The MDA Labor Day Telethon was an enchanting yearly variety show that ran for half a century. Hosted for many years by Jerry Lewis, the telethon featured top stars from the world of music, comedy, and Broadway and was like no other show on earth.

Love his voice, grew up with the beach movies. His son is the drummer & very good looking just like him. Won tickets to see him in concert, went just last night in Melbourne Florida, he's in his 80's & he looked, sounded & danced across that stage like a 20 yrs old, it was amazing he can still move like that. Few of today's popular singer have the voice to sing live, with minimal instrumental support, like this. If he hits a clinker, there are no sound effects or synthesized notes to hide the error. He and his friend, Bobby Rydell, both had genuine talent. Their sound defined the authenticity of music before the British invasion, the invention of the fuzz box, and the onslaught of electric guitars. This song is obviously a put on, consistent with the movie, but Avalon performed it straight in the movie and sang it very well then and here.
Very late,but I also would compare him to Bobby Darin as well for his comedic chops. Very funny like him.

I heard Frankie Valli was offered either this song or singing the tittle song Grease and he thought Beauty School Dropout and the way it would be performed in the movie with all the white and the heavenly scene was beneath him, so he did the title song Grease instead, I think he made the wrong decision.
