That is interesting. What I have seen so far, these are very popular in the US. It would be great to see tests with it. What it comes to water coming out of the exhaust it has happened to my (now sold) Kärcher shop vac. My Dad loaned it and vacuumed chairs what had been pressure washed. He overfilled it and some water got to the motor :D
‘VacLab: Rescue Edition.’ Ugh - vacuum neglect/abuse. Makes the heart sink a bit. Well done, once again your passion/dedication is commendable. Any DIY tips for shop vac filters with internal pressure retention (failure) clips? Craftsman use to have a screw on filter finger retention holder. Lost mine. Now new filters have the plastic pressure clip which failed all the time. Ideas? Thanks.
One the one hand, seeing vacuums get abused and junked like this is kinda sad for enthusiasts like you and me. But on the other hand, we should be glad that this happens mostly to cheapos and not the good stuff (obvious exceptions being your DC35 and my Windsor-Sebo).
You didn’t unplug it when working on it. Quite dangerous but I’m glad nothing went wrong. Also once you figure out that it’s not functioning in a dangerous manner, you should use the switch on the machine to turn it off and on instead of continuing to use the power strip switch. Using the power strip switch can further wear out a seemingly already worn out vacuum.
You can rebuild the bearings all you have to do is just punch the metal rod out with a hammer and then use the metal rod to just pop out the bearings will be in a plastic caps and then you need to use a screwdriver to force them out of the plastic cap and by the way they will probably be metal covers
I used to think these were just garbage, but the newer BOL machines make these seem like quality machines
I most definitely WAS a Bissell fan, but then I realized how easy it was to forget the filters

Do you your full testing
I think it wants you to keep it
Thats actually a pretty healthy motor
Do some tests with the other bissell vaccums you have
Can you do testing on a older ridgid shop vac
If you want to donate one to the lab for testing sure, otherwise no.
What brand latex gloves
Looks like someone used as a carpet shampooer or water extractor.

Yeah I'm that person who says even though you're not fond of these (for valid reasons) you should restore this and test with the other Bissells
