@@Pitbulljor 😂😂😂
@@Pitbulljor I need another 1997 type of adaptation. The art of it was pretty much as good as it gets and it told a lot.
@@geetuecole2260 yes agreed hopefully a competent studio picks berserk up
@@Pitbulljor yeah but we need more than we got tho. The art from 97’s adaptation is the only one that made you feel the action versus the other adaptations. With Berserk you got to have some rough edges in your art versus tryna have it slick and 4k because you have to rep the era it was in and the characters of the story.
I’m confident Griffith will take this defeat like a champ and that there will be no long-lasting repercussions.
I reckon he will be fine
Hey, uhh..

Let's hope Griffith won't take this loss too hard. After all, Guts just wants to follow his own dreams.
Ye exactly
But he did 😂
Griffith is the biggest scum of the Earth
@@gamefreezer14
No he didn't!
He accepted the fact that Guts wanted to go his own way.
;)
Well the tragic part is, what Guts actually yearned for all this time was companionship which the band provided for him.
Although even if Guts stayed Griffith would have broken down in some way or another and given in to the Behelit, Guts leaving ironically sped up the process.
This duel for Griffith was essentially “if I can’t have you nobody can”
I swear 😂
Not even essentially it was that. “You’re mine. That’s all you ever will be” he was going to kill guts here if he could’ve.
Exactly. It’s hilarious how Griffith stated his intentions day one.
It's Guts monologue at the end that gets me everytime. He really cared for Griffith and wanted the best for him, even when he had to leave.
Yes. Sadly Griffith is a sore loser and control freak
Sadly he was dead wrong & his decision to leave totally backfired.
Why did Guts have to leave?
@NG Yt Because he wanted to find his own dream so that Griffith would respect him as an equal and so that he could respect himself.
@@grosslyDese2060 Guts didn’t have a dream or a purpose so he wanted to find his own path in life. When he overheard him talk to the princess, he was putting together that Griffith looked at him as his equal so he wanted him to find his own dream as Griffith has his. Too bad that Griffith blamed him for his own failures that activated the Egg of the King. Guts cared for him but Griffith wanted to basically control him for his desires. Guts was one of the reasons he got so far in his dream but Griffith felt like his lose himself without his “friend” beside him because he value Guts as much as his dream.
2:41 Griffith's inner monologue is the one hint to the true ending of Berserk. Guts only defeats Grifith if he is clear, empty, present. Guts has to keep from going Berserk(1997).
That's a great theory tbh
@alihamza14725 honestly, if the final showdown is a mirror to this but with end story strength. White Hawk Griffith V.S. Black Sword Guts, one strike to end it all, that would be so fitting, even with Casca and Rickert (and any living godhand) standing aside the same way, yet they all are brimming with hatred, disgust, rage, begging for Guts to go all out, even Griffith. Yet Guts' clear head gives Griffith his final monologue; fear, memory of this moment, his hesitation of his first defeat leading to his final.

Dayyum, nice catch!
Indeed, if he goes Berserk (2026) he might have a chance
"Your life, your death. They are both mine."
Spoken like a true control freak.
Yes lol
@Pitbull jor 3:35 I like that he was grinning just before Guts broke his sword. He was so confident that he was going win like he did the first time.
@@terrelltownsend8016 ikr it was a great telling between both personalities too

0:19 "Would you settle for a smile and a fond farewell?"
I honestly like this line better than the manga. There's a gentle sweetness in it that the line in the manga doesn't really have that I feel perfectly captures Guts at this point.
Agreed mate
"Would you settle for a smile and a fond farewell?"
The original Japanese version has exactly this line, but it was changed in the translation.
@Pitbulljor me and my manager who's been flirting with me and letting me rub her feet and giving me semi foot jobs while we are at work. When she reveals she has a 7 foot tall boy friend and she was sjust tooling with me.
it also hints at how their fight began, griffith intended to win guts over with just a talk, peacefully, but guts insisted they fight. the contrast is intentional
I swear the original version, Guts holds his breathe and exhales after he cuts through Griffiths blade. I remember vividly as he releases that big breathe of air after the downward swing.
Griffith went through all that calculation just to forget "big sword go shwing"
He wavered in the execution.
The amount of discipline and strength it takes to stop mid swing with that giant sword is crazy. I can't wait for the Blu-ray of this.
Griffith got what he wanted, he wanted people to have their own dreams and Guts was like "okay, I'm out" and Griffith was like "wait, nooo". After this Griffith didn't do anything wrong, Guts returned after his journey and break so they all lived happily ever after, laughed at their past life and were glad nothing bad happened in the end. Griffith became king and Guts became captain of the army in the country.
😭😭😭😭
the good ending that will never happen
"Griffith didn't do anything wrong" 😭😭
@@epicjayjaysw8708all of you so funny in the comments I’m glad cuz some people really think Griffith did nothing wrong
This duel really said a lot about Guts and Griffith. Guts is selfless and merciful. Griffith is self-centered and doesn't value friendship at all.
Everything is property to him. He obsessive
@@Pitbulljor sexist bisexual***
@@Pitbulljor Guts wasnt "property" for him, read the manga, he says Guts was the only person that made him forget about his dream and next panel we see in Griffith's mind Gutses face towering over the castle. The 1997 adaptation works more towards making Griffith a pure evil control freak while manga and the recent Golden age adaptation did it better in painting a more complex character than just a sociopath... Even the godhand said the Sacrifices wouldnt mean anything if they werent a part of his "humanity" i think the fact that Guts and Casca escaped means a part of his humanity is left, plus the demon child, those 2 things probably signed him a death warrant already. Now how it will play out who knows, some people think that Guts will go berserk and activate a Behelit, some people say Rickert will play a role in it, some say Casca might do something ehh who knows, i hope the team ends it properly, i dont even care if its rushed i just want to see Griffith laid to rest
@@deadlyfemboy4289 you right about that. The manga made Griffith look innocent to a degree but with some twisted logic. I love how the story doesn’t necessarily have the normal antagonists and protagonist easily identifiable. If you looked at the manga or anime, to a degree, you would think Guts would have went rogue or something like that and have Griffith be the hero in some way in all aspects because his angel-like features other than the Egg of the King until the story gets deeper. Guts having demon-like or possessed-like art in the manga would make you think that as well which would make it hard for you to understand that he the “main protagonist” of the story. It’s a lot of twist and turns in the story but if you don’t pay attention to the clues, it’s easy to miss.

100% agree. I think this goes for 1997 in general. The lack of budget allowed it to focus much more on the character’s thoughts and interactions and it paid off so well.
I'm glad Griffith got back up and said GREAT DUAL OLD FRIEND. TILL OUR PATHS CROSS AGAIN...

THE PAIN ON GRIFFITH’S FACE. The speech in Episode 10 doomed everyone.
Yes it really did
@@Pitbulljor Sad thing is, I’m not even sure if Griffith meant what he said during said speech.
It’s conflicting. He’s speaking to the Princess so we know he’s trying to gain her favor, but his reaction to losing to Guts and watching him leave tells us differently.
Honestly, in a way, I think Griffith considered his band to be his friends
@@baseballlifer1250 he thought of guts as his friend. I'm sure he would've gotten over the fact guts beat him if guts didn't leave either. I reckon guts leaving is what crushed him not losing the duel itself
@@Pitbulljor he would of let Guts lead the band and followed him, because he saw his motives as superior to his.. at that point having Guts under his command meant more to him than his own goals did and thats what he came to understand i think
@@javilo2797 Thats an awesome theory, unfortunately we'll never truly know. I mean its possible maybe Miura would've never 100% clarified or made it ambivalent anyway if he was still with us and writing. The guy who took over apparently discussed the ending, but I wonder if we'll ever get those subtle details and nuances.
Guts: "Would you settle for a smile and a fond farewell"?
Griffith:........................ "Sure , safe travels. Okay folks he's gone let's pack it up, got some Gundam voice acting to prepare for".😊
The Neutral Ending.
What makes this moment so impactful, is all the build-up leading to it.
Before this, Guts had been getting stronger at a fast rate, overcame impossible odds, defeated countless foes and achieved feats that either compared with Griffith's own or even exceeded them.
And yet, whenever somebody tried to compare the two, they can't help but dismiss Guts' accomplishments, as Griffith has this overwhelming worship and presense surrounding him. He is a man who fully believes he can achieve his own dream, charm his way into high society with ease and overcome any obstacle in his way. All of the Hawks are people who once had dreams of their own. Some failed (like Corkus) and some were still working towards their own dreams, but all of them felt content to ride along Griffith's glory, conquest and sheer ambition.
So when he loses against Guts, this gilded image of him that others saw in him, is instantly shattered. Some (like Corkus) are in so denial about it that they can't accept it. Least of all Griffith, who for the first time in his life has met someone he can't have/keep. Someone he cannot control.
In a way, Guts easily cutting his sword in half felt like a symbolic demasculation/castration of Griffith's confidence in himself, but also his manhood. Did he sneak up to princess private quarters shortly after this to regain some of his lost self-esteem/manhood? Or was he so in shock and denial about the situation, that he foolishly had an ill-thought plan in his mind (which is so unlike of someone as patient and calculated as him) that sleeping with the princess would lead to an instant marriage and claim to the throne, to fill the empty void of loss he felt after Guts left his side?
Regardless of his motives and what he was thinking, THIS SCENE, is IMO the most important, critical moment in the entire Golden Age saga. It sets up the inevitable that has yet to come, and reveals the true state of minds of not just Griffith and Guts, but also Casca's true feelings regarding both of them, but also the overreliance of hero worship the rest of the Hawks have had for Griffith all this time.
RIP Miura. You truly were a master of storytelling.
This is how
The final duel will end, Guts needs to be at peace, no joy, no fear, especially no hate.. Then and only then will he be able to strike at Femto
Well, now that the continued story will never be canon we as fans can choose our own individual ending that we believe in.
@@curtismaizeLol wat. No the continued story is canon
@@bigbillthehaywood8762 Yeah but it doesn't count. Just like the new matrix movie doesn't count as canon either.
@@curtismaizeHow are you gonna agree that it's canon but then say it doesn't count, are you stupid?
@@curtismaizewhy isn’t it considered canon? From my understanding the original author entrusted his plans for the rest of the story to another.
This will forever remain as one of the greatest scenes in the history of literature,
Griffith actually wanted to parry a sword like that.
In his defense, it worked last time
Judeau's words...
We needed him to survive the Eclipse. Heaven knows how much Guts would have needed him. As a friend, as a moral compass.
For an alpha dog like Griffith to lose his status like that in front of everyone...thats a shattered ego you wouldn't ever be able to put back together
Everything Gutts says after the duel is such heavy foreshadowing. And the duel is a perfect mirror of Griffith's and Gutts' first encounter with each other. This scene is the work of a genius.
Rest in peace. One year today

I love how every group in the scene gets their own perspective, it gives so much to how crucial and impactful this event is. I feel as if everyone in this scene is battling some sort of feeling, except guts. Griffith battling his pursuit of his dream and his deep care for guts, and casca her own feelings toward him. Really beautiful scene.
The one time guts could beat Griffith and kill him, he SPARES Him!!!! Then is purely driven by wanting the bastard dead. God I love this writing.
I mean the only time Guts did want to kill Griffith was after the betrayal
Leaving Guts speech was a nice touch.
My favorite scene of the show. Even might be my favorite part of the entire manga. This scene is what got me me into berserk. The ending where guts is speaking to Griffith, it’s like he is speaking directly at the viewer. Giving you hope and saying how much life is ahead of you. Unfortunately most of us become irrational, like Griffith. Truly beautiful.
Yes I totally agree

Guts Tried So Hard To Control His Sword Than Hitting Griffith's Sword
It took more strength from Guts to stop his sword than it was to break Griffith's.
“You just stumbled over a stone in the road”
And then fell over and hit his head very hard, changing his life forever.
How did Griffith plan on parrying a zweihander on steroids with his little dueling saber, we will never know
He was planning on deflecting the blow. His blade would then slide into Guts shoulder, disarming him. He was aware how strong Guts would be, his sword could only handle one blow.
Then Griffith starts to think that if it goes off even just a little it could kill Guts, but decides to gamble it anyway.
This is absolutely one of the best duals in media ever
Man what a nice duel between 2 friends, I'm sure this wont have an ever lasting impact
I love how casca has changed so much that she wishes to see him lose just so guts still can be with them.
I can't stress how important it is for a human being to learn how to take loss and defeat well. Otherwise.......
This was better than I remembered. Dub is amazing too
Y'know, if Guts simply talked more here, it probably would've changed the entirety of Berserk.
Like, man. It's clear that he eventuallys intends/hopes/wants to return after his journey of self-discovery, but nobody else knew that! If only he said... _something_ to reassure them, for his leaving to not be so jarring....
It ain't solely Guts's fault. But it ain't just Griffith's either. The blame falls on both of them. Even if Guts had been with the Band of the Hawk for years, he can't reasonably expect people to just understand him if he never communicates. Hells, Griffith doesn't even know that Guts ever overheard that conversation about friends and equals. If Guts just mentioned/referenced that _at all...._ Griffith might have accepted the idea that Guts _needed_ to leave, if only for a while.
Griffith has his issues, by the way. I want to make that explicit. I'm not on the side of "Griffith did nothing wrong" - no, Griffith definitely did. But... he isn't completely and utterly responsible for all blame. Had Griffith heen a more constant individual, he would've been able to better respect that Guts wanted to leave and forge his own path. He would've - perhaps should've - kept to the integrity of what he'd said to the princess before, that any true friend to him must be his equal, must have ambitions and a path of their own. But it's as Casca said - Griffith grew to depend upon him. He never realized how much he valued Guts being around as a confidant, until Guts won that duel.
Here’s the thing, if both of them had just sheathed there swords and Griffith asked this one simple question “Why do you wish to leave so badly, my friend.” All of them would be alive
@@sirus976 Ehh... I'm not sure whether they would've gone without the sword fight. But it definitely could've had a different context if they had just talked it out first.
Had Griffith asked why, then yea - perhaps that duel would've been more light-hearted, as a test of sorts. As if to ask, "Are you ready to leave, Guts?" But I don't think the duel was completely avoidable.
@@khajiitimanus7432 I believe the duel would have been a friend on friend with smiles, no intent to kill or injure just see who wins. Which would have COMPLETELY changed everything.
A few things.
1. Guts didn't expect Griffith to be a massive hypocrite. In the end, it turned out Griffith wanted to rule more than anything. Guts assumed that Griffith applied his philosophy about ambition consistently. Griffith didn't care about "respecting Guts as an equal," he just wanted his kingdom.
2. Guts consoling Griffith for losing would make him look pathetic in front of his men. It wouldn't help as much as you think it would.
3. Corkus is actually correct here; the Band of the Hawk won every battle even before Guts joined. It would be irrational to assume that Griffith would be that upset over Guts leaving, even if he was their best warrior. Guts also understood this.
4. The war was over. It was a completely reasonable time to leave the Band and try to find his own way in life. It wasn't like he left when he was needed most (well, until the ambush happens -- but that is entirely Griffith's fault).
5. Causality -- fate -- literally worked against Griffith from the start. As Void said, he had the qualities of a demon from childhood. When that is revealed right before the sacrifice, it becomes clear that no small change like that would have made a difference. He was merely in denial about how ruthless he was and how much he was willing to sacrifice to achieve his dream (it was everything). To put it another way they planned for Guts and Griffith to cross paths and for Griffith to allow his emotions to cloud his judgment.
@@sirus976 Griffith was in too far deep at that point. He was so close to being able to marry the princess and becoming heir to the throne that he could practically taste it. I seriously doubt he would have let Guts leave even if he realized that his words were what inspired Guts to leave.
I wish some rich person would say "hey I'm gonna buy the rights of Berserk" and continue the story after this season with this artstyle! :(
Its cold as it snows but the tingles are irreplaceable and kung muscles being worked out like that like an indian is all the regular excerise for long life i need - willy 0
people watch this and still try and tell me Griffith didn't want his cheeks clapped by guts
The Memorial Edition has him thinking about Guts as he nails the princess, can't remember if that was in the manga or not. I'd say he definitely had some romantic attraction towards Guts, but it was not healthy, the guy's a user and possessive.
And thus the Dreamslayer earns its name
I hope this is how the fight with femto goes griffith getting his ass beat and guts leaving like a G
That makes both of us
No Gutz, he won't walk again, he'll soar.
Waiter approaches you with a bill.
You: Would you settle for a smile and a fond farewell?
When all you care about is getting what you want, and your use to always getting it, the moment Griffeth lost what he had no power to keep... his emotions destroyed him, then the world followed.
My favorite part of this scene that is the way Griffith's blade falls into the snow. Griffith's thematic color if white, and Guts' is black. Guts held back, but the duel was still decided by the first strike. Griffith lost, pierced by his own blade. He lost because he let his pride and jealousy control him.
I like that it's a mirror of their first duel. In that duel, Guts was hot-headed, pissed off by Griffith's attitude, and Griffith was confident and completely focused. In this one, Griffith is smoldering with anger at Guts' insolence, and Guts is at peace; he made up his mind months ago after eavesdropping Griffith's conversation with the princess at the ball.
Griffith thought he can parry against Guts sword, especially when he wasn't fighting as much in the front lines. That's like bringing a nerf toy gun into a 4 bore riffle battle
I love how even while inner monologuing he was worried he'd accidently kill him. just to relapse and go back to his old way
Good thing Griffith is coolheaded and knows that his band will always be there for him! If he took this loss poorly who knows what could've happened!
Guts had the most character development of any anime person I know
From what i know about this Griffith guy, he knows how to rally the troops better than anybody, don’t expect anything different here
Griffith: 🧮
Guts: big metal stick go bink
Hope all is well brother. Just wanted you to know you arent forgotten man! All the best in whatever path you chose.
I wonder if the story would change if Griffith knew that Guts wanted to leave because he wanted to be an equal friend to him. After all, Griffith is still a motivation for why Guts decided to leave and grow on his own.
I think Dr.pepper said it best "what's the worst that can happen"
*Step aside, Costco*
I feel like if guts wouldve actually told his final lines to gtiffith himself, rather than just think it, he actually couldve been alright.
That would have made him look even more pathetic in front of his men.
New to berserk and just finished reading this. Hopefully nothing bad happens and griffith doesn't hold a grudge
Why couldn't we have gotten a season 2.....
Ikr
Not enough material was out at the time
To be fair the wait time between arc would take too long to make, especially considering the story isn’t done and now that the original author is dead it makes things more complicated.
Damit casca just go with guts
I wish she did 😭
That probably wouldn't have changed anything in the end.
Imagine if Guts accidentally killed his friend there, that would be so horrible. They would never meet again and have fun like they do in the full story and Guts would be mortified about killing his friend too
Guts should’ve left and never look back
Every man is a sucker for that special someone. When Guts heard Casca, was in trouble, he came running back.
Causality would've led him back to them regardless sadly
After that guts joined back and helped him nothing bad after that
Guts: your goal is far beyond this.
He's partially correct in that statement
If only guts had been a little bit more reckless, and accidentally stabbed Griffith
