This might be a hot take but I actually enjoy watching games with romo announcing, his voice may not be the best for announcing but I love how he calls plays with a qb mindset like saying if a defense will blitz or if the offense is going to run for example.

As someone who studies the game obsessively, having a commentator that's straight analytical and less fluff would be amazing, like you said letting Brady actually criticize players. It's better than listening to Collinsworth just making the same noise over and over again and bringing up Mahomes in a game that has nothing to do with him. So far though I actually like Brady's commentating, like in the Buccaneers game I heard a few quiet moments where you hear him say "You got him" one of them being right before the Evans TD, makes it interesting hearing the greatest QB making reads from the booth.

This was a phenomenal video to pop up in my recommended. I am a lifelong diehard pats fan and you nearly mirror my own internal thoughts on TB12 as a commentator. The support he’s getting on air has been great; it’s what they’re telling him off air in my opinion. When Tom stutters I don’t necessarily believe it’s out of nervousness. I’d say that fox has likely “encouraged” him on what to say in the form of guardrails. You make a great point when you say at his price point there is no budget left for training. I think he’s stuttering because he is being put into a position where he has to talk in an unnatural flow/cadence and simply can’t come up with the words he knows fox wants him to say in time.
I also big time agree that he should be doing more attacking of the teams he is watching. TB12 is known for breaking down defences. Let him get on air and explain everything that the defence is doing wrong, and then he can explain exactly where the offence is missing out on capitalizing off the defence’s mistakes. I think the people would like it more than this AI commentator fox seems to have him pigeonholed into being .
Again, this was a really well made video, I really enjoyed it.

2:34 hey that's an interesting and philosophical comment. and accurate. i may be going overboard reading into a simple comment, but i too use cosmological metaphors for describing elements of our mentally constructed world. it all fits. everything has a weight/mass, not just physically but conceptually in our minds. the higher the weight, the higher the meaning/gravity. the higher the meaning, the stronger the influence/pull it has on us. i don't hear many speak in those terms.

Romo wasn’t the best QB but he’s damn good at almost everything he tries: football, golf, basketball, speaking. Brady is a savant and a brand. I believe his personal brand and Fox’s interests are misaligned. He sells himself as a pretty generic dude and if Fox realizes that he needs to be polarizing to succeed, I’m not sure the Brady brand and Brady the announcer can coexist.

It's gonna take a year and review during the offseason for him to hit his stride, but one of my favorite things about Brady that I want to see more is when he doesn't sugar coat things. I.E. in that week 2 Saints vs Cowboys broadcast, him being asked "if he would keep throwing to a receiver that made a mistake (Jalen Brooks losing his footing and causing an interception)", then saying "No, can't trust him." instead of some sugar coated "well you know I'll still give him his chances we're a team and..." crap. I love the idea of getting the actual, legitimate thought process from him even if it does put players down.

I'm by no means a Brady fan but i actually like him calling games. IMO you have to either have 1 of two types commentating - 1) super charismatic, fun, funny, or 2) knows what the hell they're talking about and able to give actually good analysis based on extensive experience. Sure he's a bit flat, but he checks that second one. When i'm watching a game i want things broken down, not dumbed down. i dont always know what's going on in terms of formations and intricacies. Again, as much as he annoys me he didnt get where he's at without being really good at teaching his team and breaking things down so people can process them

Then it dawned on me, when Fox bought the rights to the NFC it was viewed as over paying since the AFC got about $375 million for a 5 year contract. What's interesting is, if you watch him break down plays ANYWHERE out of the broadcasting booth, it's a goddam masterclass. He just needs to take that stuff into the booth.
