- I make a Sheepshank Knot by bending Rebar, Rebar Metal Art Project. It is 12 mm (1/2" inch) Rebar
This Sheepshank knot will be used in a future Industrial Style project. I love the look of industrial-style furniture and rebar with knots fits right in with the look I like.
I hope you enjoy my video of making this Sheepshank knot, it was a lot of fun to make.
The main tools used were an LPG Burner, an angle grinder, and a bench vise.

Always use all the correct safety gear, and use your tools safely, I am not a good role model for this.
Hope you found something of use in my video or at least found it entertaining.

You must have the most extensive collection of hand made steel knots on the planet.
I do have a few here, I find them very relaxing and interesting to make, I enjoy making them. Thank you for your comment Adna.
Yeees!New video!Fantastic,amazing job!Bending cold rebar-not easy...
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
I never would have thought that was possible , looks like one of the harder ones you have done .
Thank you very much, yes it was one of the more difficult knots I have done. Thank you for your comment.
Awesome work
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
I probably have all the same tools as you, so I thought I'd try one of these projects. I have all the tools, but now I also have a greater respect for your work.
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment, as with everything, sometimes it is just the amount of time/years we spend doing things that makes the difference in the outcome, everything we do improves us just that little bit. I wish you the best for your future projects.
Nice Gav. Looks unreal👍
Thank you very much Brad
God bless you, your hand`s and your family. All goodness to you, with love from Free Ukraine!
Thank you very much, I am happy that you liked it. Keep safe, Greetings from Australia.
Bowline, Sheet Bend, Clove Hitch, and now the Sheepshank. All knots I learned as a kid nearly 50 years ago. 👍
Thank you very much. Yes knots are things I learned too many years ago.
Nice one Gavin , good to see some heat been used now all you need is a forge and anvil . :)

A whole beautiful art
Thank you very much.
Nice one Gavin. The sheepshank is a hard knot to recreate in 1/2" rebar, as usual you made it look easy. I really enjoy your videos, keep them coming. 🍻
Thank you very much Steve, I appreciate your comment.
It’s amazing how you get it to look like a piece of rope. You are the man of steel just without the tights. Thanks again for sharing
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment Brad.
Nice work Gavin!

Excelente como siempre.
Muchas gracias, agradezco tu comentario.
Increible!
Thank you very much.
08:05 - Gavin gets me every time. Clear blue sky and suddenly I am laughing really hard! "I am not a good role model for this!"
Hahaha, thank you Baudaud, it did stop most of the (You will get hurt doing it that way/ that is unsafe/ you are wearing the wrong safety gear) comments. Most people are just trying to be helpful.
@@GavinClarkdiy I understand the point of your disclaimer. It is your presentation, randomly injected into work documentation, which tickles me! Plus you do some awesome work. I bought some rebar last year with the intention of braiding it to make a sturdy coat-rack, and while looking at how to bend and braid steel I stumbled over your channel. I am especially impressed with your jigless techniques.
I think most of the people making those safety remarks are just plain dicks. A few months ago I posted a comment to another fabricating channel, asking how/why it was safe to grab the subject with the welding ground attached and the wire in contact, but that presenter is not English-fluent so they took my question as criticism. I just wanted to know what I was missing, because I had the impression that the whole work-piece would be energized with 2-3 amps. So there is obviously a lot of that kind of thing going on.
@@baudgaud Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. I don't mind the comments trying to save me from myself, but they do take up time and I try to answer every comment I get. I also don't want anyone to do something that may get them hurt, by copying me doing something the "wrong" way. So that just might make them think about safety, I know my tools very well and some people are just starting to use tools. I appreciate your input, keep safe I wish you the best for your projects.
@@GavinClarkdiy I have several facial scars. Not a single one came from copying a RUclips procedure! :-D
@@baudgaud All my scars were my fault, and like you not from watching youtube.
Bela arte, lindo parabéns..!!!
Muito obrigado, fico feliz que tenha gostado.
I couldn't do that with a piece of rope, much less rebar..lol.. take care my friend and God Bless...
Hahaha, Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Hi Gavin,
Another cool knot! Look forward to seeing the industrial piece of art that you use it on. Also, love the disclaimer. I think you're a good role model because no one else makes knots from rebar like this on youtube (at least I haven't seen any). Thanks for the video!

Gavin, I asked you to do this so long ago, wow, brilliant, stunning really.
Well done mate, did not think it possibe, you make it look like eating a cream bun.
Thank you very much David, I did have to get the heat out for this one, I appreciate your lovely comment, I am very happy that you liked it, thanks for the suggestion.
It is too hard to do, but looks so easy in your hand. Great.
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Thank you.

Got to sell these bad boys
Yes there seems to be a market for them. Thanks Rob.
👏👏👏💪💪
Always looks near impossible to me until you make it.
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.

These are getting very complex now, but another great build! What are your thoughts on a rebar ‘Turk’s Head’. The ball like knot used to add weight to the end of a rope for throwing? Would look cool, but think you might need to find a fabricated solution.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. I have the 'Turk’s Head' on my list of ideas, that will be a tough one, one day I will have a play and see how I go. Thank you for your suggestion I appreciate it.
I might mean a ‘monkey’s fist’! But suppose ‘great minds’!
@@yorkshirejoinery2869 I was thinking Monkey fist (I do have both on my list anyway), you are right we are thinking along the same lines.

There's a report that Gavin Clark laces his shoes with rebar.
It's hard to untie them, I don't think it will become a fad. Hahaha I love your comment. Cheers
Amazing work. After seeing this, I wonder if you think you could manage an alpine butterfly loop?
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. To do a alpine butterfly loop would be a pain I think, so I think I will have to say no to that one. I did put it on my list, but I don't think I will do it. Thank you for the idea.
@@GavinClarkdiy I figured it would be really hard to do. The question was mostly in jest. There are a great many knots that would be near or completely impossible in rebar, especially without heat. The knots you have done are amazing though.
@@notahotshot It is nice to get ideas that make you think, how can that be done, Cheers notahotshot.
Nice one again Gavin, by the way, what was the total length of the re-bar that you used for this knot?
Thank you very much Reg, I have just measured it, 160cm (63 inches) (That's what is in the finished knot.)
@@GavinClarkdiy Thanks for taking the time to measure, I would have bet oit was longer than that. Nice work, and I appreciate being able to watch the process.
The rebar was about 250cm (100inches) when I started, and the final knot had 160cm (63 inches) in it, the rest was offcuts. Thanks Reg I am glad you liked it.
