I thoroughly enjoy all of Raiti’s reviews and has helped immensely in my hunt for a replacement for my 2015 Ford Explorer Limited. I have seen many of the 2020 Explorers in the showroom and just cannot pull the trigger on one of these for one primary and incredibly bothersome factor. For a vehicle in this price range, the design of the front seats should be so much better. I’ve not seen any reviews where this is mentioned but where the side bolsters meet the hard plastic back and sides, there are large gaps where you can pull it apart and literally see foam, wire harnesses and airbag. This is such a poor design from the folks at Ford. I hope there is a redesign for mid-year to eliminate this gap. Such a superior seat design on the Kia Telluride in comparison. Aside from this seat issue, I do really like the new Explorer but just know that as the seats become aged, these gals will become more noticeable. Ford engineers, please fix this ASAP!

I'm here because I saw a ford explorer emergency vehicle set up that I thought looked really sharp. It must be a 19 model because it didn't have that large screen in it - they had a floor mounted ipad of some sort in it and what looked to be a normal sized touch screen in the dash. So... What did you decide on? Any idea why Honda Odyssey does not make an AWD like Toyota Sienna? Also, how does Subaru factor in? I saw a Subaru Ascend on the road other day - first time I ever saw it. I have an 04 Odyssey and like to upgrade to newer.

Thanks for you review. I am confused when you say the Wheels are 20". The Tires are 21" and the wheels are 22" across. Your wheels are slightly different than the Explorer Platinum wheels I have which I find interesting. I also think your towing pounds are off some. I thought it was 5600 pounds. I agree with you on the hood pop up rod. That rod gets very hot when the engine has been used. I like the quad exhaust and not having to deal with the dust or dirt that come out. Some of us like to keep our cars clean without having to clean the rear area every so many times than necessary. The real reason the quad exhaust is designed the way it is,is to keep the exhaust fumes from entering the car through the tail gate. I also don't mind the flat black tire wheel moldings. I think if they were glossy they would show too much in rings that you get with glossy plastic .

The Explorer might be one of the top designs on the market today. Regardless of cost. It retains a "boxy enough" rear so that you still have "enough" space by the rear door. That SHOULD BE why any one buys a SUV today...knowing you're going to be carrying items once in a while too big for any sedan trunk. Most SUV's today have sloped the rear window too far FWD. To the point where their SUV's look like hatchbacks.
The Explorer also has a 11" NAV screen (portrait orientation). Something that SHOULD BE in most SUV's today. Funny enough I think it was RAM's F1500 pick-up trucks the first to have a huge NAV screen..theirs being 12"!! Maybe he largest on ANY vehicle. LUX SUV's from Audi, Benz, Jaguar, BMW still have small 8" screens if that. We are in the tech age. Most of us will not be taking our SUV's off-road. Let's be real here. :)
The Platinum is smart looking too. Outside and in. Only other SUV I like is the expensive 2021 Range Roger Sport (SVR or Autobiography)...which still has a sloped rear window but not too much. Their Discovery...even less...but it doesn't h ave Parking Assist"...which IS valuable today as we WILL find ourselves in tight parking spaces from time to time and SUV's all have not the best visibility to the sides.. though many have 360 Cameras. You will still want to look out via the side mirrors.
The Toronto police drive Explorer's. :) Must be for a good reason. So if it's good enough for the police...though they do have a "police version"...less luxuries. More beefed up in case of collisions. Forget the name of their model. But it is an Explorer. I

you mention in the video that the platinum version is quiet, as it has additional sound dampening fts. my question is "compared to what?". you also drove the ST, so, at the end of the day, is the platinum quieter than the ST? thank you. great videos.

car and driver tested the platinum to go from 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and the at in 5.2 which is wild for a 3 row suv like the durango srt is faster but its more expensive than both the platinum or the st and in my opinion has a cheaper interior

I have a 2017 or 18 explorer platinum and I love that Truck we’re at the time I didn’t like the payment I was making on the lease so I traded in on something else but I’m really considering going back to one of those it was really comfortable and it performed wonderful but I think back then they had the 3.5 twin turbo and it was really fast

Another great review. I used your channel a few months back to help me narrow down models. Ended up with the explorer st, though I agree with your zonks. The back up camera and that one spot on the interior trim. The exhaust is actually nice though if you ever leave your car running with the lift gate up. No exhaust gets into the cabin. Also, as a ford there are always going to be rebates/discounts. Got my St for over 10k off msrp, making it less than a highlander platinum or Kia telluride (and much more fun to drive imo). Keep up the great reviews!

For the top of the line the wheel openings and side mirrors should be painted to match the vehicle. That brown on the seats,🤮! Info tablet looks like an afterthought 🤮
Ford is more concerned about some soot on the tailpipes than what matters more. No thanks Ford. Try again next year. Joe, your review is the only thing I liked! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

If you're willing to drop $60K plus for an Explorer why not opt for a Lincoln Aviator Reserve trim for about $5k more? More powerful, far better appointed, and with a tow rating of 6700 lbs compared to the measly 5600 lbs of the Explorer.

This is exactly what I want to do if my budget allows at end of year. Reserve 1 rear wheel drive, 201A and Luxury package and possibly the optional wheels. Comes in a little below $65k. The other option is the Explorer ST where I know I can get more discounts.

And not sure if you noticed this but that back compartment in the floor can be reversed along with the side compartments. So carpet on one side, and hard plastic on the other so if you're hauling a filthy dog or bags of mulch you won't muck up the carpeting. I really like this trim level and am thinking of buying one in the near future. Thanks for the great review.

towing should be 5,600lbs unless this one specifically is derated (the standard 2.3 tows 5.3k and the hybrid tows 5k) At least they finally put the engine in the right way.
