Hi everyone! Let me know if you have any questions (or fun applications) about the skin modifier in the comments below! :)
No offence here. I would highly suggest you remove your dog sample once you start your tutorial. It's a bit distracting.
@Yasu Leone Oh don't worry - the dog isn't going ANYWHERE :)
Hello, I am new with Blender. I have used the skin modifier to create a body and head shape that I am satisfied with and now I would like to add a face and hair and clothes, do you have any tutorial that explain how to do this once using the skin modifier ? When I'm going into sculpting mode, I can't barely affect my object. Thank you !
Can you sculp this model?
Plz show us how to sculp this model, sculpting is not working in this case
i have an issue where I cant see/select or edit any vertices when i apply my skin modifier. any clue what i did haha?
One of the most accessible chanel for average skilled blender users. From time to time I enjoy learning new things here aside from my usual use of blender. Exploring new ideas and new tools is all the interest of blender.
While some of the authors (okay, most) of Blender tutorials move the cursor around the screen so fast that it is nearly impossible to follow, you make it very clear just what it is that you are doing by using that yellow/green “dot” that allows your viewers to more easily follow what you are doing. Furthermore, most of the time, you linger over the object or vertex or whatever that you intend to select and this also makes it easier for your viewers to understand what you are doing. THAT WAS GREAT.

Some tutorials have background music. Background music in a tutorial is every bit as enjoyable as listing to the music on hold when you call your cable TV provider. You didn't have background music. THAT WAS GREAT.

While some of the authors of Blender tutorials have a speaking style that sounds very much like they are practicing to get a minimum wage job as an announcer at a strip club. You on the other hand, use a good conversational tone, set at a reasonable speed and set at a reasonable volume AND you obviously know enough about audio recording to keep a very good signal to noise ratio. THAT WAS GREAT.

You did a great job. If you stick to this formula, I will be a devoted fan. You are great. Thanks.
Best skin modifier explanation i've seen so far. Thanks
Excellent tut/demo.
This is the best creation tool in Blender.
Awesome information, Thank you! I....love your channel!!!
Oh thank you, now I understand how the skin modifier works. This was a very useful tutorial. going to favorite this for later in case I forget.
I am following this tutorial with Blender 4.0, this is just amazing technic. Skin modifier isn't quite valid on terrain with up-down slope. Road surface makes left or right slope on sloped hill area with skin modifier, so I'd rather stick to shrinkwrap onto terrain-extrude curve to z-direction-solidify 3 combos to make valid road surface. Other than that, it looks gold, especially the sidewalk part. Thank you so much.
Great, concise tutorial, thanks so much!
Fantastic tutorial as always! Thank you
Very useful tutorial, lots of thanks!
Thank you so much! Why ctrl+A and not alt+S? I have to give you a view everytime I realise the alt+S doesn't work haha
Thanks a lot! Verey useful and clear explanations :)
Thanks again for another goodie brother! 👏👏🏆👏👏
Thank you! Helps me a lot!
thank you, very helpful
explained well , thank you
Thank you so much.
Awesome tutorial.. very useful!
Glad it was helpful!
this can be used for so much, Mirror and u can draw in cloths or armor then remesh and sculpt! in like 3 seconds! thanks bro!
I have been using it to create window pane designs by just tracing them as lines first, I also used to to create the folding wire stock on a Vz scorpion. its a really nice tool for just wires and piping.
Interesting - how does it work for window panes?
@@TheCGEssentials I just traced a fancy green house window design and bumped it out to wires. When I finish the render Ill send you a picture.
thanks man 👍🏼
No problem 👍
currently using chatgpt and learning more modifiers like this one,
i think this can be useful for making belts
Nice tutorial as always:)
Thanks!
Thanks to your videos I'm learning blenders much faster.
Happy to help!
How do I cut down on the excessive loops that the modifier creates without messing with the topology?
very thanks 🙂
THX bro !
It is very useful for creating trees!
How did you get vertices around the mesh? I can only see vertices around the skin modifier. Please help.
thank you for you explain about skin modifier
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks
thanks
yeah it's a great tool once working with characters
It's a lot of fun :)
i have used it once!
Hi, how can I see the vertexes black dots after I have applied the skin modifier to the mesh? I'm no able to see them. Thanks for any support.
Can it generate hollow shapes like tunnels?
thanks
thankies
thanks ^^
... extra shapes ad on? Make sure you are in the vertex select mode, but how?? You create the words?
why when the skin modifier is applied there are no vertices as in the example of a low poly person?
Awesome
So much fun :)
I don't get why its not just 's' or 'alt-s' to scale a vert. I keep going to curves and using 'alt-s' which works fine but then you have to combine different curves together. And I have to go back to one of these vids to figure out the geo vert scaling keybind.
hi is there a way to create automatic an armature for an existing model -- thx for u work for videos
Never tried it, but try this add-on - docs.blender.org/manual/en/2.81/addons/rigging/rigify.html
Please help! When I add Skin modifier it gives some random HUGE mesh that is not similar to the mesh I created using vertices. And it does nothing when I change X, Y or Z axis. I have applied the scale but still nothing.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Would you, at some point, be able to convert it to normal geometry with editable edges and surfaces?
Yes. You can apply all the modifiers in the modifier tab, or you can simply press Ctrl+A >> Visual geometry to mesh.
Thank you sir
Welcome!
I really like the animated dog. Have you already made a video how you animated it?
Animated dog?
@@TheCGEssentials The dog who is shown in the beginning of every video. Sorry, the question wasn't specifically about the video
Hi I have an issue when i apply skin modifier I can’t see vertex ,how I can bring it?
How you apply skin modifier????
i have a question i converted an object into mesh and when i go to the sculpting tool it just movies the shape/ polygons and not allowing me to sculpt on the object at all.
I could be wrong but I think you have to either apply the modifier or turn it into an actual mesh before you able to actually sculpt onto it.
Hey Justin, Bryan E here - great topic, will try it. On another topic- I'm trying to lovingly recreate classic music venues from the old days in blender so fans can go "back in time" to visit. I've started to run into some theater ceilings that have big, rounded corners at the tops of the venue. I found I could modify basic "walls" that I setup as regular boxes/ meshes, but the settings were not even enough to look exact. Then I tried archipack and I'm wondering if we can modify archipack made walls/ceilings to include sculpted, rounded curves? I will dump archipack if it's too constrictive for what I'm planning here.
I'm not 100% sure of Archipack's capabilities in this area, but most of the time if you've got super custom curves, you're going to be modeling those manually...
@@TheCGEssentials got it, many venues are simple and will probably be ok for archi. You may have gone over something that will help me in a previous video-so I'm still going through the more recent vids for help. Thanks for everything, I'll @ you anything good I happen to finish.
Interesting
Hey if I press shift+D it doesn't apply the modifiers anymore, am I doing something wrong? Edit: Gotta "Clear Loose" after duplicating the vert.
Don't know - I usually apply the modifiers from the modifiers tab
cntr + a that is what i was looking for thx
Lol - that's a good one :)
Can you sculp this model?
Plz show us how to sculp this model, sculpting is not working in this case
I think you probably need to apply the modifier after you create the skin
ctrl+a ...nice
:)
i have a problem, i don't know how to color the skin after i aply it, and yes i know how to put colors in a mesh. bur the vertecise don't appear in the uv editor
I can't remember, but does it create the object as a curve? You might need to convert it to a mesh instead?
@@TheCGEssentials how
i cant even apply the modifiers... :(( Blender 2.9
I think click on the part and you go Ctrl + A in Object mode and select "Visual Geometry to Mesh" or click the "Object > Convert > Mesh" pull down beside Add in the top left.
Hi, i dont where u from but u have a good tutorial I’m a beginner I only have 2 days that I started hopefully I get good over time but it’s so hard 😅 I would like u give me a little advice for a beginner I will be pleased if u answer I’m already a member thx u so much

Start with beginner tutorials to pick up the basics - I've got a playlist here that might help - ruclips.net/video/x_Evla8aKAQ/видео.html
mind = blown
So, if the skin modifier can already do symmetry on its own, then why most people that use it to make characters combine it with the mirror modifier? 🤔
It is not that kind of symmetry. Skin symmetry is for topology itself, so that it is not unequal on two sides. Mirror actually mirrors half a mesh over another half.
It crashes blender for me.
Very nice tutorial. Check it out.
Thank you!
nice dont tell us what buttons you press very bad tutorial
Skin modifier is WORTHLESS when used for any slightly complex uses that require any tiny bit of accuracy.
Did they break Ctrl+A in Blender 3.4? It doesn't work and crashes Blender
When I press Ctrl+A it does nothing. Skin Resize menu appears in the corner, values change as I drag the mouse, but nothing changes on the screen.
Great tutorial, very useful, thank you!
