    Whenever ironing silk, my granmothers, always put a slightly damp pure cotton sheet on top of the silk item, and then ironed the cotton sheet with the silk below it. The heat and humidity from the cotton sheet that was being ironed, straighten the creases of the silk item 🎉

    Dolly didi, I am from Bangladesh. My mom gets 100 of Rajshahi silk and mysore silks. She gave me those sarees. And I cherish those like a wealth. Never iron, only sunbath them twice a year. And keep those in cotton bags.

    Beautifully explained . You are so right . My grandmother never gave her saris for washing or ironing . A broad based tumbler was the way to go ! The quality of silk and pure silver saris were normal . Now neither is generally authentic.
    I love your wardrobes and the gesture to give away .
    I however am a bit sad that there is so much plastic in the wrapping. Mulmul cloth was used to keep the saris protected from dust and moisture .
    I would be shocked if the gen z appreciates the saris of old . Now it’s all super bling and worn just once . 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Highly appreciated... Thank you for this very informative video.
    My observation for such videos where they teach to iron "silk saree" is that they never use pure silk saree, we can easily make out that that is an art silk saree. But those with pure silk saree do jot understand this and end up running a precious pure silk saree.

    Please suggest about dry cleaning of Silk Saree. I observed every time my new saree goes for dryclean it looses it original feel. But if I ask the dry cleaner i do not get satisfactory answer. How frequently dry cleaning is needed, is there an alternative. Request your guidance. Its been 20 years i am facing this.

    • @Riddhijoshi9
      @Riddhijoshi9 Год назад +3

      First of all do not wash or dry clean silk or zari saree after you wear it once just sun dry them inside out and all the sweat smell will go. Secondly, if in case there is some stain on the saree don’t wash the whole saree just remove the stain with shampoo with water but mind you just on stain. Frequently washing or dry cleaning sarees will ruin the texture as well as the lustre of the saree

    Thank you mam for this video. There are saree drapers who take online classes at minimal fees to teach this method for the new or fresher makeupartist for quick bridal makeover during her big day. Especially for maharastrian brides where the wedding muhurat is in the morning and there is no time for smooth drapes.
    I request you to please make a video on how to keep these preparation ready before draping in your way.
    Also how to store sarees after wear. How to fold them and do we need to change the fold and precautions to take while storing. Bcz some keep napthalin balls in the storage but the saree carries it smell every where.
    Thank you.. Await you reply 🙏

    I hand wash my silks (when theymust be washed) in my washing machine using an organic gentle shampoo with a rinse where I add 1/4 cup of white vinegar. They come out beautifully. And undamaged.
    Like another poster, I would love to learn more about proper storage. Most I hang in the closet, but one I roll because I fear hanging will destroy its unusual woven texture.

    Yes true. People are using hair straightener to iron pallu part of sarees. They put so many safety pins also. I have seen in many videos. But true those might get cut as the thread is so delicate. And more of those way wearing doesn't look any flowy at all, moreover they look like some uniform of a airhostess. Because I have only seen them or ladies in hotel management wearing such neatly pleated sarees.

    @Dolly Jain Mam, Thank you so much for making this video. It pains my heart the way saree drapers treat the silk sarees by not only by ironing but also by using hair strainghtners over it. The list of ill treatment does not end here. My mother in law has beautiful silk sarees collection, however she always gave them for drycleaning. I am not sure what the dry cleaner treated the saree with but those sarees are crisp (not soft). I took her beautiful reception saree to make a dress for my daughter and the moment i put it in the water to test strengeth of fabric, there was such a bad chemical smell and the saree tore like a paper. All her precious sarees has always been drycleaned and they all will probably meet the same fate. Kindly make a video on upkeep, cleaning, storage of silk sarees.
