    Oh. My. God. I found this video again. I used to watch this all the time when I was a kid but could never remember the name of it when I tried searching for it. And now (incidentally after watching another video from my childhood about vacuums) it gets recommended to me. Finally I get to see it again. I don't care what anybody says about this video, I love it, and im so glad I found it once more after all these years.

    I remember watching this video, I was about 4 years old at my grandparents house in their computer, just watching vacuum videos because I was obsessed. And then I remember I saw this video and I thought it was scary, but I still finished the video. Now here I am, almost 16, and I just randomly woke up, went on RUclips, and decided to try to find this video. I tried searching many times before but I could never find it. It almost had me thinking the video taken down. Then once I saw the mini dirt devil I knew this was the video, I clicked on it and there it was. Thank you for this little short vid, because it was defiantly one that fulfilled my childhood vacuum obsession

    • @TimFegan

    Thanks for the question: We've collected them over the years. The canister was replaced by the upright. Everyone needs a dirt devil for the steps. The shop vac is for outdoor and really messy projects like deck building, concrete wall construction, etc. And you have to have a broom for sidewalks. I actually did not realize we had that many till someone suggested the project of using vacuums in a video.

    That little red "Rosie" reminds me of one of the most recent posts in RUclips history, not only about vacuums, but about anything that anyone could have posted. The video, itself, does not have much RUclips history, yet, but the man who posted it speaks very highly of his little red 1992 Dirt Devil machine. He says that the little red machine still does him good, even today, this many years later! Nobody ever advertises that level of quality in cleaning machines, anymore. These days, it's all about big suction, no loss of suction, big amperage, no need to replace bags, and many other things that are so overrated. Bear with me if I sound harsh, but I wish that department stores sell more of those such quality machines as the above said little red Dirt Devil and even older vacs that still do people good, these days. I have had enough with these throwaway quality machines that they still make, these days! That above said man is a vacuum expert with the skills, necessary to refurbish a little red Dirt Devil and have it running like a champ again and now, it sounds like it has been through a time machine after having just left the factory that was there in 1992. Now, you have to go to a small vacuum shop if you want a true quality machine like that and they are WAY overpriced! Oh well. You only get what you pay for, right?
    When I see that little red "Rosie," I think of a machine that does more than just small spill clean-ups. Not only could that thing go in tight areas, where the big "Stanley" would not fit without its tools, that little red "Rosie" could go in there, equipped with a brush roll that had BEATER BARS! That thing could agitate the carpet, beat the carpet, loosen the dirt in the carpet, clean the carpet, lift the carpet, and groom the carpet, where the larger machines will not fit. I can just imagine seeing that little red thing go the necessary meters it takes to go from the first floor to the second floor, then double that amount if your house had three floors. That big "Stanley" would have been a hassle to use in those areas without its tools and its brush roll would have been too large. Those large brush rolls are only for large areas. Also, that robo vac is way overrated if you think it can replace all those machines, since it is not designed to clean carpets, but only solid floors. Imagine if you can shrink the size of a 1982 Hoover Convertible, shorter than two feet tall, with a six inch brush roll, and a small two amp motor. Given the same exact designs, that thing would begin to excell where that little red "Rosie" excells...in small carpeted areas, where those large machines do not fit and it would agitate and groom the carpet. Try to beat that, robo vac.

    • @TimFegan
      @TimFegan  2 года назад +1

      Well, David, I'm with you on this. Quality products are difficult to find for anything. Why do you think I have so many vacuums? With Rosie, I definitely overworked it and I did not have the skills to fix it. I also overworked a shopvac and it crapped out as well. I bought a new one because I do lots of wood work. But "Candice" just keeps going. We were going to trash it because we could not find bags anywhere, and suddenly we found a place to buy bags for it. So, a new lease on life for Candice. "Stanley's" gears for the roller gave out, so I have stopped using that. I bought a Dyson, to replace Stanley, but now I'm kind of pissed at the Dyson because the attachment hose is breaking/splitting. That is probably the lowest tech, easiest piece that has been around for decades, and yet Dyson went cheap on that part - very disappointing. Not sure if I'm going to replace the hose, or buy something different. Or maybe just go back to Candice for all my cleaning even though I'm not fan of dragging a canister around. Thanks for watching and your thoughts.

    My wife & I controlled the vacs. It's a matter of framing the shot. You'll notice the very tops of the vacs/broom are never shown unless they're still. For Big 5 rolling in, we placed the vac at the ending position, then gently pulled the cord to move it off camera. In editing, we ran the footage backward, giving the appearance of it rolling in by itself. If want to see one of our goofs, pause the video at 4:43 & step through frame by frame. You'll see a hand at the very top for a few frames.

    Wow just came back to this video and I'm glad to find you planned filming for yesterday! When will it be live? :P
    I agree the Dyson hose splitting is quite annoying, luckily they're VERY easy to take apart, the hose unclips from the ball, they usually break when the hose is overstretched. Do you still like the Dyson overall?
    I'm wondering if you ever heard of Kirby vacuums, those are built to last

    • @TimFegan
      @TimFegan  2 года назад +1

      I've heard of Kirby. Couple of quirks with the Dyson: I'm only 5'10", but still the vac handle is a little short for me; its loud, of course; I actually don't like that the handle is the hose, because moving the vac when the hose is out is uncomfortable; it gets very hot, but I think lots do that. I wish there was a way to put the brush on low for hard floors, instead of just off, because the fine dust is not picked up. I surely don't want to use the hose and an attachment because it is short and I have to bend to use it, which is uncomfortable. It does great on carpet and I like the way it moves.

    I'm just curious I have a few questions if you don't mind:
    1) What made you get a Dyson?
    2) What model is it?
    3) What do you think of it compared to your other vacuums?
    4) Would you consider doing a 2020 version of this video? this managed to get a lot of views and since it's an older video, older videos don't get as many views as videos that be uploaded in recent days
    I really look forward to hearing your responses :D

    • @TimFegan
      @TimFegan  3 года назад +3

      Thanks for the questions.
      1) I bought a Dyson mostly because I like innovative people. He changed vacuums forever.
      2) I have the 'animal' version sold by Costco a could years back.
      3) I like it because of the maneuverability and how the wand is integrated into the handle. On the other hand, grabbing the handle and lifting it when the wand it out is annoying. I tend to grab the back of the handle for a vertical grip instead of the front of the handle when I want to lift it. I wish the wand would have collapsed to below that part of the handle so that the handle would remain intact when using the wand. I wish it also had a slow brush mode instead of just on/off. The reason is that on hardwood floors, a little brushing would pick up the fine dust. Otherwise, I have to put on the floor brush at the end of the wand, but the wand is too short for me (I'm only 5'10") and I have to lean over to get it flat on the floor which is uncomfortable after a while. My biggest annoyance with any vacuum I currently have is the cord, so if I buy a new one it will be with a battery.
      4) Heck yeah. I have written a new script. It has a little more action and some special effects. But, out of curiosity, I'm thinking of creating a series named "The Making of Sweeping Changes 2", in which I'll explain screenplay writing, pre-production/planning, production/filming, using green screen and editing. Then after all that, show the new version. Would that sort of thing interest you?
      In any case, thanks for watching.

    • @parwaz7861
      @parwaz7861 3 года назад

      Tim Gallagher Awesome! I agree with your points, most of the market also seems to be ditching cords in favour for cordless now and the cordless Dyson v10/11 would make a proper handy machine
      I also would absolutely love to see the behind the scenes and extra shots etc! If it has vacuums, people will watch especially kids, I am looking forward to it! When are you planning on filming the 2020 version?

    • @TimFegan
      @TimFegan  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching again and again and again 🙂. Stanley had some trouble and the rotator brush stopped. I could not find the right piece to fix it, and so I would have to take it to a shop, but the shop cost was about 1/2 the cost of a new machine. So, I bought a Dyson, which has since been replaced as well. In general, the Eureka did a good job, but its a heavy machine and did not fit under some of our furniture.
