    If I was newly homeless I think I would sleep in a graveyard for safety. Of course I have too many family and friends for that. God bless those who don:t. Great video I really like the looks of that cemetery. Having actual employees there probably helps protect the place. Thanks for thinking about their privacy I respect that, your a good man. Keep up the good work. All the best.

    When you initially saw the road/dried creek bed, if you notice, all of the tombstones face that direction, which means at one time it was a road or the tombstones would have faced you and the road that you were walking. I'm surprised that you didn't find steps up to them, from that road, unless they were covered from washout. Great videos! I only got locked in one, once! So, I learned to park within view of it, if the timing was within a few hours of "closing", cause you start walking around and hours go by...LOL

    third part of the series, again a variaty of markers.The big obelisks really stand out, guess the people buried were important to the area , must have been very expensive to put these in the cemetery back in the day.Beautiful Celtic cross with the knots, typical Irish in style.Must be strange to find someone sleeping in the cemetery during the day.Great explore Matt.The building made from te natural stones fits in perfectly, same style as the mausoleum at the entrance.Must take a lot of time to build something like that, craftmanship.Love this roadtrip through indiana ( and surrounding states ??). Beautiful scenery, tranquil, desolate...the other side of the very busy US which a lot of tourists or visitors never get to see.on their 4 week tripin a RV across the US ( from east to west).Thanks for taking us with you on this roadtrip Matt.Looking forward for the next roadtrip.Keep safe.

    The Fowler obelisk is for the Moses Fowler family. Moses Fowler was a prominent Lafayette businessman. For many years has house was a museum. I remember going there several times when I was little. They also held a festival on the ground called the lafiesta.
    If I recall correctly there was another large obelisk in that same Cemetery for a family by the name of Earl. Adams Earl was also a prominent Lafayette businessman. He owned a mansion by the name of Earlhurst. Earlhurst was around until the 1970 is when it burnt down to the ground.
    By the way that little cross has been there for many years. I took a photo of it when I was photographing that cemetery for findagrave.

    Matt, I had a similar experience here in Bloomington. I was in Rose Hill Cemetery where two lanes of the cemetery formed a "T" there was a man sleeping on the ground under the lowest branches of an evergreen tree. The tree has been removed and the gravestones there can be seen now. Another time I went past the cemetery, saw some American flags that had fallen over or were leaning so as to touch the ground. I went in to put the flags upright again on another occasion and found a crack pipe.

    Large one piece monuments, such as the obelisks, only became available for memorial markers after the establishment of railroads to bring such markers from the quarries and craft centers to the burial grounds. There are many pictures of large monuments or pieces of monuments being transported through Barre Vermont on their way to the railroad depot for shipping elsewhere. Once the marker arrived by railroad to the destination, it had to be taken off the railroad car and transported to the graveyard, where again it was an engineering problem to erect it.
    And yet the ancient Egyptians were making, and moving, even larger obelisks thousands of years ago, without the benefit of railroads or power equipment.

    Hi Matt, that definitely would have creeped me out too seeing a random body just lying in the woods of a cemetery like that. I mean what are you supposed to think when you come across that type of situation so close to where loads of people are buried. It's actually a very well maintained place, not too many markers are damaged in the section we saw today. Most cemeteries close at around sundown and obviously throughout the year that time will change so that's probably why there was no times on a sign.Thank you for sharing. x

    Stone building might be a chapel used for funerals. Some southern cemeteries had gazebos to let people get out of the sun or rain.

    Question. Why was that burned out ?
    It's interesting to see that tree cut down and formed into a tree. Good job.

    • @mamiebobb4173
      @mamiebobb4173 5 лет назад +5

      I assume you're talking about the tree? I remember when I was little it was common to burnout a tree stump after a tree came down. It was the most efficient way of getting rid of it. I"m not sure that's what they did here though because they never removed the burnt wood. Maybe it was dead and was struck by lightening. You never know.
