    Funny that, KPop never claimed BTS until they started gaining success and it was undeniable, despite the shade and hate thrown on them by many in that industry. BTS are the ones, who included themselves in that genre, but they also understood they had actually outgrown that KPop label, because they are actually global artists, who have impacted music in so many genres, for so many people and nations. Boracity, is at her best spitting facts as per usual lol 😂😂

      Yes after they kicked army as a "joke" from kpop and started spreading misleading information about the Fandom and bangtan trying to break us but when they didn't succeed and bts made " kpop" bigger they started trying to insert bts in it so they can put their favs in the same category as them. They still hate bts and army but they know bys are the top of the chain so if you want to be relevant you have to drag bts name and army.

      @@neb.9489 literally you will see this whole article about bts and some k groups impact on the music industry or something.. but when you really look at it you'll find that + 50% is just bts doing and the others 50% is just divided between the 50 other artists and the closest to bts has like 10% or something less they make it seem like it's a group project when it not. And the westernized thing 😭😭😭 bts literally only started singing in English in 2020 I've seen groups with English ver songs and albums and no one said anything about it they even started copying bts methods ( releasing songs on Friday, the whole teaser map, trying to attend American shows [ even if they aren't invited they just do some interviews on the red carpet then go away] ) and everyone was supporting them

      While I agree with everything you said, using the phrase "paved the way" is kinda a moot point as of now. Everyone before BTS has "paved the way". BTS didn't improve and develop out of nothing, they also had influences from senior artists. I'm not saying that they didn't achieve something great, they did. But as a korean I think of seniors "paved the way" beforehand in order for BTS to also "pave the way".
      So really, does that phrase have any meaning or weight at this point? I feel like this is a phrase fans like to use to feel....superior (for lack of a better word) or it feeds their own ego.
      Like a lyric from Epik High's (also a group who hugely influenced BTS) song, "I paved the way, for everyone else that's paving the way". There are people who paved the way before bts, and bts is also paving the way. So I guess we can say that everyone is "paving the way". Kind of like how if everyone is special, then no one is truly special because if 'special' applies to everyone, it loses is meaning.

    • @boopyournose5698
      @boopyournose5698 Год назад +13

      He said some truth to that. BTS got where they are because of the synergy of different happenings. Multiple things had to go certain way in order for that to happen. That's why there is no new BTS, even though it's visible how desperate agencies are to make next BTS. And while they all are talented, they needed to be seen and recognized as future stars first, in order to form a group. And all of them had to be different, yet have the same goal in order to keep the group running. Even now when Suga has mentioned many things that they didn't discuss about their past before (like them being asked to move out, but them refusing to and BigHit finding an investor instead of giving up, or him and RM always being at the bottom in trainee reiting, but never being asked to leave), makes one wonder how they kept going and how Bang PD still believed that he was making something huge with these boys. So in a large scale of things, it actually could be just 5% individually and 35% BTS together.

    • @ananyaa6664
      @ananyaa6664 Год назад +14

      From what I understand although they were in the lower position in trainee rating clearly because it involved stuff like dancing that RM and Suga did not initially intend to be part of, BTS's existence was centred around the rap line, particularly RM. The book states how the vocal line thought they wouldn't be able to debut with the rap line which they supposed, would debut early without them. While the success of BTS can be rightfully attributed to all the members, (RM alone could definitely never be able to reach where BTS is today I guess) I think people do tend to oversee RM's contribution to the creation of such a synergy. I have seen many people including older trainees, Bang pd and the members several times repeating the significance of RM's role in creating the atmosphere wherein the members could flourish and grow individually, thereby adding to the synergy of the group. I remember an older trainee talking about how RM encouraged them to be engaged in a healthy competition instead of pulling each other down. Can you imagine the kind of mindset that the 17-18 year old RM has to say things like these to other trainees. Jungkook also happened to like a recent tiktok clip that said something in the line of how the K-pop industry is carried by RM's shoulders. While that can be considered as an expression of love for RM, I do believe there's some truth in it and it's important that people don't get triggered when these facts are said!

    Artists like BTS, PSY, Epik High and Seo Taiji have no need to brag about their legend status because they're confident in their real achievements and their art. They have no need to compete with each other for who is better, they just work on their music and move on with their life with the impact they have, no matter how big or small. Jay Park just comes across as desperate, it's embarassing to watch. Honestly he'd have a better chance at the success he craves if he just focused on music and whatever else he does and just let the recognition come naturally.
    And at the end of the day, not everyone has to be some legendary superstar (in fact most people aren't, people with such a big impact like BTS are really rare) and that's also okay and not something to be ashamed of.

It’s like….I’m an American black woman in her 30s who grew up on hip hop and last time I checked, BTS makes hip hop and consists of rappers. Are we pretending their work isn’t hip hop just because they’re in a now popular/legendary group? I’m just baffled. Nobody blatantly does that to western artists without sounding ridiculous wtf- Imagine someone in Korea listened to Brockhampton or Odd Future and somebody was like “oh, wait until you hear real American hip hop”. I think those that claim this don't actually know what 'real hip hop' is... they believe it to be some cool trend, full of swag and macho-confidence, when really it's not. They're also trying to fit into a mold that belonged to another's culture, from the way they talk, dress and attitude they're alluding. A glimpse of SMTM and you can see it, I don't think they realise how fake they're being with their own identity crisis. That's why the accusations against BTS in the early days were so rough around this stereotype.
      I don't want to discredit JP, I think he's really trying to make a name for himself, but when he's exaggerating his own accomplishments, that's when it gets corny. On PSick, he claimed in regards to KHH, noone has gone further than him, but nothing good came out of him signing with RocNation... no further opportunities for KHH signed or any features with reknown artists in the west. That whole interaction of him with Hobi gave me the vibe (not ft. Jimin of BTS iykyk 🤣) that he was doing his best trying to outshine Hobi and finally “prove” he was better than him. Cringe. He absolutely failed. And Hobi’s response is kind, humble but absolutely does not give the acknowledgment and approval JP is seeking. I hope JP goes to therapy one day before he falls to kanye levels of delusion.

I am not saying that money is not important. However, if you want to be successful, Authenticity and also uniqueness. Not the cookie cutter type of performers. Plus, majority of performers who had been well snowed and respected had been authentic and have tremendous respect for their work.

    I know that BTS themselves call themselves K-pop they accept it and wear it now with pride I felt that with Suga saying he loved kpop in his documentary Road to D-Day and with RM talking about how "it works" in the context of when everything they do is labeled as k-pop example rap songs on Spotify etc. But I won't deny that it still bothers me in a way because they are legendary artists at this point, they are bigger then that. People in the states, muggles, think bts equals kpop thinking it's all the same thing when if anything bts has gone against the grain when it comes to kpop . And kpop has denied them for so long not wanted to be associated with them but now all the sudden they are riding their coattails. It just doesn't sit right with me. Army knows they are more then that but I wish it was more widely accepted among muggles at this point cuz I'm tired of them thinking it's a package deal. My sister mentioned to family when asked point blank (she looked like she wanted to run and so did I cuz it's an uncomfortable conversation where we are from most the time) "who did you guys see in concert?" she answered "Agust D" and my older sister (muggle) mentions "wait didn't you say he is also Suga from BTS?" they were like "oh wait what? K-pop!?" And I'm thinking to myself if you were at an Agust D concert you would never think that's kpop because it's just not I'm sorry. I just find it a bit ironic that bts is the face of K-pop in the States when they are somewhat the antithesis of k-pop, they actually have creative control in their art. And that because of them now new groups popping up are starting to emulate them more because of their success when before others rejected their success.

    Interesting. Since Yoongi (aka Suga of BTS) using his Agust-D persona had a fabulous showing on year end Billboard charts - especially rap/hip-hop, one can say that BTS paved the way again. He also did it without disrespect to others in USA rap/hip-hop. He laid down his experiences - personal & Korean as a new dish on the table. He brought in new fans & got critical praise for his work. He smashed down doors for new listeners & others to have the same ability to succeed as him.
    Sadly, he took away Jay Park's self brag. By putting in the work & being true and authentic to himself. Once again proving why BTS is the elite in music for South Korea.

    Some of my earliest favorites were Big Mama (who became respected professors of music after they retired), Fly to the Sky (after they turned to R &B), Wheesung, Im Jae Bum, Kim Bum Soo, Lee Sora, Lee Sun Hee, and Lee Moonsae. They're good at what they do and don't need to toot their own horn. My dad taught me that truly intelligent people don't go around bragging about how smart they are. We can see that for ourselves. The same holds true for legend status. You don't run around saying "I am Legend." unless your parents actually named you Legend.
    Until very recently I was only vaguely aware of the existence of BTS and the fact that the fanbase is called ARMY. I'd assumed BTS was just another K-pop boyband. Yeah, that idea went out the window real quick once I started going down the rabbit hole. I am seriously impressed by what they've achieved and excited for their future. The overwhelming majority of K-pop strikes me as plastic-y, soulless, interchangeable, flavor-of-the-month ear candy. BTS is on another level. RM's lyrics are "meaty" making me want to suss out the references, the concept of SUGA's world tour is complex (Cf. the article in Weverse Magazine, magazine.weverse.io/article/view?ref=main&lang=en&num=819), and Suchwita is a great series, Hobi established a first at Lollapalooza. Jimin's solo album is so much fun to listen to. Beyond the Story shot up to bestseller status within hours. Let's see what the rest of the year brings.

And to to have the audacity to deny and take out FAKER and put himself there and then on top of that to say that he is the one influencing and impacting k hiphop. When it's been BTS who had travelled to the roots of HIPHOP Literally to learn. And to learn among REAL HIP HOP artist. Be praised and respected by them. BTS RAPLINE is the ONLY k group rappers line that is known worldwide and admired. They worked alongside rappers such as WARREN G, LIL WAYNNE, SNOOP DOGG, JUICE WORLD, J COLE to name a few.
    They are bigger than k hiphop. AND are real HIPHOP. They broke the barrier for themselves a long time ago. They are writers who always stayed true to their roots. They worked and collaborated along side those who they admired when learning. That is called growing and influencing.

    The fact that I have no idea who the fuck Jay Park is proof enough that he ain't shit, and won't even come close to Faker. There is a reason why BTS had a RUN BTS with T1 (Faker's team). I was watching the episode and thinking "damn the pride of South Korea in the same room". My dream is to attend a BTS concert in Korea, and watch a live game of Faker in the LCK. I knew who Faker was befoire even playing league of legends. He is the GOAT of the game, and the biggest player, anbd who made the game what it is today. He is one of elite 4, and no one can change that

    I think, no matter what, BTS's place in that "Elite 4" is solid. He wasn't coming after their slot, but it sounds to me like JP felt like he had to make them smaller somehow (HA!) to make room for himself.🙄His silly distinction of "k-pop" vs "k-hip-hop" is nonsense, because, honestly, has he never heard their discography?
    The idea that Hobi gave his blessing is equally ridiculous... Hobi was his usual extremely diplomatic self in his answer, and acknowledged JP's hard work and his callout of BTS without saying a word about whether JP's name belonged in that list, too.
    IMHO the person who most deserves to be PO'ed at JP's nonsense is Faker, because what JP's essentially saying is, "you and your entire industry aren't as important as I am."
    To which I'd say to him, "Players gon' play. Live a life, man. Good luck."

    This is spot on! Like others, before he was even mentioned I immediately thought of Jay Park. Who is he to talk about inauthenticity when he is a knock off version of the mainstream rappers he emulates? That is not to diminish his talent but I truly believe the success he so desperately wants would be more easier to come by if he himself were to be more authentic.

    love how Jay Park acts like he wasn't a Kpop idol at one point. Bro, basically called himself in-authentic.😂😂😂
    Also, if Jay Park wants to talk about idols who crossed over into the K-hipHop world and had an impact. Then he should mention artists like G-Dragon, CL, & Jessi who also had huge success globally.
