Ford gave me a 2020 Limited for 2 weeks while they fixed a issue with my Escape. Safe to say after those 2 weeks the wife and I have decided we will be getting one by years end. Absolutely amazing vehicle!

I have viewed several of your videos and find them both helpful and entertaining. None of the other reviewers disclose how many sweet treats can fit in the various nooks and crannies of the car. And let's be honest, that is the most important feature. As to the topic at hand, I purchased a 2021 Explorer Hybrid. At first, I was very pleased. The vehicle itself is great and I was liking the full V6 power. But after 3 to 4 days of driving, I discovered some pretty significant issues with rough transitions from a full stop (at a stop sign or traffic light) to acceleration. Some times it felt like the car lurched forward until it caught the gear. I couldn't tell whether it was the transition from electric to gas motor, the transmission not finding the right gear, or some combination. I suspect perhaps some of both. But after a few days of this in what was a brand new car, I threw in the towel and returned to the dealer and traded it back for an Explorer Limited with the standard 4-cylinder base engine. Needless to say, I gave up some money in the deal and learned an expensive lesson. I am not saying the Hybrid version doesn't have potential, but my advice is to very carefully test drive this car and make sure the transitions on acceleration from a dead stop are smooth enough for you and that you are also accustomed to the regenerative braking which feels very different than normal brakes. For some, it may work just fine. It didn't for me whatsoever and going back to the non-Hybrid Limited Explorer was a great relief for me. Perhaps slightly less robust acceleration from the line, but a far smoother riding experience overall and perfectly adequate pick-up in my view. Anyhow, good luck to all in your car search and thanks again to Raiti's for the great reviews. If I were to do this again, I would try and arrange an overnight test drive to fully put this new technology through its paces and assure its right for you.

Ford said it was due to the exhaust leaking in from the exhaust tailpipe. No idea how. And a friend of mine still has not had his explorer fixed because of that exact issue, and it is stated on the recall paperwork, that exhaust gases from the tailpipe can leak in. Again, no idea how when the vehicle is in forward momentum.

Ford has a ton of tough competition in this segment. Personally, I'd rather have a Telluride, Palisade, Highlander, Pilot, or even an Atlas. And the new Chevy Traverse that's coming out later this year actually looks pretty good, too. I do not like the grille and headlights of the new Explorer. The previous generation actually looked a lot better.

A mild hybrid. When the 3.3L V6 shuts down, so does the air conditioner compressor.
Not important to a automotive engineer living in Michigan. Kind of important to those of us living in a hot climate.
A clutch take off to the transmission means that you get the reliability of the standard gas engine minus the reliability of the clutch system.
Nice salesmanship. That's the approach. Instead of good engineering, let the marketing and sales guys pick up the slack.

Joe you didn’t zonk the fake exhaust pipes??? What gives? Never liked the big blue ford sign in the front of their vehicles. However this explorer doesn’t look too shabby. $55k is not too bad for a 3 row hybrid SUV. Don’t let those Florida drivers cut you off Joe. 😀
