Keighley & Worth Valley Railway | 4079 & 6990 shine at the Spring Steam Gala | 22/3/24

- Today's video features two Great Western stalwarts on unfamiliar, former Midland territory, at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (KWVR)'s annual Spring Steam Gala, with a "the best goes west" theme! Those were GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 4079 'Pendennis Castle' and GWR Hall Class 4-6-0 6990 'Witherslack Hall', as well as an accompanying home fleet of locomotives, these being:
- LMS 5XP Jubilee Class 4-6-0 45596 ‘Bahamas’
- LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 41241
- L&YR Class 25 0-6-0 52044
- BR Standard Class 4MT 4-6-0 75078
- LNWR Coal Tank 0-6-2T 1054
- Taff Vale Railway Class 02 0-6-2T 85
- BR Standard Class 2MT 78022
With all this on show at such a fantastic railway, it was bound to be a fantastic couple of days, full of variety, double headers and lots of noise!
The footage was filmed over Thursday and Friday. I set out from my local at 7:34 and headed north via Warrington Bank Quay to Leeds where I met some friends @LiamsLocos and @blackcountrysteamvideos8021 with whom I was staying and filming during my time at the West Yorkshire railway. During the Thursday we stayed on the Keighley Bank area mostly, moving between all the available locations for 52044, 85, 1054, 78022, 6990 and 4079. After an evening in Haworth for some food, the next evening the three of us ventured back out Haworth way firstly to the shed and then Bridghouse Beck for 6990 & 1054 and 52044 & 41241. After that we went down to the Haworth Café and to the Mytholmes area for a good portion of the early afternoon. After that I took a walk down to the Damems area to meet @danielstrainsukofficial9133 and the 4 of us spent the rest of the evening together filming before ending our day with a bit to eat in Keighley. Some of the highlights include 52044 leaving Keighley, 4079 on Keighley Bank, 52044 & 41241 leaving Haworth, 75078 & 45596 and 6990 & 4079 on Mytholmes Viaduct.
Thanks to all who made this possible, including the volunteers at the KWVR and the crew and locomotives. Thanks also to my mates who kept me company and allowed me to stay with with them! I hope you enjoy as I did.

What a superb video! High quality, unusual vantage points and a soundtrack which only needed those superb locos. What a varied collection! I will certainly be visiting the K and WV this summer thanks to you - and I havent train spotted for over 60 years! Thank you for the memories and more importantly the motivation to revisit.

Let's hope you can create a video like this, when you're out on your own. It's nice to have company sometimes, but we all need our own space.
I'd be more than happy to direct you to some of my latest videos for which I've been out alone. When I go out for steam locomotives I often do it also so that I can meet with mates and I'm sure most viewers aren't too fussed about what goes on behind the camera, as I don't compromise on quality.
