I remember being on 'Donny' station when magnificent, steam glories like this stormed through not at 25mph but at full speed, firing up our adrenalin glands as if we too had consumed anthracite coal for breakfast. When an A4 'Pacific' like 'Sir Nigel Gresley', 'Dominion of Canada' or 'Klipspringer' etc etc was distantly sighted there would be faint cries getting progressively louder of 'streek', streek' and we would abandon our shared cup of tea in the buffet to dash out onto the platform as one of the finest creations of man swept through like some enraged dragon nearly sucking us of our feet. 'Trainspotting' doesn't come anywhere near to describing the experience. What a heritage!
I remember Donny well, every Saturday the 9.12 Scunthorpe to Doncaster cheap day return 2/11d that's 15p decimal. When the shout was "streak" everyone paid attention. '62 was the best year for me, a good mix of green diesels including Deltics and steam although by then even the once well kept Kings Cross Pacific's were pretty scruffy and scrapping fast. Every few weeks I had saved a bit of extra pocket money to go onwards to the likes of Leeds, York, Manchester via Woodhead. Met some great lads, never had any bother by bullies or perverts. Halcyon days but then girls came along, bye bye Ian Allen combined volume for Christmas and adulthood.
Absolutely gorgeous! The rake of carriages suits the locomotive well and whoever has done the lining needs a raise. The locomotive looks incredible. Regards, Dan
Absolutely correct, mate. Fabulous looking in B.R. blue. As a kid, me n my dad saw it as a B.R. engine, round the back of Dundee Tay Bridge shed. For the only time in that 2 day coach tour of Scottish sheds, I left my camera on the bus. After all, there was nothing going to be there. I've regretted that tired decision ever since! 🙄
I've heard several people on this comments section comparing the whistle to an NSW Class 38 - must bear quite the similarity! And as for leaving the camera on the bus, what a shame! Hopefully you'll have the chance to put things right as she does more railtours this year lol. I'm glad you both enjoyed the footage, thanks for watching and commenting! Regards, Dan
Thank you very much! Haha maybe you'll finally have your chance all these years later lol. I'm hoping to see lots of her, she's performed faultlessly so far. Regards, Dan
Welcome back indeed! Yes I was rather flummoxed at the 57 in BR Black but a diesel friend of mine says he's a fan of it so I guess it's all good to diesel lovers! Regards, Dan
British steam locomotives are so much more attractive than other nations'! If memory serves, I spotted 'Ocean Swell', 'Pearl Diver', 'Bahram' and 'Trimbush' way back when, but not 'Blue Peter' (or the other 35)
Haha that's for sure! It's certainly an incredible testament to the CME's of the Big Four for creating locomotives that not only looked fantastic but also worked like clockwork at high speeds with heavy loads. Seeing the A2s at work in their heyday must have been such a sight, thanks for sharing the memories! Regards, Dan
I have to say when I saw it in Kings Cross I thought they'd done an amazing job on it. The lining and colours just look incredible and suit the loco down to the ground! Regards, Dan
Thank you very much, that must have been lovely to see! In all honesty I don't know exactly the reason other than how the GWR used different whistle tones to communicate with signallers, but it's a fairly common feature on LNER pacifics! Regards, Dan
I remember watching the kids programme "Blue Peter" when they adopted 532 Blue Peter. John Bowles and Peter Purges looked SO excited! Val Singleton was a bit more sensible! 😉
Oh! another memory - 'Donny' being a train town, there was the 'Plant' where locos were built and the 'Sheds' where they were repaired. We were expert fence climbers! We also used to trainspot from St Jimmy's Bridge or from the scrapyard alongside it sitting in the turret of one of the WW2 Sherman tanks consigned there. Once found a grenade in a tank's debris and took it home. Dad went white as a sheet because it was a live one and possibly up to 20 years old.
Thank you very much! The LNER (the company that built 60532) had a system whereby classes were named by wheel configuration and then given a number. For example, A classes were 4-6-2 (Pacific) and these locomotives were the 2nd type built by Arthur Peppercorn so were called A2. B classes were 4-6-0, explaining the B1 and B17 classes. LNER Pacifics don't always have two whistles, but some do! The A4s were the first to carry chime whistles, and the two whistle format was rolled out to some other Pacifics. The whistle type used often helped crews communicate with signallers. Regards, Dan
It isn't quite the same whistle, similar though. This one is similar to the ones fitted to NSW Class 38s in Australia, although to my knowledge it's authentic, having been fitted shortly after the locomotive's completion in 1949. Regards, Dan
Agree with Michael on this one, LNER locos are generally quieter but it drowned out the people on the platform and you could feel she was properly powering. As for it being clickbait, powering isn't dishonest, it's called marketing and I have to do it for the video to reach people. In my view she was storming through pretty nicely. Regards, Dan
@@crunchynutsteamfilms5043 rubbish. Storming would be doing 50+MPH through the station. This is just accelerating. And you just openly admit to it being clickbait to get attention. Still amazing how many people don't seem to understand that you can hold a 'smart' phone in landscape form to video and or photograph something like a steam locomotive. I'v never seen a telly or computer were the screen in portrait format,,,,
Haha I think portrait is mostly done by people filming for RUclips shorts or people that aren't aiming for best quality lol. Landscape is generally best for filming trains. Regards, Dan

Interesting to see the different colour berween the chimney exhausts! The speed through Newark was exceptional!

Stunning, question why do the A type classes of steam locos have a normal whistle, and one positioned at the front as well?
Thank you very much! The LNER (the company that built 60532) had a system whereby classes were named by wheel configuration and then given a number.
