Wow! I've never done this because I thought I might mess it up. But this looks really easy! It helps that I have a champagne outback and the same headlights, now I know what a difference it will make. Thanks for the vid!
I know you are a mechanic and not a body man. I appreciate having some exterior restoration/fix, because after you restore anything mechanical, you will feel better convincing yourself the car was mint from the go. Depending on the lens condition and patience. 1000, 1500, 2000 wet/dry done wet and follow with flitz polish. Just do it right. Finish with a UV clear coat, several light coats. Avoid overspray. Now fix your wheels, learn bodywork and it's a classic collectable.
If you don't have such solution, you can use sandpaper from p600 up to p1200 with some water, then a couple of thin layers of an automotive acrylic clear coat. You will get the same result, probably a little bit cheaper. Sorry for bad english, cheers from Russia =)
Next you will be buying a 3.6 and making videos on it. lol Great video. I did this last year to the SVX and it turned out great. Haven't need it to do it to my Bean wagon yet, but will if it gets oxidized.
+cottonzway used this on my SVX too. I've got 3 EG33s and 5 EZ30Ds. I daily an EZ30D. Looks like I'd have more H6 content. Haha. Hopefully I will soon. Really need to build a shop.
+James Greig trust me, my new Legacy, or Liberty to say, will be getting lots of work. Be pulling the engine soon. Lots of suspension things coming too.
Looking at the haze before you did the buffing it looks almost the same after you did the buffing and applied the coating? And if all this fails buy new headlight assemblies for $431.65 each side from Subaru parts!
I have a 2001 Subaru Legacy Wagon with 195k miles. It was our family car for years and then it sat. I fixed it up to drive. That's just the back story but when I'm driving and I get on the gas a lot,(it gets worse the more I push the pedal down) it kind of bogs down and the rpms stay where they were at then after about a second and a half the rmps shoot you and the car goes. When I went to autozone to see what the check engine light was it was a knock sensor. I didn't wanna buy there 80$ one so I found a cheap one online and put it in, it seemed to mostly help but not all the way. I think the knock sensor is bad again because the check engine light comes on and off, what should I do ?
Get the car scanned again for codes. If the knock sensor code is active, I'd try to find an OEM Subaru knock sensor. Did you torque the sensor with a torque wrench? Correct torque is essential for proper operation of the knock sensor. Torque should be 24Nm or 17.4ft.lbs. on a 2.5L. Have you changed the fuel filter? How are the spark plugs and wires? Checked the air filter?
Spark plugs and air filter are good, im planning on changing the fuel filter soon sense it's pretty cheap, and no I don't own a torque wrench I'll have to borrow one from a friend next time. Thank you!
+Cereal it would probably help to loosen the knock sensor and torque it to spec. When you take it loose look the sensor over. If the sensor was over tightened, it will cracked. Cracked knock sensors detect false knock. Look for cracks in the black plastic of the sensor. If you're near a pull-a-part or salvage yard, go grab an OE Subaru sensor off another 2.5. Just check the used sensor for cracks before installing it. Hopefully this helps.
Nice job.... i have a 2003 subaru outback the harmonic balancer went out on it so i changed it and put it back together but when i start it the engine sounds fine when running but after shut it off the harmonic balancer turns left to right 2 to 3 times what would cause that i checked the timing and it is correct thanks.
Great video! What a coincidence, I just bought that Meguair's Perfect Clarity Kit about three weeks ago to use on our Subie. Haven't used it yet, though. I see your method is different than what Meguiar's recommends. The main differences I noticed are: 1) You applied the first step abrasive cleaner in a circular fashion instead of a straight back and forth method 2) You cleaned all of the first step solution off with alcohol before proceeding with the second-step sealant Why did you switch it up?
Sweet. I knew there was a method to your madness, haha. I'll do it your way. Meguiar's is invested in their "Two-Step" marketing, so they're trying to push that.
+Skyler Hitz well, they say to remove cleaner with a damp cloth, the alcohol just completely removes all residue, leaving the best possible surface for the clear coat to adhere. They also say you can use the compound on there Power DA system, which spins in a circular motion. I didn't do too much modification to their instructions.
Good points. Yeah, I haven't cracked open the box yet, but I did watch a couple of their brand videos for the product online. The addition of the alcohol is a great idea.
Well, timing belt needs to be replaced, HG are blown, slow leak, no over heating, but still need to be done. Steering wheel leather was torn, driver seat leather torn, smoked in (Yuck), blown rear struts, exhaust leaks, and airbag light was on. Haha. Everything is fixed now aside from the HG and TB/WP.

Great video sir! Love the uncut footage of all the work, gives really good tutorial on how and how long you need to rub it

I'm impressed. Great video, thanks for posting it up on RUclips
Good evening, thanks for another great video. I've always used 3M Imperial glaze then Collinites insulator wax.

Awesome results, great vid, nice tips. I definitely learned something. Thank you!
watching your videos is oddly therapeutic...
thank you!

Epic to see you working on Gen 4's mate. I'd love to see a guide on doing the rear diff bushes on this.

I like the good ol Mothers mag & aluminum polish and a buffer. Faster cheaper and turns out better i believe.
How long it last? Any of the non clear coat methods on my 05 LGT revert back to crap 4 months later.
+t436 I'm at two years and still clear using this method on my 1998 LGT's JDM Kouki headlights.
Looking good
Beautiful
Love the video's bro. Could you tell me where I'd go to purchase a new set of Gen4 headlights? Not as easy as I thought it'd be to find them online.
Subaru still sells genuine ones. I've seen plenty of Depo and TYC branded ones on Amazon and eBay.
Wow so great!gonna try this soon and tell u the result! Thanks mr subaru ;)
+Eric So you're welcome.
Beautifull finish, does it work in fog lights too?
+Rulius Raul Estevez Vargas yes, it does. Works on all plastic lenses.
I've just purchased a 2006 STI Hawkeye and the passenger side headlamp is totally brown yet the other one looks new, wonder if this will do the job?
Possible. May have water/dirt inside. May just have to be replaced.
@@MrSubaru1387 might be worth trying a little T Cut before.

Like the engine is rocking left and right rather than coming to a full stop?
Just the balancer

can a person do the cleaning step twice for clarity or does it do the best it can after 1 time?
+habitual fpv you can repeat the cleaning step until desired results are acquired.
I tried buying 2 brand new headlight assemblies and found they've been discontinued.
How long does this last?
that was sooo simple
dumb question lol but normal rubbing alcohol?
91% isopropyl alcohol
@@MrSubaru1387 gonna give it a try man i appreciate you & your vids
in minute 4:00 is that a little spider that comes out from the bottom of the headlight? :D
+Felipe Martinez that was an ant. Found a few crawling around.
Now she looks like 3K$, even though you bought it for 2k hehe
