  • A quick video explaining dropper spoons, hanger weights, and pencil rigs for fishing deep water for perch. These lures are designed to drop down into deep water fast while still enabling a more delicate or finesse presentation. These deep water lures are popular on North Dakota’s Devils Lake and Wisconsin’s Madison Chain but work well whenever targeting perch in water deeper than 25 feet.

What a well done video, Jason. You and your team are so good at putting out these targeted subject videos that are jam packed with great information and released at the perfect time. They're helpful, efficient, and incredibly well done. Thank you, Jason! This one is so useful to me, as I'm already planning on doing a trial of sorts with depth releasing some perch using a descending device and recording the results with my underwater camera. Seeing your rigs, it will be perfect for me, I'm just going to make the leader and release wire swappable.

The "Hali" lure actually began in the 1980s and its name then was "Pilke."
Shuck's Bait & Tackle (Chuck Shuck "Charles") at Milford, Iowa (East and West Okoboji Lakes) may have been one of the first places to sell the "Pilke" in the early '80s.
Chuck Shuck may have been the guy who first made that lure. That was a hot lure, during those times.

Yes there were some chain spoons coming out of Iowa. I think Rapala had an early design as well and believe the chain design originated in Europe.
