns quicker in the case. That is why they can pair it with a 13” barrel and get better than .308 performance.
Moreover, how fast copper slides over steel will never hurt the steel. Copper is too soft to damage the barrel.

I HAVE A CHALLENGE FOR YOU:
3D print a sabot for .50BMG and put a 7.62mm bullet in the sabot, the most long, graceful, smooth, streamlined, boat-tailed bullet (solid copper if you can get it) in the universe.
You will need smaller-grain powder to make sure the burn keeps up with the speed of the projectile, or you will be chucking lots of unburned cordite out the end of your barrel due to the mv being over a mile per second. Use cordite tuned in grain size for a 15-20 inch barrel. You will NOT build up excessive chamber pressure, because the super-light sabot and bullet will move far down the barrel much faster than a much-fatter and much-heavier .50BMG.
Heck, step right up and put it in a 48" barrel actual .50BMG barrel!
Don't worry about insufficient bullet stability, as the bullet at 5280fps will be turning FAR faster than the normal .50 BMG round!
Maybe use a mix of normal, large-grain .50BMG powder and smaller-grain shorter-barrel powder.
Will you originate and execute the world's first 1 MILE PER SECOND challenge?
Imagine the insane accuracy of a bullet that crosses 1000 yards in about 0.6 seconds. You may need a specially-shaped super-long-ogive bullet to ensure you comply with area rule better than a normal-ogive bullet.
Imagine a bullet that, if fired straight level, will only fall 62.5 inches in 1000 yards.
    A benchrest-shooting revolution!
That is approximately 108,000 g forces of acceleration. You may need a super-rigid alloy for the bullet
You will only have 0.00075 seconds to burn the entire powder charge if you want it burned entirely by about halfway up the barrel.. What powders do you know that will burn at that rate?
The FACT is that two-mile sniping is only not done because people have been too lazy to advance the science, just like we could have had 747's in the garden of Eden, but, alas.

Hornady's reloading manual has 4400 fps for .204 Ruger, 4400 for 22-250, and 4500 for 220 Swift. Back in the 1970s there was an ammo company that made a standard round that used a sabot. Funny maybe, but when you show up at the range with your giant orange LabRadar chronograph, it's like driving up to McDonalds in a bright red Ferrari. Everyone thinks you're a showoff. And I totally agree about wasting ammo with the LabRadar -- I've had so many missed shot readings that sometimes I think it's broken and then all of a sudden it starts working again.

Just for those of us who reload, what is the weight of the 'itty bitty' bullet?
Just for for general use: My main interest in handguns (other than the historical interest in old stuff) is self defense. Velocity of a handgun round to avoid trajectory 'drop' is insignificant out to fifty yards or so. (Yes, there is drop, but insignificant as to registration in defensive situations.) Just in general, I prefer bullet weight to velocity and kinetic energy for both hunting rounds and defense rounds.
Speaking to barrel life is good to hear. Really. Newer shooters need to understand this.
I've had several chronographs myself. The best, most reliable and trouble free was the Chrony chronograph, not made anymore of course. I have a CED that the sensors die after a very short time and cost $36.00 (plus shipping) to replace. I have a useless LabRadar model. It will not work and the customer service tells me to lump it. To be fair, some friends have them and find them quite useful. I just looked up the FX model and it runs about a grand. I'm not likely to try one any time soon. But with your comments, I may at that.

This video is total waste of time. PO Ackley did this in 1960 with the "22 EargesplittenLloudenboomer," which was a 378 Weatherby necked down to .22 calibre. Velocities were just over 5,000 fps with barrel life a couple of dozen rounds. Then we had Germany's "Paris Gun" back in 1918 during WWI that shot a 280 lb. projectile 82 miles at 5,300 fps. Barrel life was so short that the shells had to be numbered and made with slightly increasing diameter after each shot to compensate for bore wear.

You get what you pay for, I had 3-4 "ok" to me... sub $500 scopes. Just a waste of money, chasing 0 turrets not consistent. • @Jeff.78
      @Jeff.78 Год назад +1

I'd spend a bit more on the rifle. The scope only shows you where your bullet goes. Binoculars should be of higher quality for better target ID.
Consider how far your longest shot will be. Under 300-ish yds, you won't need a top tier scope. Some shooters like to count eyelashes on their quarry before they turn off their lights, but it's not required.
I typically use my grandfather's.30-30 with those awful, yet effective, buckhorn sights, cuz nostalgia. A friend of mine uses a Remington 700 in .308 with some 2-8x lpvo (don't recall the brand) and he has no issues to 300yds.
With $1,500 to play with, you can get a lot of value and quality, the best of both worlds.
Consider your task and ability (keep training nonetheless) and talk to several people to get a general consensus. Then, decide what's best for you.
      ✌️😎
