  • tomhess.net/Guitar In this video, I show you how to sound melodic while shredding on guitar.
Playing guitar solos with melodic shredding may seem very hard to do, but it’s actually quite simple. Reason why is: you don’t need to do all that much “shredding” during your guitar solo to sound great. Much of the fire comes from the notes you end your lead guitar licks on. When you end your lead guitar licks with wide and thick guitar vibrato, plus combine it with short bursts of shred guitar passages, you can’t help but sound melodic while shredding.
You can use these melodic shredding ideas when soloing over faster lead guitar backing tracks and slower backing tracks with the same effect.
Watch this guitar lesson video and see how I transformed my guitar students’ playing to make him sound melodic while shredding on guitar, right in front of your eyes.
Then start using these ideas to play melodic shred guitar solos and impress just about anyone who hears you play.

    Great stuff, Tom Hess!
I never would have thought to be melodic... AND "shreddy" in this way, but I can definitely see how it's possible now.
    Thanks for sharing!

This is a great musical device, well worth putting some time into applying to my playing The progression you're playing over has a lot to do with how "melodic" you can be. I try to really listen to the chord changes and make my note choices take advantage of them.
