    Thank you for demonstrating how to use the 3m encoder. From this tutorial, it seems easy to use! At my job, we use Nuance Clintegrity encoder. And next week, we’ll be training on 3m. I like how precise this system is and detailed. It may just make coding easier for me while at work. Thank you

    My 3m has the reason of visit section and then final diagnosis section my question is do I add the reason as the first listed for final with findings or do the findings go first and omit the reason of visit from the final diagnosis section on 3m I can never find a specific answer to this

    It seems easy but when I type what I think the diagnosis is it’s always different from when I use the manual.

      Hi Stacia, the main term you are using when you look up the code in the book can be the same in 3M, are you trying to exact same main term, such as fracture, infection, pneumonia, etc.?

    • @staciaabrown
      @staciaabrown 5 лет назад

      Yes but then sometimes it goes to sub terms and one word just changes the whole coding

      @@staciaabrown 3M does lead the coder down the path, by asking questions so you do need to be sure that you select the appropriate boxes/answers as you answer each question about the appropriate subterm. Just try to follow the same terminology that you would utilize if you were using the book and hopefully you will get the hang of using 3M, like with coding practice is the key to mastering 3M.

    Hi Jennifer... Do you have any information on how to get the 3M encoder software? Is this a licensure that you paid through 3M or where would I find more information? Ty

    • @JenniferLamecodinginstructor
      @JenniferLamecodinginstructor  4 года назад +1

      Hi Oliver, yes you have to purchase a subscription through 3M or some colleges and universities that teach coding utilize 3M in their courses

      @@JenniferLamecodinginstructor Thanks Jennifer. I am in the process of contracting with 3M - it's just very challenging to get a hold of someone because of COVID19 and they're busy. May I have permission to share your wonderful video with my students/apprentices? This would be very helpful so they can have some type of idea what 3M encoder would be. Great job btw! Keep up the great work.

      Hi Hylian,
      Yes, that is correct. I have another video on my channel explaining the differences/uses for CPT, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS if that helps as well.

    • @JenniferLamecodinginstructor
      @JenniferLamecodinginstructor  4 года назад

      Yes, that is correct hospital inpatient coders use ICD-10-PCS for procedure code assignment and physician office and hospital outpatient use CPT for procedure code assignment. On my channel I have a video that explains the differences in the coding systems.

      @@JenniferLamecodinginstructor Just wanted to comment on the PCS codes only for Hospitals. I am an outpatient hospital coder and we also use the PCS codes . Can you share your thoughts on that if possible?

    • @JenniferLamecodinginstructor
      @JenniferLamecodinginstructor  4 года назад

      @@rosac8168 Hi Carmen, your facility must use these for capturing data for your facility as PCS codes do not impact outpatient reimbursement in any fashion since CPT/HCPCS codes drive APCs. Have you asked the coder supervisor or HIM director why you are capturing these on outpatient accounts?

      @@JenniferLamecodinginstructor I have and yes, that is what she said ( new manager ). We just started on the 3m three months ago and so many things have changed between our old system rules and 3m. In the reason for visit box are you able /allowed to add more than one Diagnosis. Ive noticed this among other coders and Ive yet to get an answer on this from my company. I guess we are all still in the learning process, but would like your thoughts please :) thank you, Ive learned quite a lot of good information

    can you tell me how to find the MUE and MAI listed for a CPT code?

    • @JenniferLamecodinginstructor
      @JenniferLamecodinginstructor  5 лет назад +1

      You bet, the Outpatient editor inside 3M will evaluate all outpatient codes and check for edits. So, if you are coding in the outpatient productfinders 3M will flag any edits for you

    • @jennrosecandleco
      @jennrosecandleco 5 лет назад

      Jennifer Lame thank you! I’m not seeing any edits when I’m in there so I’ll have to play around with it

      @@jennrosecandleco So, to get an edit up your code combination has to warrant an edit to appear. I will post a video example
