I have the 2017 Explorer XLT. Exactly the same as the 19 except for a slightly different looking front bumper. The one he is reviewing is the XLT appearance package. The regular 2019 XLT, all the blacked out pieces are chrome. I'm disappointed that they dumped the V6 for the 2020 and up XLT. The V6 is only on the higher trims.
I like the old one more, too much chrome on the xlt. And I can’t believe they asked Honda to give them the passport back lights! Nice review as always Raiti!
Being the new one went back to RWD and a much needed updated center stack that pretty much puts the old out to pasture. I think the 2.3 eco also makes sense with the 10 speed. Interior is better but the outgoing looks better on the outside. A lot better. What's up with that?
Cool just saw your testing of the 2020 xlt with the 2.3 ecoboost engine. I just worry that the 2.3 ecoboost engine isn't big enough and will have issues with the turbo and won't last as long as the v6 would?
I have a 2018 in the same color combo as your 2020. I actually like the looks of it and some of the interior features better than the 2020. My 2018 has the 2.3L Ecoboost. Rear wheel drive isn't the greatest thing in the snowy hills where I live. The front wheel bias will be much easier to live with.
I feel like the front head lights resemble the the last generation Taurus before it was cancelled and not in a good way. I’ll keep my 18’ explorer sport until the redesign this mess.

The main problem with the 2020 is that all trim levels are around 10k overpriced. But that's typical Ford so when they drop the price people think they're getting a deal. Also the 2.3 engine still has carbon issues as far as I know.
JB 360 Some of the 1st gen Ecoboosts had the issue with carbon buildup but by the time the 2.3 was introduced for the 2015 model year it had been addressed. Also has a lot to do with driving habits. 2.3s haven’t had any widespread issues, in fact you won’t find too many unhappy EB customers these days, until they come up with something new and unfamiliar. Now that being said.. It’ll be interesting to see how the new hybrid models hold up over time. 497 horsepower is a lot for a Lincoln so if it makes 120,000 miles without no major issues I’d be thoroughly impressed and slightly surprised. Not many 500hp SUVs can make it that long without something breaking.
I was impatiently waiting to get my hands on a 2020 Explorer ST. I had first dibs at my local Ford dealership for their first ST order. After weighing the pro's and con's as well as doing the math, I decided to trade in my 2016 Explorer XLT for a 2019 Explorer Sport. Although my XLT was very nicely equipped, I opted for the Sport to give me a few more bells and whistles plus the extra HP that I didn't have in the XLT. Add to that a lower sticker price for the Sport, plus incentives and a low APR's financing through Ford. Its a win all around. My eyes wanted all the new tech of the 2020, but my pockets and common sense made the better decision IMO... By the way, this (Explorer Sport) is my 5th Explorer since 2001, my 11th Ford vehicle since 1991 and my 3rd new Ford vehicle since 2015. Make no mistake that I'm a Ford guy! LOL

Love Walker Ford! Great people to work with and fair pricing. See Danny in the Sales Dept. and Denise who will help you customize your Explorer. I always had them do my service and the prices were fair, in fact, the oil changes were less expensive here than anywhere. Great service crew!
I prefer the 2020 tbh if I had to choose from the two. The 2019 looks a bit more dated imo. Overall, I just don't like Ford as a brand but I would buy one however before I buy a Chevy 😂
The standard ecoboost and rwd and awd sells it for me im getting one in a coupke weeks wish I could afford the st or limited but the xlt will do fine a black or blue or white
Great review! Going to look at a 2020 XLT My only issue with my last Ford's were tiny seats for 120 pound women and wind noise from the drivers window and too stiff suspension. You say a quiet ride?
Working on getting the 2019 sport.... rented it for a month didn't want to return it. Great vehicle 2020 just doesn't do it for me. Wish I could put the upgrades in the 2019 lol
2019 is a Sport appearance pkg. That's why the wheels are charcoal gray and the mirrors are painted...etc the 19 XLT without SAP is pretty much the same has the 2020 in terms of appearance
Ford’s 2020 Explorer is about 200 lbs lighter than its predecessor that's up to 36 percent torsionally stiffer, it has lower noise and vibration levels. The panel that separates the cabin from the engine compartment is dimpled keeping the interior quiet and vibration-free, It also benefits from a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs. I have owned many vehicles from a few powerful RWD, 1 FWD, and most of all some of the best AWD rides ever but never a Ford. This ALL NEW 2020 Ford Explorer is on my very short list of what rides to buy next BUT I can't find any AWD System Facts until then I'm looking at everything but not buying anything until I know all the Facts. btw: Ford’s previous Explorer had exhaust getting sucked into the cabin issues so that's the REAL reason they point down now.
Just remember all three of those that you list are FWD with less HP and gears. This drive train is more in line with Mercedes's and BMW with a boosted motor and multi gear trans. More importantly, this is RWD which will make it handle loads better. Normally I would agree with you but I have to give credit to Ford by how they really improved the interior/center stack/gauges and using the 2.3 eco/10 speed using an inline RWD setup. As for that pathfinder its a pathetic POS. Not only FWD but a horrible CVT trans on top of it.
I owned the 2019 for a year and Ford replaced it under the lemon law with a 2020, which is so much nicer in my opinion. How’s he not going to mention you can fit a whole sheet of plywood in the 2020.
2020 center stack is killing me. It's like an eyesore. Ok maybe that's a little bit harsh but it triggers me. I'm a big fan of the explorer and I felt let down with the infotainment design. The way the 2019 Ram 1500 is setup with that big 12" screen for infotainment is the way to go imo!
I would personally prefer springs (similar to what Silverado hood had) maybe hidden behind some cover to make it look better. Gas struts weak out in like 4-7 years
@@ginsure So does the make i have , something was designed stronger than everybody else had, i loved it, next gen has the part more lightweight they design it smaller and now it's worse than everybody else has, lol, it's like they designed some things and making decisions during a lunch break
2019 is also based off the Taurus/500/Freestyle/Taurus X/ Flex platform. 2020 is all new and more truck like as the Explorer originally was since it first came out! I dont know about you but I'd prefer an SUV that is more truck than car like!
The 2019 looks a little better the improved version of the 2020 will most likely come on the 2021,2022 I made the mistake of running out and getting my 2016 mustang GT and a year and a half later they revamped the 5.0 480hp mine has 435hp and of course the lights are different with other subtle changes I'm looking into getting a new car/SUV next winter right now I'm looking at #1 Chevy Blazer #2 Grand Cherokee #3 Explorer for the Ford loyalty cash offer #4 Dodge Durango I like the ST version of the explorer but it's way more than what I want to spend trying to keep it under $40k

You are not comparing apples to apples. Your have a 2018 XLT Sport appearance package vs the reg 2020 XLT. You have not mentioned the trimester level. 200A 201A or 202A.
Great review . Where in Florida is this video done ? Do you have a video comparing the 2020 Explorer to the 2021? I would love to see a comparison of 2021 of the Explorer to the Traverse and Telliride . Keep up the great work
I love my 2018 looks just like 2019 xlt with police interceptor upgraded modifications it's got luxury and hauls ass
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective!
2020 may not look as good. But it is still better in every other way
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this one!
Gotta respect this mans work ethic!
That is so awesome fo you to say!
Love Walker Ford! Great people to work with and fair pricing. See Danny in the Sales Dept. and Denise who will help you customize your Explorer. I always had them do my service and the prices were fair, in fact, the oil changes were less expensive here than anywhere. Great service crew!
If I know my explorer im almost sure the 2019 one is a sport trim and not xlt. I could be wrong
Why don't you put a price tag on both.. I mean at the end you could've just tell us how much each cost🤷♀️
I am so glad that you like this one Don!
Great review!
Going to look at a 2020 XLT
My only issue with my last Ford's were tiny seats for 120 pound women and
wind noise from the drivers window and too stiff suspension.
You say a quiet ride?
Thanks Jim for sharing your thoughts!
2020 XLT comes with the acoustic windshield. All 2020 Explorers have LED lighting and Ford Copilot 360 Standard!
Nice Review!!! Not all explorers have the explorer badge on the hood though..I put a bug shield on mine and it enhances the look!!!
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
In video the 2019 looks better but I saw a new 2020 in person and it’s so much better looking
Can you do a 2019 Ford Escape SEL please?
I will get that for you!
Um , NOOOOOO
Excellent job explaining both vehicles. Well done
Hey Joe! In the 2019 Explorer , that 3rd cup holder they were thinking of Big Tom for his can of Red Bull, ooh ooh 💪. Great job guys 😎👍.
LMAO! You crack me up David!
The fuel tank position was changed in/on the 2020 Model🎉
Working on getting the 2019 sport.... rented it for a month didn't want to return it. Great vehicle 2020 just doesn't do it for me. Wish I could put the upgrades in the 2019 lol
2019 is a Sport appearance pkg. That's why the wheels are charcoal gray and the mirrors are painted...etc the 19 XLT without SAP is pretty much the same has the 2020 in terms of appearance
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
@@RaitisRides thanks for the great videos. As a salesman for a Ford dealer in Puerto Rico I really enjoy how you present the cars and all the info
Thanks for all that great info.
Good reveiw but both suv are not compatible in quality to highlanderor pathfinderor pilot

HiPlains1 This is something a lot of Explorer haters miss when making their assessments.
I thought all models of the 2019 had the 4x4 management system on the center console (that is where that tiny extra cup holder is).
I owned the 2019 for a year and Ford replaced it under the lemon law with a 2020, which is so much nicer in my opinion. How’s he not going to mention you can fit a whole sheet of plywood in the 2020.
I am so sorry to hear about that Anthony! I appreciate you sharing that!
xlt has fog lights?
The Sport does.
2020 XLT has fog lights with a package - every trim has LED lighting interior and exterior
Oh hell yes! 8:10 the 3.5 still sounds MUCH better than the 2020, that one sounds like an economy car 😄
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The 2020 handles way better!
@@RaitisRides Oh yes that's where it shines
@@giofromtexas2679 AGREED!
I feel your pain!
No gas struts for the hood??? WTF, all Hyundais have it
I totally agree!
I would personally prefer springs (similar to what Silverado hood had) maybe hidden behind some cover to make it look better. Gas struts weak out in like 4-7 years
yea I don't understand why they did that. Ford does a nice job redesigning their vehicles but still tends to skimp on to many areas.
That is such an excellent point!
Awesome review of both. Thanks!
I am so glad that I can bring them to you David. Thank you for the compliment.
2019 hands down
Is it possible to get a 3 seat in the 2nd row on the 2020?
yeah. Is it possible?
Yes bench is possible
YYAAASSS. NEW INTRODUCTION!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I am glad you liked it Ben! I thought I would go short and swee!
Raiti's Rides Yes!! Right on the spot!! ❤️
AWESOME!
Do they still have internal water pump?
I believe so.
